  From a friend: Note with this one, the renewal condition.

  Unlike normal live accounts, where you can turn off renewal on the xbox itself, with this one you have to actually ring up and cancel the account before it automatically renews. Keep this in mind when you sign up here.

      You just have to remove your Credit Card Details from your account.. therefore they can't charge your card on the renewal date. So you ought to get your full month..

      This is a HIGHLY Underhanded promotion by MS in my opinion.. A lot of people (like you) who have not read the fine print will get burned and will get angry as a result.
      I have heard that you can remove your details online at xbox.com.au.. Calling them is (by all reports) a long and arduous process.. So try online and look hard before resorting to calling.

        Yeah it all worked out, the guy just removed my "Automatic Renewal"

        I must note to people that dont already have XBL accounts, that there is no need to do this, because you can simply Not agree to a gold membership, and get a month free anyway.

          @AndyLedHead: I was just about to mention that…

          If you sign up for an account, then refuse to purchase gold, you'll be offered one month for free. (That's a $1 saving over this deal, which is like a million/infinity percent off!!!)

          You only get offered the free month, AFTER you've refused to purchase a gold account. (also i think it's 2 months with a new xbox)

  **Read this warning!! **

  I signed up Ozbargain just so that I can warn you guys. Please learn from my painful experience.

  1) As mentioned, the only way to cancel is to ring up.
  2) You cannot CANNOT remove your credit card (cc) details online through your profile.
  3) The only way to cancel and to remove the cc details is to ring up. You'll then get a call center in Bombay. It takes roughly 30mins to cancel the subscription, they will ask you why ..etc etc

  Two months later, a mysterious charge showed up on my cc statement. I was charged with a 1 months membership which I didn't sign up for! Smell a bit like fraud if you ask me.

  Have to ring up again .. oh joy.. Afeter about 30mins on the phone, they still wouldn't refund me the $$. So I said I want to speak to your supervisor. After 20mins later, the guy reluctantly said "Ok, I'll refund you this time, we normally don't refund"… I'm like WTF !?!? It's your fault that I was charged in the first place, and you're making it sound like it was my fault?! WTF?!

  Didn't have the energy to argue with the guy, he struggled with English anyway (although he has a very fake American accent).

  So guys, beware!! Do not sign up unless you really want to.
