Q701 should still need an amp even if they are 64ohm, at least according to the threads I've seen.

Does not require an amp. Sure it will sound a lot better but for the average punter these will still sound great on their ipod etc as is.
I own the DT990 Pros. One of the best headphone purchases I've ever made. I only wish I paid this much for them!

The DT990's are incredibly comfortable and can be worn all day. Sound reproduction is amazing.

They don't sound amazing - but I can hear them.
Q701s are now made in China which probably explains why they're regularly around the $200 US mark now instead of $400. AFIK the DT990s are still made in Germany.
Btw I use a aune T1 amp. I tried my Q1s in an iPod before and the volume isn't very loud maxed out.
The Q701s used to be wholly manufactured in Austria, but now they source most of the components from Vienna, whilst assembly and molding is done in China.

Well i personally have three, I suppose, entry levels (citiscape uptown, CAL 2 and HD439)… Kinda conflicted whether i should get this or HD598…

I already have the DT-880 250 Ohm cans and they are so so good. With a decent amp of course.

Ive seen people say these go well with the q701's also but i was wondering, will the power plug need an adapter for australia as they are from overseas, I assume I choose the 220v option in the commit to buy screen?
Yeah, I chose 220V. Pretty sure I will need an adapter as it does not state what pins it has (I doubt they are Aus)
E17s will run 990 Pros fine, they're not particularly hard to drive.

Guys, how's the sound quality of these compared to the ATH-M50s?
I have the m50s, but was kinda disappointed as I feel that their mids are a bit muffled.
What you guys reckon about these in comparison?
Do you own your m50s only for a short time?
Give them some more time, once they got burnt in, they should be fine.

The M50's are closed cans - these ones are open - completely different sound - bigger soundstage , greater separation , leak more sound etc .
You wont get the bass of the M50's but you will get more clarity from the DT-990's.
Good to have both sets of cans I think!
I actually prefer the DT770 Pro over the DT990, better bass :) that and the sound leakage of the DT990 is so loud everyone in the house can hear what im listening too (might as well use speakers….)
Yep closed vs open cans - all depends on what you sound you are after and what music you listen to …and where. All good fun trying them out though!

I have used a different make of BeyerDynamic (DT770s), and I have to say they have the best build quality and comfort of any I have used. Made in Germany = GOOD.
I always do my best to buy stuff made in Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Japan, France.
Unfortunately I cannot put US in this list (due to degradation of their manufacturing standards for the last 20…30 years).
And it is not as expensive as someone may think compared to purchasing junk produced in countries with lower industrial culture.
I reckon my point is quite clear.
