Supposedly good headphones.
I've been watching them for a while and the previous best price was ~$220 shipped at Massdrop.
Shipping to Sydney was US$9.98.

Always been a fan of low and mid-range Philips headphones; they're just very modestly marketed, so not many people realise they are as good or better than counterparts from Sennheiser, Audio-Technica, AKG and Sony; usually cheaper too. To me they are what low and mid-range Sennys should be, and always manage to combine adequate bass with a balanced soundstage, something that is a friggin' mystery to the sound engineers at Sennheiser who can only do one or the other.
any idea how these compare to the audio technica ad900x's? i am thinking of upgrading
edit: i just bought one but accidentally pressed the negative button. how do i undo?
thanks
Yup, couldn't resist, bought one too. Tried to buy a spare cable and amazon wouldn't ship it. What the heck.
bought one thanks OP
goddammit.. bought.
I'm in lol
Brest headphones ever, too bad I bought them at Christmas for $290¡
Hopefully this means there's a rev ii coming.
Thought long and hard but I caved too! If these sound alright I'll probably sell my 598's
mine just arrived…keen to test them out!
My order tracking says "Your package has left the carrier facility" since last Saturday :(
Finally the status changed, but changed to "Customs clearance process was initiated for your package" :( No wonder it takes so long.
Finally arrived this morning! When I first connected it up, there was only sound from the left speakers. I tried a different cables and players and they were the same. Then later as I was swapping cables the sound came on. I managed to track down the connection problem with the socket on the headphone. I can still use the headphones but I do not know if the problem will become worse. Anyone has the same problem?
no issue with mine. i read that the socket is a weak point of this headphone, so definitely be careful with it!
if its working fine without issue now, i wouldn't worry about it. but if it keeps happening every now and then, i would get a replacement from amazon.
Does the sound come on and off if you wriggle the cable or "play" with the connection? If so I would seek replacement from Amazon. Otherwise wait to see if it happens again. Do note that I believe Amazon has a 30 day return period after which I think you need to deal with the manufacturer (they will still supply the return envelop etc.) so if you are going to raise it I would do it in the first month.
No, when it is working the connection seems solid. Just strange that it wouldn't work initially and one other time later. If it happens one more time, I will send it back for replacement asap. Do not want to take the risk of dealing with the manufacturer.
Same here.
Build quality and parts are phenomenal (real leather, brushed aluminium), and they are, without a shadow of a doubt, the most comfortable circumaural headphones I have ever worn. I don't think these CAN get uncomfortable. Not having to manually adjust the fit is just incredible; the way they mould to your head shape, especially for those of us with Cro-Magnon skulls, is nothing short of genius design on the part of Philips
But follow the advice of that first reviewer on Amazon, buy a 3rd party cable with a low impedance rating. The stock removable cable, while looking very nice and being of a high quality-build, has a very high impedance that distorts the sound.
You can go with something cheap like this (0.2 ohms): http://www.amazon.com/In-akustik-003101015-Series-Stereo-Aud…
I'm using a spare 3.5mm auxiliary cable with a low impedance and it greatly improves the sound quality of these things. At this price, it's criminal how good these sound; on par with everything I've heard that costs 200 dollars more easily.
I bought a Vmoda cable, I believe its about $12
Online or locally? Got a link to the specs?
Yep thats the one. Very good quality cable.
It looks okay but I can't find any impedance rating for it.
Is anyone here using it with the Fidelo X1's?
i believe it's 0.5 ohms.
Is anyone here using it with the Fidelo X1's?
Yes, that was the point ;-)
It was recommended as a cheap yet quality replacement cable for the X1 on InnerFidelity. You can head to that review to check out what exactly was said, I believe there is a measurement of it too.
Thanks guys.
I ordered that In-Akustik cable that the Amazon reviewer recommended; apparently it has been independently tested to 0.2 ohms.
There's also a lengthy discussion on Head-Fi forums about the X1's and the best kinds of cables to use with them, if you're interested:

FYI, that video review is Tyll from InnerFidelity.
*waves fist at bobjane!!!
i really don't need these, but i couldn't resist! :)
