10% off hotel bookings at hotelclub.com (Excludes Big Chains as Usual)

Booked successfully for Hong Kong and Macau as I'm going there in April. The good thing about them is that you can still get member reward rebates (to use on subsequent bookings) even if you use a coupon code. Excludes big chains as usual so those like Holiday Inn and Sheraton won't work. Well, not even the Venetian but it's ok if you're looking at a not-so-big-brand hotel.

Did a dry run for Sydney as well and works ok so I assume it works worldwide. If not, try DISCOUNT for 3% off or hang in there for a chat agent and they typically can get you a better deal. Ok folks, hope this helps.

  • Tried some hotels in Malaysia for July 2014. Works out a few bucks cheaper booking alot of hotels on Wotif Vs using the 10% off with Hotel Club.

My advice, shop around before you book through any % off hotel deal.

    • +1

      Did you try Cheaptickets.com

they had 25% and 20% off

      • Yeah always shop around but I tried hotelclub's Visa/Visa Signature "exclusive" member's page before but I think it's total hokum after a few searches, gave up.

Anyway, some meta search affiliates like hotelscombined.com work well enough with taxes included in the overall results (somehow in Asia they love adding "taxes" so it's not always WYSIWYG).

Ironically I found that rates on such affiliates are sometimes cheaper than going direct to let's say hotels.com.. they're paying the affiliate and yet "punish" direct traffic? WTF!

so you can use hotelclub's normal site but not their visa one?

yes - amazing but true :)

  • What hotel did u book in Hong Kong ? I am going there in mid April as well.

    • I booked Island Pacific Hotel in Sheung Wan, HK Island.

It's about half a mile to the nearest MTR station which is ok for me and I love it coz of the proximity to the ferry terminal to Macau and the price. But your needs might vary; perhaps something on Kowloon peninsular if you're up for the touristy stuff. Slightly jaded bathrooms depending on the room you get (no glamourous bathtub for sure) but ok overall with an in-room safe plus free internet and clean, decent beds. McDonalds a street or so away (I think it's open 24/7 or till late).

Let me know if you're going over to Macau as well. I know that region well enough to see what's a rip off and what's not, especially hotels!

      • I am now confused with 2 options : staying at or hotel or renting an apartment through airbnb which is similar price range. What do u think ?
I will go to Macau but only one day trip as I am not really into gambling .

        • I'd say it depends on the location and how many people you're going with. An apartment with airbnb may make more sense if there are more than 3 or so. Hotel rooms in HK are relatively small (for a A$100ish price range) and squeezing 3 pax in a room is a stretch even with an extra bed.

As for Macau, take the Cotaijet to Taipa if you're headed to the Venetian and the rest of Cotai strip. For Macau peninsular and the more old world touristy stuff, take Turbojet to Macau. Don't buy tix from the touts although there's about HK$20-30 cheaper but you will likely be shoved to a waiting list to board.

          Have fun!

  • Guys.. if you have international debit/credit cards (zero international transaction fees etc) you should use cheaptickets.com (also part of the same hotel selling chain). The code is 25% off - "CHEAPSKATE". I have found it is always cheaper than orbitz and hotelclub.

    Advice for KL:
If you are booking KL, you should consider the clubrooms at Furama (reviews on TA aren't great, but i thought it was fantastic for $68aud). Quite close to bukit bintang's main streets, super cheap and a very nice hotel with great service. I think i've paid as little as $85 for breakfast, wifi, a suite room (asked for the upgrade) and free cocktails and canapes between 6-7.30pm every night. It is a $2 taxi or 20 minute walk to the center if you get a meter. There are closer hotels too that are good value, don't bother spending $200 on 5 star and don't spend bellow $50. Then you should get a pretty nice hotel.

    • LOL nice name that mocks cheapos like us but CHEAPSKATE has expired.

On a brighter note, CHEAPIE20 is available for 20% off but not valid for my Hong Kong (almost had a fright with buyer's remorse!). Seems US focused though. Saw the quote in USD. Seems like a hotelclub clone without the loyalty program so probably better for infrequent travellers.

Tried Sheraton myself in KL. Quite alright, and on the monorail route; coupons aren't usable though, so I'm stuck with 4/10 rewards nights at hotels.com expiring in Aug…
