Fully Transparent Draw based on Bitcoin Blockchain!
It is always a challenge to setup a draw in a way that everyone can trust it. How our clients should make sure the draw will be honest, fair and truly random. The best way will be setting the draw based on something outside our control ( or even anyone's control). So we decided to use the Bitcoin blockchain as a source of continuously generated random numbers! Bitcoin is a decentralised global currency and payment system. Bitcoin Blockchain is a public ledger of the transactions happen in Bitcoin Network from all over the world. The Transactions are put into Blocks nearly every 10 minutes and each block gets a unique code (called hash). Block hash can be treated as totally random number as it depends on its contents and the contents are transactions initiated by different people around the world.
So this is how it works: For every purchase we will assign a hexadecimal digit (0-9 & A-F). This is going to be your winning number! You might be able to choose your number if you get earlier! We need to make sure all numbers are taken!
On Fri 21 Mar 2014 at 12:00 pm we will make a transaction and will donate 0.01011393 to Bitcoin Association of Australia (The address is 1BtcAus9WKuHr2C84FcRV5xJMTDqZ34dZE) and will then wait for the transaction to be included into a block. The last digit of the hashcode for the block that includes this transaction and the next 3 blocks will determine the winners of 50% Cash Back. So we will have 4 out of 16 winners (i.e. 1 out of 4), which means possibility of winning will be 25%. If a purchase wins two cash backs, that just simply means 100% cash back (The possibility of winning two or more is around 5%). More than 100% Cash Back will not be applicable!
This is going to be so exciting! For each block we will need to wait around 10 minutes. There is also possibility (very rare) that the blocks get reversed. So we will be able to announce the winner numbers when 9 blocks after the first block is generated which should be around 2 pm on Fri 21 Mar 2014.
