Asus F452EA-VX021H Laptop with 10GB RAM $442 and Archos 80 ChildPad $154 at Harvey Norman

40

$442 is not as low as $388 but look, 10GB RAM, I really concern how can they install 10GB into these basic lappies??? perhaps this model supports max 16GB (2 x 8GB, 1x6GB + 1x4GB in this case), interesting :)
On the other hand, the tablet looks cool and might be useful for people who would like a budget tablet :) http://www.harveynorman.com.au/hot-deals/archos-80-childpad.…

Ehhh… Not sure about how those AMD processors handle RAM, but you'd be much better off with just the 8GB installed, seeing as how it's 2GB+8GB. Not exactly the smartest idea - they'd have been better off just putting another 2GB stick in!

Processor is too slow. Benchmarks very low, and numerous user complaints about other laptop models with the same CPU being slow.

Extra ram seems like a evil trick by Harvey Norman to clear the laptops.

  • Harvey Norman had these for $388 too - a few weeks ago. I wondered why they put the price up.

I think it might be a typo - says the onboard graphics utilises 2GB ram - it's not a dedicated card with 2gb ram from what i've been reading - therefore looks like the laptop has simply just been upgraded to 8gb (2x4gb).

Also Like ihfree said, the rest of the laptop is very low entry level - not worth it…

Thirdly ram is only useful for what you need. Open task manager sometime and look at what exactly you are using. If you're not even close to 4GB then 8GB is going to do zilch.

Not exactly true, a person that is normally using 3 out of their 4gb ram would actually see a benefit going to 8gb. Modern OS's utilise the otherwise unused ram to cache commonly used programs.

These are low end amd, it works, but don't expect mirracals performance
More ram is always welcome but, the processor is the down in this one.

  • Obviously this is not a top end laptop. Its also not the price of one. If your comparing better specs then advise a laptop which is more value.

But I don't think that comparing a entry level laptop to a performance one is relevant/usefull. If your looking for an entry level cheaply is this the best or do you know a better one?

  • Toshiba or Acer had factory second sale that has last gen core i3 or a6 level amd apu at 4xx price point for 14 to 15 inch
Not new, but capable system with warranty.

  • Spec said 2GB ram.

it might be a marketing thing.
putting 10gb of ram into a pile of shit might attracts certain kind of fly :)

    • I agree, those non-tech people will look at the advert and go… ooh that's cheap

HN ad: "Harvey Norman price smash! 10 gigabytes of RAM in a laptop for a measly $442. Plenty of power for your computing needs, that's 10, yes 10! Gigabytes of RAM for under $500. But hurry… stocks are limited and it ends Monday (or some other day)"

thanks HN, you can pay my fee here
