Been looking for this External sound card. Very popular brand would be Creative (check comparable Creative Xi-Fi 5.1 USB Surround card $77@MSY), but hey.. for 50% sale of normal RRP, i'll give this one a shot.

Suitable for those of you looking a better clarity of sound for your home/music entertainment. For more information, check on youtube/Amazon.

Cheers.

  • Something comparable to this would be the Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Go. I don't think the X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro would be a suitable comparison to this.

No. That version (X-Fi Go) is the lower end, as it doesn't possess 5.1 surround capability. In fact, it is apparently in the different normal price bracket ($29 normal RRP).

The Bahamut doesn't have 5.1 sound either— its virtual 5.1, which is the same as the X-Fi Go (Creative calls it "3D audio" or "3D surround").

The X-Fi Surround 5.1 actually has physical 5.1 line out, as well as optical out, which is why I said what I said.

        • Yeah like a single stereo sound output. How did they think it was a true 5.1 sound?.

  • While this is stereo only, there are plenty of real 5.1 (optical or 3x3.5mm) on ebay for under $15.
    ($25 for AU stock)

For movies, you just use AC3/DTS passthrough on the S/PDIF, so they all sound the same.

I use a small USB dongle with optical out, but nobody seems to sell them any more.

    • Those C-Media 5.1 cards are really, really shitty though. The drivers suck, and sometimes disconnecting them gives me blue screens. I also have a weird popping issue every now and then.

Source: I've got two of them.

Ah yes, fortunately I don't have to deal with the crappy bundled drivers, as I use Linux, which has built-in support. Maybe you can find some decent Microsoft-blessed drivers on the 'net? It is a common chip. Can't you get Windows to automatically download approved drivers?
All your problems seem to be software, not hardware.

I don't expect quality D->As on the cheap cards, but it doesn't matter if you are using digital out to an amplifier.

  • I cant find out if this is amped or not :/ there really isnt much info on it at all around the net.

Good buy I guess if it is amped but I guess its not good quality sound wise.
