    • +1

At the Amazon checkout page, where you finalize your order. In the 'gifts and promotions' input box just under the order total, IIRC.

Post purchase ($0.00), Steam code is in your Amazon "My games and software" section.

      • Thanks, works great. Good deal OP, loved this game back in the day.

  • Works! :)

Did work..thank's OP, but can't seem to find Steam Code.

Does he/she want you to use a stolen credit card? I don't see any other way of completing the transaction without doing something illegal. The actual number you use, will be charged apparently.

I tried using the test card number 5404000000000001 and setting the expiry date to something in the future. This actually doesn't charge to anywhere because it is a test number.

          But then I received this:

          Hello from Amazon.

We've cancelled your recent Amazon.com order, #112-9344216-8951436, because we were unable to charge your credit card.

If you have questions about declined credit card payments, please review the information below.

          WHY DID MY CARD DECLINE?

We are unable to determine why your credit card was declined. A charge can be declined for a variety of reasons, some of which may not be related to the validity of the credit card. For this reason, we often try processing the charge again at a later time.

You may want to contact your card issuer. Some issuers may place restrictions on electronic and Internet purchases.

HOW CAN I UPDATE MY PAYMENT METHOD FOR MY NEXT ORDER?

          1. Shopping Cart: The next time you place an order through the Shopping Cart, enter your new information in the payment section of our order form.

          2. 1-Click: If you prefer to use 1-Click shopping, you can modify your settings for future 1-Click orders through the 1-Click Settings link in Your Account. Click "Your Account" on our website, then click "1-Click Settings." Once you've signed in with your e-mail address and password, you'll be able to change the options for any address in your address book, including the default credit card for each entry.

          3. Your Amazon.com Account: You can add a new credit card to your Amazon.com account before you place an order. Click "Your Account" on our website (you may be prompted to log in). Then click "Add a Credit or Debit Card" in the Payment section and follow the instructions to add your credit card.

WHERE CAN I FIND MORE INFORMATION?

To learn more about the payment methods we accept, visit the Payment, Pricing & Promotions section of the Amazon.com Help pages: http://www.amazon.com/help

          Sincerely,

          I just checked.

I was charged an International Transaction Fee of $0.13

So yeah, I guess you can't skirt Amazon's duplicity here, but for 13 cents, I'm willing to let that go.

No idea why someone would pay USD6.99 for this when the Humble Bundles gives you much better and new games for less.

      • +2

Clearly, you are a Gen Y, grew up knowing COD being the greatest game ever made. You do not have memories of stalking rich aristocrats and stealing from them…sniping their guards off a ledge. You did not go nuts after getting a CD version of this game for Christmas when you were in high-school. You might also claim System Shock 2 you purchased during Steam Sale has horrible graphics and no one should play it in 2014. And we will not blame you for your opinion.

For the rest of us, the $6.99 is a very cheap price to pay for a little fragment of time machine.

        • You forgot zombies.. lol how can you not have a game without zombies thrown in. The 1990 game formula always need zombies or aliens

        • Damn those zombies!!! I hated those damn zombies!!! :|

      • Ha! I could still spend hours playing Way of the Exploding Fist on a Commodore 64 emulator!

  • Awesome, thanks!!

  • Worked - easy. Thanks OP.

  • works perfectly cheers

how do you get past amazon asking for credit card?

    • enter your visa or mastercard is a good start..

      • yeah I would probably rather not if I am putting in a fake american address

        • The shipping address can be absolutely anything for digital downloads, irrespective of where the CC was issued. The billing address would need to match up but in this case there is nothing to be billed, so you don't need to enter one.

      • You may receive a foreign exchange fee… Just be careful when using your card.

See my post above. I have now successfully purchased the game, but I'll have to wait until I get my CC transactions list to see if I have been hit with a fee.

        • ?? What's the fee on a $0 USD purchase?

EDIT: okay, I see Amar89's comment. Curious. Nothing showing on mine.

    • You don't get billed until you actually progress past the last order screen, at which point upon entering the promotional code, the order total will be $0.00.

You could try the fake CC Number Generator here (guesstimating an expiration date is a little trickier but generally most CCs are valid for 3 years): www.getcreditcardnumbers.com

      Here receive one thousand kudos

    • cheers mate, I took LYPHZ-XD0QA-TDLVH

      • I am curious if your worked as I already activated the 1st one

        • yeah I meant to paste the second code, I just had the first one copied in case the second one didn't work on steam and forgot I did that when I replied.

        • To answer an earlier question, you get a Duplicate Product Code error message from Steam.

  • I can't use amazon .. my account is screwed up and can't recover it and Amazon is not helpful .. can some one PM me a Key please?
[will advise once received - thanks in advance.]

    • :(

      • the key for the game or the key to enter on amazon?

        • game key .. I could/should have gotten a key for the game now I think about it .. but I knew I would not get through Amazon.

        • replied to your PM

        • Thanks! .. sorted.

  • DOUBLE POST

  • To activate the game on Steam just go to 'Your Games and Software Library' on Amazon once you're done and the activation code (product code) will be beneath the picture of the game.

How do I get it to run at greater than 800x600 resolution?

    • Looks like that will require a mod.

      http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=134733

Best site for advice on running games in resolutions they weren't intended to be run.
      http://www.wsgf.org/dr/thief-dark-project

      • You realize that all wsgf.org does is it links to the forum post which I submitted earlier?

        • It's a centralised repository of hacks/workarounds/tweaks/enhancements for running older games on modern resolutions or running non-supported games on extremely large resolutions (like tri-monitor setups). Not a bad website to have bookmarked, especially if you have a lot of retro games in your library. It's host to many of the site's own resolution fixes developed through testing and trial & error and keeps up-to-date on handy developments like Widescreen Fixer.

Teach a man to fish, etc.

  • Mines all modded up and looks a lot better and now that its running at 1920x1080 with HD textures.

Thanks for sharing the link ninjastar

The part I don't understand is it is a Steam game and Amazon is prompting me to download it. I feel a bit silly, but is there a Steam activation code anywhere? Not sure why Steam is referred.

    • +1

Have a read of some of the earlier comments.
After purchasing, go to the "Your Games and Software" section of Amazon, and you can find the Steam code in there.

      • I did read the comments before posting but did miss the obvious one stating how to activate on Steam. Thanks for the reminder btw.

  • Worked like a charm. Cheers.

  • it works but I am not in the US so it didn't work.

  • If I put my code in to steam and my card is declined (as someone said happened to them above) will my account be terminated on steam? Thats usually what happens when a card is declined, but im not sure if it applies to codes

  • Thanks! First code I got was rejected by Amazon for some reason but the second worked fine.

I got about half way through this game when it first came out so doubt I'll finish it this time around but you never know!

  • +4

Codes are all gone for now. Please try again later.

The automated message received when trying to sign up for a free copy as of now.

  • +1

    :'( no more codes.

    Missed out.

If anybody managed to grab a code but does not want it (what's the chance of that … haha), I'd gladly free your hands from it.

  • same for me

  • +2

I guess you could say this deal is quite a steal.

  • Worked like a charm.

  • I just got a code then, so maybe they have more keys again?

  • Tested it and got a code. Not going to use it, so here is a spare one:

    DY23-Y6J9NM-VPCX4P

    DY28-N3QY3X-AWG84F

Once gone, let other know you have used it.

    n'joy

    • Both seem to be gone, thanks for offering.
I managed to get my own after 10 tries or so.

  • Code all gone 912pm

Edit: Tried again, got a code.

  • Here's an unused amazon code, I don't want a fake cc number or a us address! I would greatly appreciate if anyone with some spare time could kindly use and pass on the steam code! Otherwise hope someone makes better used of this than I would :)
    DY62-389CJ4-HSAMES

    • "the code is not valid"

  • -1

    Expired

  • +2

$10 says 99% of you won't even play it.

    • Ill play the new one ;)

  • I just got a new key! Not expired?
    But Amazon rejected it…. boo..

  • Working for me! Thanks

  • Just got a key and redeemed without issue. Thanks!

  • +1

I still have Thief in physical copy, though I also got a copy on GoG for about $0.99 a while back. While this deal sounds good, it's a lot of stuffing around for a game so far past it's prime ……
I loved it in the 90's but it bored me after 30 minutes recently.

    • A lot of stuffing around? Fill in form..get code…redeem in Amazon…redeem in Steam. Hardly 'stuffing around'. Took me all of 2 minutes, tops.

      • I think he meant getting it running acceptably on Win7 or Win8 (if you want high-res texture packs, sound replacement packs, mods, etc.). It's not that much of a hassle but there are a lot of issues you can encounter, definitely.

And even when Thief was new, it was already running on an out-dated engine; it hasn't held up well visuals-wise, and gameplay-wise, it may or may not be your cup of tea depending on when you were born and when you got into video games.

  • +1

It's still working for me as well. Cheers for the deal!

  • +2

I just got a new key, worked fine and redeemed in Steam. Not sure why this is marked as expired.

  • Same - still active 12pm 21st Feb

  • My code didnt work.

Then I tried 3 more times.

Then One worked. So its not expired yet (12:30pm)

  • Currently unavailable
We don't know when or if this item will be available again.

  • +1

    Works again.

    • Worked with yesterday's code

  • Still working at 15:12

  • Yups… working now.

  • Still working :)
