  • Thanks, great for an OS drive for my old Core 2 Duo desktop.

  • Cheers, made my order :)

  • my N54L thanks you. I'd hit the + button but my work's internet explorer is crippled and it doesn't do anything when i do.

AUD$60 delivered. Not bad compare to MSY @ AUD $79 plus 3 year warranty.
    Thank you.

    Good price.
The improved boot time off an SSD is astonishing.
At this price worth it to upgrade media centres or any other system you are sick of waiting for it to boot.

What timing. Will go well with my new Intel NUC!

how about that for a deal 120Gb for 64.99 US plus shipping

    • I was looking at that just a moment ago. Seems to be mixed reviews with the latest firmware?

  • Shipping Express was selling this same model SSD for $59 shipped. Bought one in November last year, very happy, using it in Power PC Mac Pro.

I am always tempted whenever these deals roll around but I have been loath to get one as I don't want to format my hdd and stuff around with reactivating windows and office.

Last time I needed to format there was none on sale, so not sure whether to buy one now and keep it in the drawer? they seem to just be getting cheaper.

Just clone your system onto it with an SSD aware clone tool. Win7/8 System Image for example.

  • Oh crap what to do? My 256gb ssd in my laptop died which is way overkill for my laptop needs. A 60gb will do for my laptop. Just bought a crucial 240gb as a cache drive for my unraid server off Amazon on the weekend. It has now shipped so missed the opportunity for combined shipping. Been hanging out for a 120gb deal for my main pc so I could then put my 60gb ssd into my laptop. Unsure if I should continue to wait 120gb drive or just grab another 60gb at this good price.

    Excellent price for the Sandisk

    • Probably better off considering a Crucial atround this price point. It has dropped down to $125 twice in the last week. Likely to hit that price again soon

Still a good buy for the Kingston though

  • get one of these to turn this SSD into a super fast portable hdd: http://www.amazon.com/Anker%C2%AE-Converter-Adapter-Cable-in…

    • Wouldn't this solution be better and cheaper. Should be similar speeds I thought.

    • Forgot to include crucial ( no pun intended ) info for my below empty comment. Here is what I was meant to add :

HIGH QUALITY ALUMINIUM 2.5" SATA USB 3.0 EXTERNAL PORTABLE HDD ENCLOSURE CASE

      http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HIGH-QUALITY-ALUMINIUM-2-5-SATA-U…

      • Or this one for $4 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dual-Power-eSATA-USB-12V-5V-Combo… works well with SSD's, shielding may not be required for SSD.

You would have to be cautious of using an SSD for data though.

      • wasn't meant to say thats the cheapest product, but the idea of using ssd as a cheap (and fast and supports more write cycles) portable drive. :)

there are pros and cons of getting a dedicated case vs adapter btw.

      • Bought the PATA variant of that case some time ago to access data from a dead laptop's drive. The quality of the PCB looked pretty bad. Also vaguely recall running into some major annoyance with way the drive fit into it due to a design issue with the case, although I can't remember the details.

Used ones here for $3-5 less if you're interested: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/?ASIN=B007ZWLRSU&cond…

    • I personally would not buy an used ssd. I have had 2 fail on me. The tiny savings vs risk is not worth it. I also doubt any of the used ones ship here

    • +1

$3 saving for a second hand drive!? Not sure if serious but have a neg anyway.

  • Thanks Op. Bought one.

  • I have an old acer emachines laptop that is all round slow as shit. Would an SSD fix that apart from boot up time?

    • It should also open up programs faster, with some added gains moving around data etc.

      • What he said… but when CPU usage is required… slow will still be slow. I had a SSD in a netbook for a while to try out. Still felt like shit.

        • Depends on what you do with it. My old core duo laptop felt like a new machine with an SSD. Boot times dropped to seconds, everything was snappy and the windows cache was lightning quick.
This was for web/office stuff, and well worth it to get another year or two out of the system.
Not useful if you are hoping to play modern games, render 3d etc.
I just bought this one for the kids laptop. The most demanding game they use is Minecraft so I reckon this will go well.

        • Nah this lappy has onboard gfx so it's literally for browsing/Skype and that's probably it. Not even gonna store anything on there. Sounds like I should jump on board…

  • Looks like deal over.
