  • Do I need to sign up to anything to get it?

    • The tutorials? No. The workbook? Yes.

  • +1

Basic tutorial video doesn't load or a message appears "You are not authorised to view this resource."

Not sure if this is a bargain if it always has been free. More like advertising to get people to buy the beyond basics videos.

    • Ozbargain has an option to list items as a freebie. That's what I did. Yes indeed I am hopeful to sell the next course, but this is a complete introductory course that, for many people, is all they need. Unlike other free courses, this is not stripped down in any way. Years ago, when online training wasn't so popular, I sold this on its own for $35, so, in my view, it's a genuine bargain.

I have had a couple of people report that error. This course is embedded from YouTube and if that is blocked from where you are, then it will be blocked on my site too. It's also available for free at Udemy, but Ozbargain no longer allows links to their site.

      • I would check your page permissions, I can see all youtube vids but also get this error first time I load this page. Refreshing/viewing after first visit just displays blank page.
Edit: Now I've registered and logged in, I can see the article title ("The Basics") but no other content - this page is still blank. Beyond the Basics page works fine with vid embedded etc.

        • There's pretty much nothing worse than teaching something that you yourself get wrong. Thanks - I was logged in and wasn't viewing it the same way as the public sees it.

          All good now.

      • What do u mean, ozbargain no longer allow links to udemy? Is it just links or udemy deals altogether?

        • I THINK this means if you are the course instructor you cannot post. Perhaps others can list Udemy courses. But here is the error message I got when I tried to link to my course:

Representatives for domain udemy.com have been banned from posting due to:Rep Posts Not Allowed (Rep only).
Please refer to Posting Ban Explained wiki page for more information.
Note that if you are a course instructor or a representative on Udemy, you are not allowed to post your course on OzBargain.

  • When will this expire? I'd just like to plan to do it when I'm slightly less busy if possible haha

It will expire when I do. So hopefully in another 40 years or so.

  • I have been using Joomla 1.5 for a few years (mainly because the templates were built for that version). Is there a BIG difference between Joomla 1.5 and 3? - or does version 3 just have a larger range of templates, extensions etc?

    • First off, thanks OP for the tutorials & workbook, well put together.

Tony, to answer your question, there is quite a difference - but if you are familiar with Joomla 1.5 you will find Joomla 3 easy enough to get your head around. Main differences I find is that there is no need to hack/hard code anything as there are template/language files for component&module layouts and language over rides. However the upgrade path is messy but persistence will pay off. Keeping everything up to date has to be the best feature - check a single Updates page, and anything needing updating is easily viewable and upgradable with a single click (well most components/modules/plugins anyway). Tutorials provided by OP will help you learn more :)

    • Joomla 1.5 is no longer officially supported. If a security issue is discovered, there is no guarantee that it will be fixed. As it happens this did occur a few months ago and due to the severity of the issue, someone kind did release a patch. However, despite the millions of sites still powered by 1.5, it is important to upgrade or rebuild. It's pretty safe to say that the day will come when your site will get hacked.

      The big differences are:

      • Vastly improved access control that gives you control over who can view certain content and who can manage content (although it is easy to screw up as I did on this occasion! ALWAYS test when you're not logged in.)
      • Mobile-friendly templates
      • Multi-lingual
      • Version control (from version 3.2)
