Not sure when this deal ends though.

  • Good price, but a question if I may:

Twice a year we have verge junk collection here, and there are dozens of cheap barbecues like this thrown out.

Why is that? They don't look so old and broken like most of the junk. Is it just the jets get blocked and they don't know how to clear them?
Do they break down quickly, or people just impulse-buy, never use them, and get sick of cleaning it?

I was tempted to take one recently, but somebody had already gone around removing all the cast-iron hotplates.

Cheap burners will often corrode and get internal blockages, after a while they become practically unusable. You can replace them with decent burners, but for the price of those you can buy a whole decent BBQ. The frames of these are made out of cheap steel too, you can't leave them exposed to the elements or they fall to bits quite rapidly. You can't always see the poor condition of the frame when you're driving by.

Sounds like the 'replace your cheap inkjet printer when the ink runs out' principal applies to cheap BBQs too.
    (got my BBQ for $39.80)

    • Care to comment on the quality? Does it heat well? Is it flimsy? Does it handle the weather?

      • I've only used it a couple of times to replace my rusted $200 model. It feels a bit weird lifting it by the side tray when wheeling it around. Could do with some sort of a handle, but it'll do. I keep it in the garage to avoid the weather. My last one was outside with a cover over it - burners & knobs rusted.

  • Saw what looked like an identical BBQ (Jackeroo hooded 4-burner, $99) in Bunnings (Armadale, WA) yesterday as well.

  • I was looking at buying this

But glad I didn't this deal looks better

  • Reviews of this BBQ are not great.

  • I used to be all in favour of these cheap bbq's.
After going through 3 in 4 years (from kmart/aldi etc) and having years of frustrating cooking I bit the bullet a few months ago and bought a weber q… yes its over double the price of this one, but it goes through muxh less gas, cooking is so much better and its traveling really well.
And when you speak to people who have had this, they will tell you that they last forever.

The iPhone of BBQs. The two problems with society for an Ozbargainer is that there is somuch crap out there on the cheap side, and there is so much overpriced stuff also.

In the old days people were happy cooking on a coal barbie or just a basic flat top bbq, now everyone is watching Masterchef we are a bunch of food snobs and need a hood and gas and even heat etc when really the most important thing is to know your own bbq and take care of it. Sure some of these things are good but the important thing is to know your BBQs limits and cook appropriate to it and your ingredients

        1. I dont have a tv at home so I cant comment re masterchef influence.

        2. I grew up on a weber kettle bbq for as long as I can remember. .. they make good bbqs.

        3. I went through enough cheap bbqs and got sick of having to buy and build each one. I feel my comment was not from the view of a food snob but rather one who is sick of dealing with crap bbqs. Maybe iwad just unlucky. .. I really took care of then but they just did not last.

I originally bought the baby q for a trip but have kept on using it as our regular bbq… I genuinely have been impressed.

I bought my Jackeroo barby nearly 10 years ago from Kmart and it still works great . It's always been under cover and not very heavily used . A 9kg bottle lasts us 2 summers . It has started to develop a bit of crazing on the fascia which looks a bit daggy so for $100 I'm happy to replace it .
The fat tray in this model looks a little small . My current barby has a fat tray that runs the length of the cooking surface .
