Great price for a very good camera with an excellent lens. The Fujinon 18-55mm is versatile, optically excellent and sells for $650 on its own.

It is more of an enthusiast oriented camera with limited auto modes so probably not a good idea unless you have some photography experience or want to learn.

The X-E2 has been out for a while but the improvements are fairly minor (improved autofocus, wifi, better LCD).

  • That is a great price for the kit. The lens itself is almost worth it alone.

Even though the e-x1 has been superseded by the x-e2, it is still a great camera with excellent image quality (though focus is a little slow)

  • I'm seriously considering getting one, even if I already have one.. I bought mine with the 35mm lens, and its a bit useless and always wanted the 18-55.. much more usable.. and then just sell off the body for a few hundred..

  • That is crazy cheap… I can sell the lens and use the body for my nikon lenses.

    • I am thinking the opposite. Sell the body and buy the X-T1 body

  • But is it actually in stock? I got caught before christmas wanting to buy something that appeared to be in stock but wasnt. I ended up buying from the US.

    • If you are someone who is buying an X-E1 you won't be desperate for it, and at 699, who cares as long as they honor the price when they ship it.

BTW those who is worry about the focusing speed, report form internet suggest that it is good enough after the firmware upgrade. Yes it is no X-E2 or X-T1 performance, but you will pay much more for those two.

      • Yep, I have an X-E1 and the latest firmware upgrades have certainly sped things up Autofocus wise. That's the great thing about Fuji, they seem to be very good at supporting and improving on their older products through firmware updates.

        • The video auto focusing can be shocking at times, but the camera is more of a still shot camera so that's probably why.

  • I always found the sfyle of these ranges to be awesome, but the AF speed compared to like an olympus has spoiled me too much to go back to something slow

    • I had an E-M5 before buying an X-E1. The Olympus is definitely better, but slower AF has rarely been an issue with the Fuji.

  • This is a great deal,

    I ordered one in black.

    Thank you,

    Chris

  • They apparently do have stock, I placed my order and should get it soon.

I wonder how they can do it at this price as it is at least aud200 lower than the lowest price I can find around the world. I hope it is not refurbished……

    • Nope.. brand new.. in perfect condition.. mine arrived yesterday and all good..

I bought one of these about a year ago for $1300, but with the 35mm 1.4 lens instead.. I bought another kit because the 18-55 mm is just as expensive as kit itself.. so got a second body for ~$100!

      • That is how much X-E2 grey stock is selling now. Local stock can be have for around $1550 if you caught a 10% sale, otherwise $1680. X-T1 just body is going for $1649. It is a no brainier to catch this deal and spend the money you save on some good lens.

I wish there is a function in OzBargain to push deal… I will surely be doing that for this one. These guys constantly push out some amazing deals and deserve our support.

    • Yeap got mine yesterday also definitely brand new

      • Yes I got mine too….brand new.

Quick chat with Tony and he said head office may have done a deal with Fuji Australia to clear the left over stock hence the special price.

The staff told me they actually got a few box delivered to them from Melbourne office and they will keep the pricing for now.

        • Any idea if the other lens/fuji X-E1 kits will be lowered to this price?

        • The 18-55mm is the most expensive lens you can get.. and I believe the 18-55 was the default kit lens, and anything else, they'd have to substitute it out with your lens of choice..

        • X-E1 OFFICAL KIT is with the XF 18-55. If you buy one from a supplier what give you the XC 16-50 lens. That mean they have swap the lens. Very common with suppliers for Asia so that would be a grey product.

Anyway why would you want the XC lens, The XF lens is no kit lens. Full metal outer metal barrel and Very sharp. As for the price, did you saw I wrote this is the lowest price you can find AROUND THE WORLD.

So cheapest price, solid gear and local warranty. Trust me you wont find a better deal in this price and IMO best price vs quality ratio on the market right now. And no I don't work for Fujifilm or Digidirect.

BTW those who have problem focusing with AFS mode in low light, you need to change to AFC mode and live with single point focus, but its is much faster and accurate.

        • I don't want the XC lens, I want the XF 18 pancake so I can pocket the camera.
I already have the kit with 18-55mm here, bought it last year and just wondering if I could buy the 18mm kit at $699, use the lens and give to body to a friend or something.
But I see they swap out lens so probably not.
          Thanks,

        • @Macgyver: I sent you a message regarding the XF 18mm.

        • You can buy it with that lens they have the following option:
          Product Options:

with Fujfilm 18-55mm OIS Lens - Black $699.00

Obviously the kit is the only set that is on special :)

  • Just got one of these in store.
Apparently the sales dude said that they've been getting a few complaints from 'local' stores and in an email sent by GM they'll be increasing the prices shortly. Not sure when but i thought it was worth buying.

    • The only people complaining will be Georges and Teds as Fuji Australia don't sell X Series to JB and DSE.

I don't think the people in digiDirect is stupid enough to make a lost. Lets say they make a 10% gross profit. That means the set cost $630. Georges is selling for $990 That is a 57% markup by them!!!!! DISGUSTING!!!!!!

  • 57% markup is not disgusting by any means. Do you know how much staff costs and rent costs in the CBD? notice how woolies and coles have half price specials every week? they're also not selling at a loss so ill let you do the math on your groceries.
i dont agree that Digidirect should buckle to these complaints though, its a superseded product and they should be able to put whatever price they want on it.

    • I disagree with that. You just have to look at their annual report and you know their margin is no where close to 50%

My comment on Georges and Teds is in particular related to how camera stores price their non Nikon/Canon products. Such product has niche market in Australia, large store like JB are less willing to stock these products due to lower turn around. And stores like Teds and Georges knows people who what these stuff has to come to them so they Jack the price up.

You only have to look at grey imports to realize how these stores rip us off. With our $ now down to 0.89, grey camera products are still 15-20%.

  • Hi fellow ozbargainers,

hoping to get this camera today. are there any accessories that you would recommend that i should pick up at the same time, like a lens filter or a spare battery. If so, is there a particular brand/item that i should look out for. Would appreciate any feedback please.

    cheers

    • Get the Hoya Pro filter. High quality and give your lens good protection. excellent for street photographer who leave their lens cap off most of the time.

      • thank you - they seem to have a few filters in that range. not sure what the difference is between the different filters in the 58mm range.

        http://www.digidirect.com.au/accessories/filters/hoya_pro1d_…

any thoughts would be great. Thank you again!!

        • For the PRO 58mm series Hoya only has two

Hoya 58mm UV (O) HD Filter
          Hoya 58mm UV (O) Pro1D DMC Filter

          I brought the cheaper one.

  • thank you
