  • Shipping kinds kills the deal @ $8.50

    • Not if you buy a bunch!

I just hate companies that try and make money on postage when it really costs them 60c

        • 60 cents is the cost the postage charged by Australia Post. Can be lower if you do the Clean Mail sending. 58cents?

Then you gotta add cost of envelope, and also the letter, ink to print a letter and or address. And finally the cost of taking the letters to the post office etc..

        • +3

its obvious their trying to make money on postage

Regular Mail: You can buy a prepaid envelope for 70c —> they charge $8.50

          Tracking Mail: 60c postage with $3.50 registered post = $4.10 —> they charge $12.50

Express Mail: Medium (C5) Envelope is $6 —> They charge $16.95

          Pretty high markup for postage

        • +2

It's a handling cost. I know I get paid about $1000 an hour.

        • +1

But you know labour is expensive in Australia.

I'm not defending them, just saying that there are other costs involved. If you think the postage is too expensive, simple dont buy.

It's like I sold an item on ebay and I post postage $30 anywhere in Australia. I sent the package and on the AP slip it says $15 postage. The buyer will probably go oh farkk they ripped me off, I want my $15 refund rawrr rawwrr rahh.

But the buyer originally saw the postage as $30 yet they still buy it.

        • That's a sure way to get less than 5 stars on your postage and handling feedback for being unreasonable.

        • +6

Again what about packaging fee? Cost of Box, Cost of bubble wrap, Cost of Sticky Tape, Cost and time to take to post office.

          Nothing is free.

        • -4

@Turd, i guess your also one of the {censored} who also go out of your way to remove any legit negative feedback on ebay as well? its people like this that make that place such a corrupt hole…..

        • Dont use it if it is a "corrupt hole". Go to Gerry Harvey and buy there.

        • -4

Dont use it if it is a "corrupt hole". Go to Gerry Harvey and buy there.

you could have simply left it as "yep, im one of those dodgy ebay sellers"

          what is your ebay id?

i like to try and keep away from the con artists on ebay if i can

        • Wow your definition of "con artist" is very broad.

What about people who actually are frauds, like say in your government.

Perhaps you should notify ACA and TodayTonight about the 'con artists'

  • Postage is $8.50 bringing the total for a $20.00 gift card to $23.50.

    No Bargains here.

    • Um, buy one more in the same order?

This will end badly I think.

  • Not sure what the $12 thing is but I only have one option for $15. To maximise the value I'll have to buy multiple cards ($15 for a $20 gift card) to overcome the loss I have with fixed postage of $8.50.

    Pretty good deal though.

Buying 5 x $20 cards will cost you $75 and you add on top $8.50 in postage to make it $83.50 total for $100 worth of gift cards.

I'd probably pay the extra for the $12.50 tracked postage though as a just in case.

    Regards
    Daniel

obvious question that no one asked…. why is a graphic design site selling gift cards???

someone hack their eCommerce system and insert them for the LOLz?

  • Fail

    • -5

The person who posted this did not read the T & Cs.

The description clearly said that it was limited and designed for their REWARDS PROGRAM.

You should feel bad for crashing a legitimate small business website.

      • Why do you charge $8.50 to send a gift card with standard post? IE 70c cents worth including a generous 10c for the envelope.
        Are you scabs?

        • +9

horribly attacked by people with no interest in our products or loyal customers.

What a load of BS. You had a product listed on your website with a public link that was usable by anyone. You say it said in the description it was designed for a rewards program, well I'm telling you that I certainly didn't see anything about that and I did read it given I was skeptical that it was a genuine offer. Given that, we had no way of knowing this shouldn't be available to everyone, so saying it was "horribly attacked" is a complete load of BS.

Don't blame us because you weren't smart enough to protect the product (either by unique discount coupons, only offering it to registered users with past purchases, etc.).

        • +1

ccwwayne hit this 17 times with stolen cards?
Dafuq? Are you sure? Possibly some mistake? He has been a member for ever!
Guess we know what the cc stands for now…

        • +4

Why are you so angry and bitter? You were the one that listed the item on your website with no exclusions. It didn't say it was exclusively for those with reward points to spend, nor did you place a limit on the amount of gift cards that one could order.

It isn't a false deal in any sense of the word. Your company is false for advertising the cards as such and not making clear that these were ONLY available to customers who bought other items. Heck, you don't even require the customer to use a single reward point to purchase it. If anything, you should be apologising to us for making a mistake and screwing up people's orders by not honouring a contract with terms and conditions that you just made up on the spot and were listed nowhere. We are not DUMB.

There is no reason to attack the OP of this thread and your PR is absolutely appalling. I'm sure you don't give a damn about that though given your attitude.

        • Your website was not horribly attacked, it was utilised by people eager to purchase a product which you have live on your site. You demonstrated that your site does not have the capacity to manage a (smallish) spike in traffic.

There's nothing fraudulent about this post, the deal or you cancelling the purchases.

What will be a massive issue though if you complete any of the credit card payments in an pre-authorisation state. Once you do this, you have essentially taken the money and cancelled the order, which is closer to the definition of 'fraud' than anything you've espoused.

          Be very careful, CAV.

        • @King Tightarse said:

ccwwayne hit this 17 times with stolen cards?

          The comment was:

17 credit cards used in response to this post by ccwwayne today were stolen.

I read this to mean that rep is saying that there were 17 stolen cards used by people trying to get this deal which was posted by ccwwayne. As in, 'this post by ccwwayne' goes together.

        • +1

I see what you mean. I read it the "bad" way. I was so surprised by that statement I assumed (still do) that it was an error.

Perhaps its time to piss off the lurkers. Make deals only available to registered members?

        • +1

How the hell is it ccwwayne's fault? Your website, your responsibility! And how do you know if they're stolen anyways?

      • +2

No, we shouldn't feel bad for crashing a legitimate small business website, when we had no way of knowing this was not a genuine offer.

  • I feel bad for the owner of the website.

  • -6

Moronic posts like this are how places like Ozbargain get a bad name.

    • +3

      pls go

  • Received this this morning:

"Your money will not be refunded for up to 2 weeks for the orders you placed for gift cards on Cool Art Vinyl.

We have provided all of the details of people from OZBARGAIN who crashed our website because several stolen credit cards were used.

They will be investigating the situation that occurred yesterday.

When they have completed their investigation, they will refund any money paid that was legitimate.

I am sorry if this inconveniences you, but we are unable to refund money while they are sorting through the list of stolen versus legitimate.

    Regards

    Lindsay Frangs
    Business Manager"

I'm wondering whether Cool Art took into consideration that it may have been non members of OzBargain who used the stolen credit cards. This post would have been viewable by guests to the site. How can Cool Art track which visitors to their website were actually OzBargain members, which visitors were "guests" to OzBargain and which visitors found the Cool Art site doing a normal google search for discounted gift cards. I'm sure anyone with stolen credit card details would be on the lookout for deals like this one without ever having to use OzBargain.

I also agree with other OzBargain members that there shoud have been better security and explanations on the Cool Art website regarding who was allowed to purchase these giftcards.

    • +5

What I find a bit strange is why there would be any distinction between stolen cards (if there actually were any) and others when it comes to refunds.

Independent of the status of the credit card no product was or will be delivered, so the store has no right to hold on to any funds. In either case the rightful owner of the credit card should not be left out of pocket.

    • +1

Why would someone use a stolen credit card and then try to save money on it.

Seems like your bitter at a community for tripping over your website issue.

  • +6

It seems more and more like a scam site:

    • False advertising and non-existing products;
    • Charge customers on the spot and cancel the transaction immediately;
    • Keep the money for a unreasonable long period of time with some lame excuse;
    • Steal customer information (why allow to create new customer while it is for "our customers who order our wall art products"?);
    • Defame an innocent web user and legit customers;

If anything fraudulent about this incident, it definitely is the website.

    • +3

in that case, they should change their name to Conartvinyl.com

  • +3

I hope that this page ranks high in Google, when anyone searches for their business. They have handled the situation very poorly, I wouldn't want to do business with them.

    • Pages often rank high in google for OzBargain - not only that, but there is a LARGE amount of users on here.

      • Cool art vinyl search doesn't show OzBargain in the first 7 pages
However Cool Art Vinyl OzBargain, this page is the 1st result

  • +4

Hmm. If you don't get your money back within the next 3 business days then just charge back. I believe the charge back will impose a fee on their business.

I don't see it hard for you to win the charge back, since you bought a item, it got cancelled and the seller is refusing to pay the money back and making excuses.

If you really are getting these cards verified, then post some proof or else you won't be trusted.

    • Agree…all huff and puff….no way this would have been actioned so quickly with decisions like that being made. Business manager seems to be talking crap. Website admins brought this on themselves, nothing else to it.. Definitely won't be going anywhere near that website again, considering the talk here.

      • Business manager, moody much?

    • They actually listed chargeback as an option in the email they sent me about getting a refund. They say there's no fee for them and they don't mind.

      • Yes, new email just arrived.

Now that they've completed the transaction and taken my money, I'm pissed.

You can't cancel an order, take the money and use your mismanagement of offers, alleged stolen credit cards and managerial incompetancy to justify not refunding payments.

Your screw-up is your screw up, CAV/Lindsay. Own up and stop screwing around everyone.

  • +5

New email arrived, they are not hornouring the transaction but offerring options for refund, of which:

    1. Email a scan of your credit card that clearly shows the name used to place the order, the expiry date and the last four digits of the main number. Cover all other numbers. By doing this we can confirm that the card is in your possession and not stolen.

From this incident, the website's credibility is obviously in question, as well as their capability in protecting the crucial data. Do you trust them enough to give them all the credit card details, literally?

Above all, do you know whether there is actually stolen card involved? The only source is from the liar business mamager. An even bigger question arise, are they using this excuse to actually steal personal and credit card information, given all the c…p they talked on the forum.

    • +2

Isn't it easier to process a charge-back instead? The whole thing sounds dodgy, I wouldn't be sending them a copy of my card for any reason…

Is it even legal for them to hold onto funds for a cancelled transaction?

      • +2

this is total bullshit. even if its a stolen card number, originally the money came out of the legit owners account and the refund will put the money back into the legit owners account… stolen or not… there is no excuse for the reps BS and i wouldnt be handing over any more info to this corrupt, dodgy company. this whole saga stinks of corrupt from the outset. maybe phishing for info with there dodgy gift card scheme in the beginning before OzB got hold of it and the rep got scared of all the publicity and closed down there scam?

sounds like the only thief here is the rep…

  • +1

    Gotta love their Facebook page:

"For some reason, a crazy person placed on a deal website that you could buy Cool Art Vinyl gift cards for low cost, PLUS listed a 20% discount code that we left open. The crazy person was not us and was not endorsed by us in any way. The result was not good. If you did try and buy this "non existent" low cost gift card and the website took your order- we will get you sorted out in the next week.

For those who have no idea what we are talking about- HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!"

we will get you sorted out in the next week.

I am scared! I am talking about you, crazy person.

    • +1

Unless I'm missing it it seems the post was removed…

      • Looks like they have since deleted the post.

        • +1

I'm guessing someone had a quiet word with Lindsay and suggested that referring to a customer a "crazy person" probably isn't good for business.

  • Hi all,

I believe CoolArtDesign is sorting out the refund. Meanwhile, please refrain posting and commenting on their Facebook page. Also please keep the discussions civil here. Not every retailer is experienced with handling price / website error & getting ozbargained at the same time.

    • But it's everyone's RIGHT!!!! to abuse people after not being able to rip them off due to an error that wasn't able to be exploited.
