Retractable are terrible if you don't have front ports on our comp
reaching back, figuring out the way it goes in and it retracting while u push it in is annoying
I got the scandish version of this

price is preety damn good though

I have one of theseand works pretty well.

I think your hand co-ordination needs some work

      • How do you know he's blind!? (It's 'hand-eye coordination'.)

        Typo police!!! ;-p

        • +4

Wouldn't reaching around the "back" mean he can't see the port & is solely working from touch? Ergo, "hand co-ordination" would make more sense than hand-eye as the eyes play no part.

          Obviously hasn't undone a women's bra…..

        • LOL! ;-D

      • Maybe his hand's got RSI from trying to insert it the wrong way!!

On a serious note, it's a good point, some retractables, like the Sandisk lock when they're extended.

Laptops/Netbooks/Transformable Tablet users won't have as much trouble.

You need to practice your reach around technique.

      Scandish?
      I assume thats Sandisk.

anywho, this drive is likely to be slow, but for my use (write-once MP3 player storage) it'll be ideal.

      Thanks!

you have to stop pressing the retract button /slider when trying to put it in. hold it on the edges away from it.

    • I have an 8GB version of this. It locks in when you extends all the way out. But I do know what you mean. It can be annoying to get them in for some of them.

  • I have one that looks the same and its USB3

  • price is about right, though if this is usb 3 then its more of a bargain.

  • Ive got the Usb 3 model cept 16 gig and its alittle annoying when the speed is only 10 meg

Slow but usable is what im after.

If you run on windows solely, the I suggest you run:

    convert E: /fs:ntfs

Assuming E is your flash drive. Normally windows wont let you format to NTFS, but its happy to convert to it :)

    • Windows always let me convert things to NTFS, TBH though I haven't noticed a difference between any filesystem other than FAT32 which seems to drop files all the time and get easily corrupted. The only reason I'd use it is if I had to for compatibility.
Even then though you can use the format usually used on CD/DVD UDF, if you use a program like gparted to format your drive into that and that can be write/read by Windows,Mac,Linux so you'll be right.

FAT32 has a max file size limitation of approx 4GB.

If you plan to be copying HD Movies, I would definitely format as NTFS :)

  • Couldn't find it on its website. Is it available now?

    • Available in-store only

  • I remember getting a 16 GB version of this probably about 5 years ago for $10 (thanks OzBargain!), still working great.

I just visited K-Mart, Rundle Mall in Adelaide. The 32 Gb drive is available in store and scans $29. I couldn't get it for $16 after refering to the K - Mart catalog.

    • Thanks for the info saved me a drive to Magill, guess its not valid for SA.
For those disappointed it not being USB3, I have one and it might as well be USB2 compared to my other USB3 flash drives.

  • I need a very short USB drive to plug in my car audio, minimum is 8GB, anyone got any recommendation?

  • The 16gb version is $8 at my Kmart, they are USB2 and slow.

Bought two of them, as they are good for dumping content onto whilst you can leave the computer to finish the task.

    • Yeah, takes around 30 mins to write and 24 mins to read it all.

Bought 2 at Pagewood, 7 left on shelf.

  • Got one!

This thing is physically huge. It's almost twice the size of my Toshiba USB and is wide enough that it blocks off the USB port beside it. Bit annoying, even if it is massive storage for cheap.
