Wow that's a much bigger discount than usual. Thanks OP.

Still checkout Booko first- even with the discounts, Abebooks, book depositary still might be cheaper.

Sad - that local retailers need this much of a discount off their prices to remain competitive.

Yup, always worth checking booko first.

I have found that bookworld usually has the best prices for Australian cookbooks though. e.g. Donna Hay New Classics is $19.13 after discount is applied. Bookworld is already the cheapest for this book even before applying the coupon code.

You are sh11ting me!! Spent $500 on school textbooks, mainly at Bookworld only 2 nights ago! I had my citizen + another 10% off code. 30% would have been awesome!

For my kids books, Abebooks was always too expensive, depository was competitive but they rarely had the book in stock. Booko was handy, bought a few from different places.

  • bugger - I placed a bookworld order not 2 hrs ago…

Beware of Bookworld. I have experienced that even though their website shows "In Stock" for a particular item, they may not necessarily have it and have to put an order in to their interstate supplier. This means that the item is still not shipped even after 2 weeks and they do not have a phone number to call. Just have to send a message online (their website or their facebook page) and hope for the best. In my case, they finally refunded me the money but had wasted 2 weeks for nothing. I have had better experience with book depository UK and their shipping is REALLY fast. An item would normally be shipped 1 or 2 days after ordering and takes about 2 weeks or less to arrive.

If Bookworld is REALLY cheap compared to others, it would be a good idea to send BookWorld a message to confirm REAL STOCK before putting in an order. Could avoid a lot of waiting time….

    • I've had the same experience, not a fan of Bookworld's shipping times or their customer service. I had to resort to Facebook to get a response, they didn't bother replying through their official support channel.

    • Same here, I bought something that was in stock, the web page said it should be dispatched within 2-3 working days, but actual dispatch date is still showing as to be completed.

I emailed them and got a response it they were ordering from the supplier etc, and that I could cancel if I want.

In the end I got the book 30 days after ordering (longer than book depository dispatch from UK or wherever)

Good bargain, if you don't mind the wait

    • In my case, it was a month and a half of waiting on an "In stock" item. No correspondence. Eventually, had to chase them down for a refund.

    • 2 weeks? Ha!

I ordered something on the 27th of October 2013. Status says 'Ready to Ship - typically received by 21/11/2013'

Funnily enough, I tried to buy this book through Bookworld in October 2012 (it was the 26th, was a bit weird when I noticed) and waited over a month before they cancelled it. Their supplier obviously don't have it in stock AT ALL, yet it's been on the website as 'NOT IN STOCK - GENERALLY SHIPPED IN 3-5 WEEKS' the whole time.

I'd forgotten about it, so thanks for the reminder cheaparse! Will be getting onto that right now. Sorry about the life story, folks!

  • Damn i bought ccnp book two days ago :(

i just checked a book on booko; their price for bookworld was $10 cheaper than the price i come up with before the discount, so maybe they've jacked up their usual prices…

    • That's exactly what they did. Nasty!

      • I'm not saying they haven't, but you're guessing. It's possible the book you were after happens to have run out at one supplier they source and is dearer at a second supplier now being sourced coincidentally in time with this sale.

I don't know how it works with bookworld, but on bookdepository prices fluctuate fairly regularly - sometimes quite dramatically.

For my part, i'm looking at a range of hardcovers to take advantage of this bookworld deal (between $30 and $105). None of them have had their pre discount prices jacked up.

        • Too much of a coincidence. Especially since in my case the price remains quite exactly the same after applying the usual 10% discount codes or now this 30% one.

And it is more than just one book that is affected, Sweet3st reported a hike of $10, I saw one of $54.

If it quacks like a duck…

Maybe their margins for books from some suppliers are not high enough to allow them to discount books by 30%, but then they should not advertise "30% off all books" - that is dishonest, unethical and can be considered fraud.

  • Thanks OP.
Bought Harry Potter Page to Screen: The Complete Filmmaking Journey for $56 rather than the RRP of $110 at Dymocks! Just praying they package it well.

  • Thanks!

  • I recently had an order with Bookworld and the items were sent from US.. took around 2 weeks.

  • Thanks for the deal. bought 2 David McRaney books. Wish i knew about booko first, but still got a pretty good deal. Cheers

Thank you got some Lego books for the kids. Kept getting an error using Paypal so tried a different computer using credit card and eventually it went through ;)

  • sigh stupid deals leading to me spending yet more money on books… Having said that I bought two Star Wars books at half the price of Book Depository, so pretty good!

  • Great post, but I wish it included CDs.

  • Website would not let me place my order for 5 books using paypal - I kept getting error message 'The totals of the cart item amounts do not match order amounts.' Works with credit card though. Thanks OP!

Bookworld are frauds. I'll probably dob them in to the ACCC for it.

There is one particularly expensive book that I have been holding off so far, waiting for a special. When I saw this discount I thought: great, finally time to buy.

Turns out that Bookworld increased the price by exactly the difference between the usual 10% discount code and this 30% code.

The price increase happened today, I checked booko and at first they showed 13 hour old prices that were exactly as I remembered them from the past - then a refresh and the new high price shows (booko includes the 10% member's discount, but no other discounts).

Don't get fooled into buying anything from Bookworld during this "sale" unless you are sure you get the best deal (check booko!).

  • Thanks OP! Got a Lego Friends book for my daughter and a box of Pantone postcards for $26. Bargain!

  • Solid deal. Got some Dr Seuss books amazingly cheap.

  • Thanks, OP. Got the hardbound books I wanted cheaper!

Here's the proof in case anyone cares:

Bookworld price before the start of this "sale": $186.29
    http://imgur.com/YkzLYgW

Bookworld price after the start of this "sale": $240.29
    http://imgur.com/QnGnBPx

I don't believe in coincidences and I doubt this is the only book it happened to. Just vote negative to hide the inconvenient truth again - Bookworld are frauds!

If anyone has a link showing the details of this "Sale" on the Bookworld website please let me know so I can report them to the ACCC. Based on an ozBargain post alone that would be impossible for anyone who did not personally receive the email the OP quoted.

    • The CDs I have been keeping an eye on are now $2 dearer too.

    • You're probably right, just not on every product. I know the ones I bought are significantly cheaper than anywhere else, Book Depository etc included, but if you have evidence of wrongdoing then definitely take it to consumer protection of the ACCC.

      • Well, the price is back to $186.29. Too much of a coincidence.

Unfortunately I can't open a case with the ACCC. While I have all the evidence I need about the prices they charged on different days, I don't have any proof that there ever was a sale. I did not receive that email and I did not see anything about it on the bookworld website.

Yes, there is this post, but that would at best be hearsay…
