We recommend you purchase extra carbonating bottles so that you will always have different SodaStream flavours in the fridge!

But the carbonating bottles don't have any flavour…

Note, there are actually two different units on sale, the Dynamo with a 12 syrup trial pack and one without. The one without has a 60l CO2 tank, as opposed to 40l in the trial pack.

Both are the same price, so it's up to you which way you go.

Oh, an carbonating white wine works better than you might expect…

    • Oh, an carbonating white wine works better than you might expect…

Domaine Chandon have been doing it for decades…

      • really, i thought Chandon was Méthode Traditionnelle ?

        • which is just another way of carbonating wine…

        • nope. In Méthode Traditionnelle yeast is used in a second fermentation to carbonate the drink. not you CO2 canister.

        • a second fermentation to carbonate the drink.

          so you agree…

        • yes but not with a carbonation device as you may have implied. ;). And any wine maker will stress this point cuz machine carbonated wines are cheap and usually crap.

        • as you may have implied.

          no I didn't…

Carbonated water is for tryhards or europeans.

    • how about you dont buy it and leave the deal for those that want it buy it? whether they are tryhards or europeans, why does it matter?

  • So how much are the CO2 cylinders anyway and how long do they last? Our house prefers to drink Sparkling Water so we must be Tryhards or Europeans so we buy the bog standard Coles mineral water for 7c per 1.25L. Ignoring the ability to add flavours, how long would it take for a Sodastream setup like this to pay itself back just for making plain Sparkling Water?

    • Coles mineral water for 7c per 1.25L

      That's cheap !!!

    • around $19 to swap. Seriously. 7c per 1.25l? are you sure its that cheap? it doesnt sound right. I used to buy soda water for more like 80c/1.25L

      • Sorry! TYPO, doh! 75c per 1.25L

      • So if it's $19 for the CO2 then I'd need to get more than 31.6L (25 x 1.25L Bottles of Coles Soda Water @ 75c = $19) out of the SodaStream to make the gas alone worthwhile. Is this possible? I'm not having a dig, I really do want to know.

        • @SteveAndBelle Id say yes. When i bought my sodastream i remember doing the maths and found that it was definitely cheaper. That was 2 years ago so i dont remember the numbers. But the added benefit is you dont have to carry all those bottles from coles.

Soda water tastes like ass. If you plan to replace your mineral water with tap + soda stream, make sure you try it first.

Anyhoo, as discussed, a 60l tank is $19.95. Assuming you get like an 50%+ efficiency, you will recoup a tiny amount of principal each time.

The thing is - it's like fifty bucks to buy. That's less than a round of drinks these days. So it isn't like its going to affect your life either way.

And while you are unlikely to ever save a meaningful amount of money, there is
      - the 'not running out of bubbles water on a sunday morning with a massive hangover' factor
      - the 'not dragging home 12kgs of bottles from the supermarket every week' factor, and
      - the 'not being a jerk to the environment' factor

      • Yes, agree with all above factors. Thanks for the advice!

  • agreed more like 79c for 1.25L soda water

If you are serious about soda water - I would suggest getting a freedom adapter or something similar. Kegking sell the adapter for $90 (bottom of the page) http://www.kegking.com.au/gasbottlesandregulators.html - you have to call to order (they are awesome - next day delivery)

Once you have the adapter get yourself a 2.4 or 6kg gas bottle and have that under your kitchen bench - you can even get them 2nd hand off ex home-brew guys

    Steps to follow
    1) filtered water from the fridge (chilled water has the best bubble absorption)
    2) Gas up 1 liter in your soda-stream
    - Enjoy

Repeat 4 times a day for over a year
(a 6kg gas bottle is around for $48)

  • This thing doesn't taste good according the review. Don't waste your money.

    • Whoa, I think she's been drinking the syrup alone! Eek.

      • She needs a good dentist…

  • kind to the planet too

Kind to whatever planet the company owners are living on. Different thing for you, me and everything else on earth.

If you drink alot of soft drink, theres a whirlpool thread on a way to connect up large industrial tanks to the sodastream, that last all year. Makes it muuch cheaper. Be aware that they use a nonfood safe oil in those tanks, so its not without its risks.

    edit:rubix beat me to it

  • I remember putting milk in one as a teenager. Very interesting experience.

is fun and easy to use for you, your family and friends and kind to the planet too.

Made by Palestinians in enslaved conditions in Israeli owned factories on stolen land apparently.
