  • Excellent value!

This is better than Dell's previous deal for this model, which had a 2.6Ghz i7, conventional 750Gb 5400rpm HDD and 8Gb RAM for $1199. The hybrid HDD is especially good. I'm actually a little jealous, I would have totally paid an extra $100 for these upgrades.

2.6 kg is a bit hmmmm

I must be missing something, this looks about the regular price.

    • Regular price for the base model is $1499, the model described above is about $1799.

You can also get an additional 8% using coupon code T44C$FM76S$PWG which brings the total to $1,103.08 :)

    • Coupons don't stack with cash off models…just confirmed it by trying this one and it doesn't work.

    • Don't forget cashback sites. ;)

EDIT: Wait a minute… this deal is already going through a cashback site. OP, you're not allowed to post affiliate links like this. Mods, feel free to take away my -neg vote once link once been edited to direct link.

      • I agree! I mentioned it further down ;)

With the Clevo bargain, I thought I'd share my table…
(Where possible, I have attempted to make the models equal)

… For me, the Clevo (without the OS, HDD and RAM upgrades (~$300!) included above) seems the best value. Especially considering the extra inch/resolution LCD and GPU, yet only marginally larger dimensions/weight.
Yes, they are very different (13-15.6") ultrabooks, and yes I have highlighted the bits I find 'the best'… But hopefully this is helpful to someone else.

    • Hard to compare as each are different sizes.

I would go the Dell purely for the 3 Year Pro Support (onsite).

You missed a couple things in your table:
      - The Dell and Clevo both have touchscreens, which is an important feature
      - The Dell has a 1TB SSHD hybrid drive, and costs $1299 not $1450
      - For some reason you've bolded the Horize GT745M instead of the more powerful GT750M, and you've rated the 14" screen of the Horize above the 15" of the Dell.

As you've pointed out, these are very different machines you're comparing. There's no way I'd be calling either of the Windows machines "ultrabooks" based on their size, weight and discrete GPUs. Also, the price difference is massive - the MBA costs 50% more than the Dell.

      • I believe he added the 3 year pro support option to make at least that equivalent (as opposed to the other specs)

      • I can't edit it anymore :(

        Regardless,
        - I agree with the touchscreen comment.
        - I had to add additional items to bring it into line with the others (roughly)
        - And yes, highlighted the wrong column there. GT750M FTW,
Also wish I added backlit keyboard too (Dell and Apple).

      • Anyone used a touch screen laptop? I'm still trying to figure out where it's of value, it's 10x more effort than a mouse.

Touch screen monitor sure - great for point of sale machines and the like. On a laptop though?

    • Very useful table man, those are more or less the laptops I'm interested in (MBP instead of Air). Could you direct me to your source that derived the Dell battery life? Cheers

  • This laptop still seems to be plagued by wifi issues, indicated by the reviews on dell. Great deal, but I'm holding back. I + this deal before checking the wifi issue out by the way.

  • Need more discounts

  • Namely for a Dell XPS 15 :)
