Worthington BMW Free BBQ + Refreshments Every Saturday 11am - 2pm (NSW - Kariong)

30

Hello fellow Ozbargainers!

Every Saturday Worthington BMW (CNR CENTRAL COAST HWY & KANGOO ROAD, Kariong 2250) has a free BBQ / Sausage Sizzle with free refreshments; tea, coffee and hot chocolate. I take my wife and kids every weekend out for a lunch treat and enjoy sitting in the plush leather seats of the beamers =)!

The manager told me there would be an extra special BBQ this Saturday as it's the Australia Day weekend.

I hope to see some fellow Ozbargainers there joining in the community spirit.

Cheers,

Pandabargain

PS I posted this last night and subsequently removed it because I wanted to get permission from Worthington's Manager first and it's all good!

  • I take my wife and kids every weekend out for a lunch treat and enjoy sitting in the plush leather seats of the beamers

Every weekend? I do hope that you're a regular customer of theirs…

    • My father-in-law gets his BMW serviced there.

I can see his kid's autobiography in 20 years time: We were so hard up that on Saturdays our dad would take us to the BMW dealership for free snags and air conditioning. :)

Wife probably just tags along to eye all the men actually buying Beamers…

      careful, OP. lol

  • +5

Free sausage and onion on white bread = free. Telling your partner you dropped 75K on a BMW = priceless.

  • I've always been curious about why some car dealerships do this. I can't imagine too many potential customers are swayed to buy a BMW because they got a free snag and Coke. Bit of fun for the staff maybe? Anyone care to shed some light?

    • +1

Might have to do with showing that their dealership is accessible to everyone. Get people in and looking around that might not have even considered buying a bmw.

Obviously trying to attract the bogan market who would usually drop $100k on a HSV or a Ford..

If you're dumb enough to spend that amount on a riced up taxi then maybe a chilled can of Fanta is all it will take to get you to buy something else.

      • +1

@pmupsinep, best post of the week. Congratulations. I've been wondering what knuckle dragging bogans were going to stupidly go into debt for when the Australian Holden and Ford FINALLY die.

Wish I could make this quote my sig lol

Because the sales staff will do anything, to get a "lead"… This is but one of the many brilliant tactics in their armory of genius.

These activities are to have people into the dealership and browse around. Obviously those BBQ is not the bait, it is the BMW cars are the bait to lure the buyer's emotions attachment out and buy the car. A good sales person can create alot of emotion attachment for the customer to the car. I work in BMW and this is what we do everyday. When a customer's financial status can afford one and really emotionally attached to the beautiful car in front of them, they will buy. The customer maybe never thought of buying a BMW, maybe they have always been buying Holden, Ford or Toyotas. Because they never thought about it before and the BBQ activity created a opportunity for them to see a car in a fresh where they can sit, feel, touch, smell and test drive, that created emotion and desire to buy one.

      • You really need to have a look at your verb tenses and pronouns. Just saying that to help, not be a smart-ass :)
Might help you sell more BMWs.

I know that is my weakness. English is not my native language.

        • :)

        • No English no prob. Nowadays money talks.

      • That explains a lot. so I guess I will wait for the next Lambo BBQ day…

God for one second I thought I was reading FREE BMW!

  • lookout!!!!! there will be ozbargainers with a sudden interest in bmerz now……havoc on the highway

Who can justify buying a BMW? I just spat coffee all over my Herman Miller Aeron at the thought of someone spending so much money on a car

        comment of the day :)

This is odd….folks who flock to free BBQs are less likely to buy a BMW and more likely a Great Wall or Chery.

    • Not exactly true but majority are. But i had customer who looking at top of the range Hyundai i30 hatch and she drove past our dealership and stumble across a Demo BMW 116i. When she took it for test drive and found out only a few grand difference in price, she bought it straight away.

      • Which BMW dealer do you work for? You can PM if you want to keep it private. I'm buying one this week and wouldn't mind giving you the business (commission) if you can negotiate a good deal for me.

If anyone else knows any good BMW dealers/reps in or around Sydney please let me know. Thanks.

        • +1

          are you in Sydney? From my personal experience with buying 2 bmws;
Parra: Good Sales people but mixed bag. regardless of who you get, it was never the best price for me and one of them play mind games.. (but I bought my first bmw there. regret it)
Canterbury: Went there twice. Decent sales people and surprisingly honest in one meeting. Willing to negotiate even with new and popular models (didn't buy one from there though)
Sydney (Rushcutters Bay): Had best price through coporate deal. It was better than I thought I would get. (but I didn't buy from there)
Chatswood: I really like the Sales people there. Very Professional so I ended up buying my 2nd one at Chatswood. I had Sydney dealer VS Chatswood. Chatswood almost Matched Sydney price and threw in some perks. The sale person I had moved on the Merc now, but her manager was still there (well ~1.5 years ago anyway) and I had dealings with him. His name is Charles Barron and I recommend him but go to Sydney or Canterbury first to sus out the price.

LOL, man walks into BMW dealer asking "are you prawnhead"?

        • +1

No, i have a nickname called "Chopstick" cause I'm Chinese. Most customer will not remember names if they just casually walk in or phone inquiry so I've asked all my customer to ask for Chopstick if they cannot remember my name when they come in.

        • Thanks superbass! Really appreciate you taking the time to type this out.

Re the first 3 dealerships, it's freaky though I echo your sentiments completely and felt the same way at each! Wasn't surprised that Rushcutters has the best corporate deal given proximity to city and therefore probably more corporate volume.

The current summer sales drive promo gives you 5 years/80,000km free service instead of the corporate plan's 4yr/60k, so tossing up whether to lose other corporate 'benefits' (which don't seem like much) and instead getting the summer sales drive promo. Guess it will ultimately boil down to price. I can probably negotiate the price down at least as much as what the corporate discount would be anyway.

I would be interested in knowing if you think the corporate benefits here in AU are worth it? Have you been invited to any events?

I haven't been to Chatswood but imagine I would feel the same way as you did. Hopefully I'm about to close a deal with a BMW ozbargainer as I type this, but if not, I will be in touch with Charles. Thanks again.

        • You're welcome. I didn't know about the lastest summer deal but It looks good. Having said, I've been getting few emails from my bmw dealer for past few months about 1,X1 and 3 so I think they are keen to sell those models.

Corporate deal is helpful because you are starting the negotiation from the reduced price (but you could get the same/better price with non-corporate if the dealer is keen to sell) It is definitely worth it if you are buying a popular make/model where the dealers don't have to give you discount to sell one (although heard from a Merc dealer last year that A class or CLA have min. 6 months waiting period and give next to zero discount & don't honor corporate perks)

As you might know already, for bmw corp,
          - delivery fee is reduced to ~$1,600/1,800 instead of $2500 or $3000
          - Corporate pricing ~3% less than RRP prices
          - Door to Door pick up on your servicing
But other that, I didn't get any other surprise perks. Have been invited to new Mini and new 3 series launches when those came out but don't think it due to corporate program.

With Audi, got Iron Man movie tickets + popcorn as hidden perks… $50 worth haha
With Merc, got 50% off Mel/Syd airport valet parking fees incl comp car wash.
          Anyway, good luck.

        • And if there were to be another Chinese salesperson?

          Chopstick and Cleaver?

        • If you're after a 3 series (F30), have a look at the last few pages of the following to get an idea of F30 prices paid by Aussie forum members…

          http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=675348&page=2…

        • +2

Thanks again superbass (and 1bug for pointing out F30 prices). Guess I've been spoiled by Merc's corporate program overseas. Last time I got invited for hot laps through simulated obstacle courses with rally drivers they had flown in, followed by a self drive of the SLS AMG which was amazing. Over here the airport valet park and wash perk you mentioned has been v handy as I'm always running late to the airport.

Re the A Class, if anyone is after a good deal I recommend G Brothers Mona Vale, they've done corporate rates for my family and good service too, though there is a waiting list.

Anyway back to the BMW! I called up our friend prawnhead here earlier in the week, and after a short conversation the deal was done! I already knew what I wanted and how much I wanted to pay for it. Hopefully collecting the vehicle next week. Went in just to meet him on Tuesday, a top bloke. Very easy going and felt comfortable talking to him. No "high pressure" pitches.

If anyone is in the market for a great price on a BMW, I can wholeheartedly recommend Andrew "Chopstick" Lau at Canterbury BMW. Give him a call on (02) 8038 7888 or email [email protected]

He was able to get me the right car at an awesome price with no fart-assing about (rare in the world of car sales where hard negotiations can take hours depending on your 'tightness') Don't get me wrong, I bargained hard, but Andrew knew resistance was futile as I was a fellow ozbargain "professional" ;)

Anyway thanks again all and especially OP Pandabargain - if not for this free BBQ thread I wouldn't have asked and would probably still be car hunting :)

        • @ccrap

          which bmw model?

perhaps post it as a deal?

or the receipt to price match?

and how long did it take to tap your ing card 1000 times?

          :)

I would go, but I might be mistaken for a BMW driver.

  • Wish they would fix the Broken sign out the front…not a good look and its been like that for years.
