Runtastic Pro Free on iTunes for iOS and and Free on Android Now Too

800

Hi

I saw that this app has been reduced from $4.99 to .99 @ Google Play and checked ITunes to see that it is listed as the "Free App of the Day".

Maybe someone with the App of the Day app on iOS could comment if there are any requirements to unlock the Pro version of Runtastic.

The Android price drop is not listed as a sale as such so not sure how long that one will last.

Cheers

EDIT: As per ewanw this is free now for Android as well through App of the Day just use promo code "appoftheday". Link updated to free version that you download and use promo code with

Purchased the Android Pro version but then read you basically need Gold subscription via their website, the pro version sucks, barely does anything and is basically just a GPS tracker, speed & elevation log not a whole lot else.

    • you know any better alternatives on android? i use the pro version on iphone, it is much better than those free ones.

Endomondo is excellent IMHO . Not sure what it costs as I payed 10c for it on sale . Pretty sure even the free version is quite ood .

        • I also use Endomondo on both iOS and Android. Runtastic never really interested me for some reason.

      • Strava

    • I agree. I got the pro version as well. It's a load of crap.

yes you need the Gold version ($20 for a year if you get it early) to work in with a FitBit pedometer. Something you would think would be in a Pro version. Notice also you pay again for training plans even with Gold. Bugg*r that, you get it with Endomondo Pro all included. Runtastic will need to be much better to bother with.

    .99c

less than 1c for an app !!

  • I just use nike running and that does everything I need - basically track time and distance and splits over Google maps. Also does elevation. Not sure how paid apps add anything to it other than things like gamefication ala zombies run.

Runtastic on special for $.99 at Windows phone also
people have been recommending adidas miCoach I have not used either

    And it is FREE

    • +1 micoach. Only one that gives extensive training plans, all for free, I also use runkeeper concurrently with it so I can have access to the gpx files.

I saw that runtastic was free today on Android and so went straight to typing 'appoftheday' into the promo code section and it upgraded to pro for free…

  • Any diff btw Runkeeper and Runtastic?

    • Only real differences with these apps are personal preference and how many of your friends may be on either. Both sync to MFP. RT's webpage is full of ads and to check friends in the ios app, it's actually a link to the webpage/safari rather than being an in app thing which is messy rather than a problem. The rest of the RT app is nice, and it syncs well with the other RT workout apps (pushup/pullup etc). I still have/use them both on my phone though personally prefer micoach (free training plans) and runkeeper (clean/simple).

I have used Runkeeper, Endomondo, and Runtastic and find Runtastic Pro the best.

To get the most out of these apps (not just Runtastic), a yearly subscription is recommended although not essential

Worth getting Runtastic Pro whilst it is free.

    • I came to the same conclusion.

However I feel Runtastic have been going downhill over the past year. I recently let my Gold "subscription" lapse and they started to automatically send legal threats to retrieve "owed" payment.

I had the unfortunate experience of turning off my ad blocker when dealing with this subscription nonsense and was bombarded by a million intrusive ads.

Haven't used the App recently, but it usually works reliably.

  • Why does a fitness app need access to my camera, microphone, running app info, etc.?

    • Whilst on a run, you can actually take photos around you which is then uploaded and then placed on the map of your run. Great for highlighting memorable sights etc. If you don't want this, just refuse the app permission but I find the function actually useful.

Runtastic is a lot more than just a 'fitness' app with its social integration eg you can cheer other people's efforts in real time (if they let you in their privacy settings) - its all about motivation

  • Can't seem to get pro for free on android…

    • Go to Settings then select Enter Promotion Code. Type appoftheday and click Redeem Code.

      • Thanks :)

  • This will go well with my Galaxy Gear. Thanks OP.

    • I think it's free for Galaxy Gear, it was with mine anyway.

      • Unfortunately Gear app only syncs with the Runtastic Pro app ($4) from Samsung Apps :(

  • Been using Runkeeper for a few years now, but thought i'd give this a try anyway :-)
    Thanks OP!

  • Still free on iOS
