$310 delivered. Brand new. Not sure how reliable the ebay seller is though because he only registered on ebay today.

Ebay seller that registered today and has no feedback selling 8 televisions way below the competition? Something doesn't feel right…

      • +3

and thats where paypal comes in!

        • +1

Does PayPal protection work for sellers without feedback? Years ago they only used to only cover verified sellers with positive feedback above a certain percentage. I stopped using eBay after the screwed me around one too many times, so not sure what the current protection policy is.

        • Looks like the listing has been removed now for some reason.

lol. Oh well. Maybe it was too good to be true.

        • +1

Didn't see any mention of that in the PayPal T&Cs but did just see this forum thread.

This uses the chip (Mstar306) used in 2010 models of Viano. So I guess this is a 2010 model?
    2012 models used Mstar308.

  • Anyone know if the panel is 50hz/60hz/100hz/120hz?
    And 1400:1 contrast ratio doesn't seem great…
Amazing price for the size though

    • 50Hz. You get what you pay for, and be prepared for dead pixels. I bought a viano from DSE earlier this year for $199 and definitely 'you get what you pay".

      • +6

What exactly does 'you get what you pay for' mean? I paid half price for some BluRay movies last week, does that mean they'll send me half the movies? I never really understood what the term meant. Since you used it, maybe you can explain what you think it means.

In my experience when people say 'you get what they pay for' they seem to be referring to a time when they bought something very cheap, but it didn't work well, in which case they they DIDN'T get what they paid for, because it was a faulty product that didn't work. But equally common are people who who paid twice what they should have for something because it had a famous brand name, but the quality was rubbish and the product didn't work. In which case, they still didn't get what they paid for.

It's a very confusing term to use on a bargain website, as the entire point of this website is to get something for less than everybody else pays. Therefore we end up with MORE than we paid for.

'You get what you pay for' seems to be bandied about a lot, a bit like the increasing number of people who say 'I could care less' without realising the saying means the opposite of what they think it does. They're just repeating what other people say, without thinking it through. Maybe somebody can explain what people THINK it means.

I bought three 32" Full HD Soniq LCD TVs in 2011 for $189, they are AWESOME, no dead pixels, very clear picture, work well as computer monitors. In my case I feel I got MORE than what I paid, as many friends paid double or even triple for a similar product, just with a Sony or LG badge. You said 'you get what you pay for' when you bought a Viano, so does that mean it was excellent or poor, or what? Honestly, I don't know.

Wow….u know u can't get back the time u took 2 write that rant right?

          Pay 4 sh!t, get sh!t- simple ;-)

Thanks for the well thought out reply. Nice to know your keyboard works 100%, and good to know you're not trolling for the sake of trolling.

I got what I paid for $199 when I purchased that viano 32" TV. What I got when I paid $199 was a 32" Full HD screen, a plastic bezel surround for the TV, a swivel stand, a HD TV tuner, 3x HDMI inputs, a remote control, a USB port, a pair of speakers built in, a owners manual, a power cord, built in timer.On/off switch.

Now, for an additional $200 I might have been able to purchase another 32" LED TV from a known brand like LG, Samsung or Soniq. For that additional price the "additional" features for the money I paid would be:

          • 100% working screen free of defective pixels.
          • Program guide that updates faster than a 486 computer
          • A remote control that will work when aimed at the TV between 170 degrees, rather than 20 degrees direct aim. That's if it likes what button I press.
          • Speakers that sound 'real' rather than ones that sound like it's from an old scrapheap 1W PC speaker.
          • A TV that does not suffer audio synchronisation issues for Free to air broadcast and HDMI input.
          • Headphones or Composite Audio output so I can bypass the internal speakers to my hifi instead.
        • +3

Well said Greenie. It is about how much you invest in research not what you pay.

        • Thanks for the detailed reply! I definitely wasn't trolling, just curious.

This may make you feel better - My brother's $1,600 Sony 42" suffers from most of the same problems you describe (no dead pixels, but the sound is pretty poor, and the TV sync is not always 100% (but that's probably a problem with the TV station, not the TV itself, I hear a lot of expensive DVRs have the same problem) and the TV guide is very slow to update - slower than the 42" Soniq $399 TV I bought last year. He does have an audio output for headphones/speakers, but would you believe it only works for the tuner so there's no HDMI pass-through!

So you both ended up with something that has issues, except he paid a LOT more. That's why I find 'you get what you pay for' so confusing. I rarely get any satisfaction from spending more than necessary, and in fact feel ripped off when an expensive item performs the same or worse than a cheap item. Maybe the expensive item will last longer or take a beating from rougher use, but it depends on the product.

I bought a $6 toaster from KMart and it works better than every other toaster I've ever owned! A friend moved overseas and gave me his nearly brand new $120 Cafe Series toaster but it always just underdoes or just overdoes toast. The $6 toaster gets it just right. So, if I paid $6 but he paid $120, but mine works better, who got what they paid for?

I can understand many people think it means just paying more means getting something better. But that's not always the case. Maybe it means, paying more to buy something more suitable to your needs? Thanks for your views, it's something I'll think about more later.

You might need to understand the difference between literal and figurative.

  • @donga100 thanks for posting this deal, it's got me thinking! I bought a 42" 3D Soniq factory refurb last year for $399 and it's been excellent. My wife wants a bigger TV though for the living room, this might do the job. The base looks a bit classier than some of the other cheaper TVs.

    Very tempting!!

    • +1

I hope you were planning to wait until the morning to buy it because the price just dropped another $40 thanks to capped shipping. ;)

Not sure I share your opinion on the base though. Doesn't look anything special to me. :(

  • Bought one, thanks for the tip. Let's hope it's alright.

bought one, I have the 32" vanio also (from the 199 deal) and i am happy with it. only downside would be speakers and remote IR not so great.

easily fixed with foxtel + surround sound which this one will be for :)

thanks for posting, I think this deserves way more thumbs up its a crazy price for close to 50"

  • Hi guys,

Sorry, this will probably be a dumb question (I tried to do some research on Google but still have no idea), but does the PVR or TimeShift allow you to pause, rewind and play live TV? My parents are looking for a TV about this size but they want one that they can rewind live TV and ALSO record shows.

    Thanks :)

    • Not sure, but Viano is based in Australia so you could probably just give them a call and ask. 1800 330 064

  • Bought one. Thanks OP. Hopefully Works. Ordered this deal because my Sony Bravia 40'' $499 Boxing day order has been cancelled by Sony.

  • +1

    Got mine today.
It's definitely not on par with a Samsung, a Sony or an LG. On top of this, the remote control and the EPG setup are not very good at all.
Other than that, I'm really happy. Very good for $400!
