Non smart?
Yes, not smart.
Would rather dumb.
This is not a smart tv right? I think the sony 50" is better value as it even has wifi buildin.
Nothing is as smart as having HTPC plugged in. 'Smart TV's' are just marketing gimmicks. Put in a HTPC and there's no need to touch any 'Smart feature'.
Yes but for a mere $50 difference, wouldn't you think it's worth paying to get most of the commonly used feature build into the tv rather than having a few other things to tinkle with?
$50 gives you wifi adaptor and smart feature (or some of your HTPC feature).
I have a Smart TV, but considering a HTPC or Media Streaming Device of some sort for the simple fact I really don't like the interface and don't do anything except watch videos from a media server or play my xbox.
Without plex no tv is worth getting
Would you be able to give me the model number of the Sony tv you are talking about please?
Sony 50" for $747

That is a great price, good find OP.
Seems almost the same as the sony
Both 50hz 2xHdmi
Told my in law to wait for one week, just one week without TV how bad this is? Bought it last week from BingLee $838, could have saved $142, so stubborn, well, its not my money anyway …
lolz talking about in law.. I kinda feel for you
if you want to see a real difference - make sure you get the 100/200 Hz models. Then the true crispness of the samsung TV shines through.
I mainly watch free to air, so will a 100/200Hz make any difference?
I was wondering on this too, BUT showing different TVs to in law (elderly), they can't even tell, all they care is value and size, the cheaper with bigger screen size, of course it has to be a branded one …
Matter of taste.. First thing I do is disable the "motion flow" features because it turns any decent movie into a soap opera!
FYI, I picked one of these up this morning, using my $200 JB voucher from Coke Rewards towards it, from Werribee Plaza JB.
TV ticketed at $896, checked with a guy there and it scanned up at $796, showed him the pic from here and he said some stores do TVs cheap at their own discretion.
Having said that he was more than happy to so the TV at that price, sorted.Nice price, but with only 2 x HDMI ports and lack of HDMI-CEC, I wouldn't get it personally.
Great deal. Beauty with samsung only tv that will play any codec dont even need an htpc for file viewing. My sammy series 6 lcd has never not played a file only issue ive had is with subtitles. Luv samsung pq even if only 50hz snd couple hdmi. For price and size to play every codec ftw
Anyone gotten JB in Syd to pricematch this?
where was this?
