Full list of sale fares can be found here. Good prices to Japan, Korea and China too.

  • ^BIG DEALS are available in "Q" and "N" Class (Economy Class). "Q" Class not available for departures from 3 February 2014 - 27 April 2014.

Too bad not able to get miles for those tickets.

    • +1

Q fares seem to earn some miles for CX's Asia Miles but definitely none for QFF.

For <$700 SYD-HKG the loss of miles is not so important. Sometimes CX is over $1k and STILL no miles on QFF.

      • The SC's however can be pretty decent. 60SC return to HKG alone ex-SYD and then whatever you get for connecting. The SC's can put you close to 1/3rd qualifying for Silver status. May not mean much to many out there but to some it could mean a lot!

  • The prices don't seem to bad, but I'd rather fly direct to Bangkok or Manila then via Hong Kong.

If you want a Hong Kong stopover its great…

    • T&C: Stopovers: Not permitted.

so no point fly via Hong Kong.

      • This.

I wanted to go Bne-Yangon & their sale quote was more than TG's market price.

        • No stopovers

That blows then unless you don't care about not having a direct flight or you are only flying to Hong Kong…

For mine I'd rather spend $200 more on a direct flight than have to change flights and potentially wait up to 24 hours in the changeover.

  • Are these deals available for one-way trip from China or HK to Brisbane?

    • +1

No. One way tickets will book you into fully flexible fares, which some times can cost more than a business class ticket (which seems to be 90% of the time with CX).

      • I priced a one way from Tokyo to Syd - fully flex. Converts to about $4600 (and same price over that period, not just one day).

        Ridiculous!

        • Might as well book a J return for that price. Or at the very least just book the Y return and throw away the return leg.

        • Book Y return and then cancel the return leg. Even on non-refundable fares you should still be able to get the unused taxes back.

  • Got a great price for DXB to BNE via Hong Kong, very nice thanks.

  • Good prices for SYD<->HKG.

  • Wish I didn't book the Qantas flights now. What's the cheapest way to change my qantas flights to another date, and buy these flights?

    • +1

Contact QF or the travel agent you bought the tickets from and pay the fees and any fare differences.

  • Silly question but these prices include 20kg baggage correct?

    • +3

      That is correct.
20kg for adults and 10kg for infants.

  • I wish they had a filter for prices, I'm looking for a trip thats roughly 5 - 10 months long from melbourne to hk return, doesn't matter when depart/return just has to be cheap (under 800)

  • Bought two ticket to Taipei, $840.34 for lowest price they can offer.

  • Overnight flights MELB-HKG-MELB never on special! Damn it!

    • I did a dummy booking around the end of sep 2014 which had departure from Melb at 3:30pm, flying overnight and arriving about 9:30am. The return flight departed at 11:30pm and arrived at 1:00pm. Both qualify for me as "overnight".

      • Takes approx 9.5 hours to fly MELB to HK, how can you dept Melb at 3:30pm and arrive at 9:30am?
Return flight 11:30pm is via Sydney.

        • … and this is what happens when I don't look closely on the booking page and then post a couple of hours later from my phone. I've redone the dummy booking and you're right, I'm wrong.

Flight to HK was 09:35 duration which is where I got the "arrive at 9:30" error. Actually departs MEL in the morning and arrives at 3:30pm. Sorry about that. Mea culpa.

I was aware of the SYD stopover on the return but at least it was overnight which is the criterion I thought was most important for you.

Doesn't seem to be s good a deal from Hong Kong to other places at least for August when I will be there. Will keep checking later.

Is it possible to do multi- city booking

    • +4

Since you travel a lot, care to suggest alternatives? What's the best Australia-Hong Kong fare you've seen? :)

        • -5

lol hehe hohoho you lot are funny :) I'm still not going to tell you.

    • Oh, please share.

Why is Cathay Pacific flights SO EXPENSIVE?

  • Are there any cheap flights for Sydney to the Philippines? I've had a look but all are around $1.4k

  • +1

AUD 755.46 to Japan return that's cheap!

  • This is the cheapest return CX airfares from Australia to Hong Kong so far, very good deal.
Just book 2 return tickets from Melbourne to Hong Kong in May, $654 each,

  • booked last time when they had the same deal for SYD-HK-SYD for only $800 for Easter 2014, this time, same date and flight, now wants $1093, lucky i got that last time, thanx !!!

    • found $870 for easter

  • Super tempting, but I have no idea how our yet to be born baby will be! what if she's a cry baby!

    Oh man!

  • What can you do in Hong Kong for 10 hours with 3 young kids? Would really love to see HK on my way to japan.

    • +2

10 hours isn't a huge amount of time (it'll probably be more like 7 hours once you factor in time at the airport), but HK transport is pretty reliable (take the Airport Express train), and with a bit of planning you should still be able to see a few of the tourist hotspots in that time — such as taking a tram up to The Peak, riding a ferry across Victoria Habour, and a few other things.

If you want to keep things simple (particularly with young kids), Hong Kong Disneyland is a 10-15 minute taxi ride away from the airport. Alternatively, Lantau Island is also nearby.

    • -1

      stopovers not permitted

      • +3

A 10 hour transit between flights does not count as a stopover — a stopover is defined by IATA as being longer than 24 hours. There's nothing preventing you from leaving the airport for a little bit of sightseeing.

        • Thanks mate, sounds good. My wife's family live less than an hour from tokyo Disneyland so I definitely don't want to go to the HK version!

Emirates still beats Cathay Pacific on most routes.

  • So am I able to just book a Brisbane-HK return ticket but only use the 'return trip' from HK to Brisbane as I'll need to come back from HK in Feb. Am I allowed to throw away my first trip and keep the second?

    • No. Non-flexible tickets like this need to be flown "in sequence" — if you miss or skip a leg, all subsequent legs on the ticket will be cancelled.

You can get away with throwing away return legs of a ticket, but the first leg will always need to be flown. :)

      • Even with flexible tickets, all the sectors on the ticket need to be flown in order.

        • Even with flexible tickets, all the sectors on the ticket need to be flown in order.

True, but depending on the airline and fare conditions, some flexible tickets do allow you to make sequence changes — even if that ticket is already partly flown — but the fare will generally need to be recalculated and any fare difference paid.

For instance, Lufthansa allows the flight sequence to be changed if you select the appropriate option on their booking form: https://www.lufthansa.com/au/en/Flight-booking

Would you like a flexible flight sequence?
          - I would like to benefit from the best offers and will use my flights in the booked sequence
          - I would like to have the flexibility to change the sequence of my flights

awesome! return flights to shanghai booked for only $742! :-) :-) :-)

  • wanted to go during Easter… but prices are like almost 1k… miss out on the cheap fares! (even though its relatively cheap, I feel it is not a bargain when you compare fares with $657 return)

  • Nice sale. Picked up Sydney -> Tokyo (Haneda) & Taipei -> Sydney for $737 for May!
It'd be hard to find it too much cheaper on a budget carrier; worth the money for a 5-star airline

  • big thank you to the OP, was looking for flights to tokyo in late octobr and was considering some budget airlines, but for this price its a bargain, plus cathy much than some of the other budget airlines.
