Canon EF 70-200mm F/2.8L IS II USM Lens $2199.96

180

I have been watching this for quiet sometime (as well as saving money). This Lens RRP $2699
This website is run by Melbourne Camera house, and their normal price is $2377.64
However reason I post this because it way cheaper than grey import from eBay or DWI or cameraparadise or any other even teds.

You buy from Local you will get 2 years Canon Australia Warranty. Those eBay grey they only state 1 year back to base. And I have bought many things with discountcameras

I don't think this price will stay, because the last time they had only for one day.

During US Black Friday, they had this price for one day and went up next day, however I haggled JB very hard to get unbelievably low price. I cant post receipt due to OZ rules, price match is not bargain hence this price is still good. And I have post in Aust Forum, and afew members contact me ask for proof of receipt which I was happily given a copy to them. Only 1 member manage to get exact same price. other 2 abit higher price.

Good Luck

No rule against posting a receipt afaik

  • Is it eligible with canon cashback promotion?

    • No.. Not on this lens.

  • To anybody who has this lens or similar… do you ever use IS or do you have it turned off?

I have used this lens for a day and found the IS to be very nice. Just wish I could afford it!

I got this lens 3 years ago and I have NEVER turned off IS!!!!!

I know its expensive folks, but this lens is worth it….
It's a big bertha for weight, but it's so full of goodness you wouldnt expect it to be plastic and light.

For portrait photos, its my go to lens for sure…. I cant believe I went so long without it.

Just get approval from the finance minister and buy it, even she'll appreciate the improvement to your photo taking.

    • I have this lens for 2.5 yrs. I never switch off the IS. It's bloody heavy.

I don't understand the purpose of IS on these lenses.
If you're a landscape photographer, then this lens will live strapped to a tripod.
If you're a sports photographer, then IS won't assist in any way, so you'll be better saving $1000 and getting the non-IS.

Anyway, it is an amazing lens - Sharp, fast and quiet, and it's a good price for an australian stock..

    • I found it helps get a bit more light as you can loosen the settings a bit. There are always types of photography that fall between those two extremes.

It's a portrait lens, used by every single (Canon) wedding, engagement and event shooter in history.

      duh.

    • Any lens can benefit from having IS. And if you don't like it, switch it off.

IS is a great help especially as this is a tele, and it can get you 3 - 4 extra stops. Have a look at the You Tube comparison by Matt Granger between the Canon Nikon and Tamron. After 6 months of research I ended up going for the Tamron at $1385 from Camera House Macarthur(george's were doing it for $1399). The Aust. price for the Tamron is very close to grey import pricing and cheaper than some US pricing.

  • For this focal length 70-200 without IS. You have to have tripod or ,monopod to take nice photo or doubling shutter speed amount to freeze the action, unless u have a very steady hand. I find IS is very helpful and useful in many shots special shooting kids and moving subjects.

Using the inverse rule, to shoot at 200mm, you would need a speed of at least 1/200. When using at a wedding for example, low light levels might mean you need to shoot at 1/60, 1/80 etc. The IS will allow you to shoot 2 - 3 stops lower. Thus 1/200 becomes 1/50. Thus IS becomes worth it.

Obviously for brightly lit sport, where you might be shooting at 1/1000 or faster, it is not necessary and can slow the auto-focus down. And whilst I doubt this would be used for landscape unless trying to create stacking effects, it would most likely be used with a tripod anyway, meaning the IS would be best turned off.

  • Mind you, I can highly recommend the Sigma 70-200

Probably get it cheaper elsewhere, but a good lens.

    • Don't get one for canon mount otherwise you will pull your hair due to focus issues.

      • I have one for canon mount and don't have any issues!

  • This website is run by Melbourne Camera house

    michaels actually.

  • Price's gone back up $2377.66

    • That's exact same deal I was looking at during the black Friday sales.
Trouble is you have to do mail-in rebate (need to cut the box where serial and barcodes) and send in for them to mail back AMEX card worth $300

Edit: Oh don't forget our dollars down 0.88 that add up too
According to google conversion $1799 USD = $2031.16 AUD
