Cheapest TV - 55" (139cm) Ultra HD Smart 3D LED LCD TV 55LA9700

    $4999 hmmm.. pricey!

Doesnt the Xboxone play most of its games at 720p, 30FPS because its so underpowered.
But PS4 is running almost every game at 1080P, 60FPS

    • And don't think you can run a 4K game on the new 4K TV. They apparently don't exist.
      http://www.cnet.com.au/confusion-reigns-over-4k-gaming-on-ps…

That model is $3883 delivered from Videpro.

    • +3

As a PS4 owner (not into Xbox these days) I feel I should play devil's advocate and point out that even though the PS3 was more powerful than the 360 it had the lesser multi-platform releases due to the lead platform being the 360. The exclusive PS3 titles though were mind blowing in terms of graphic fidelity. This may very well be the case with the Xbone and at the end of the day who cares, console wars are childish.

      • -3

What makes you think the ps3 was more powerful than the 360? Marketing? The cell processor?

        • +3

Game likes Uncharted, Last of Us, Beyond and God of War shows that the PS3 was more powerful, it was just a major pain in the ass to actually extract that power.
As for the situation with the new gen, it's not really comparable to the 360/PS3 gen since the base architecture of the XBOne/PS4 are very similar. It should be much easier for developers to use the extra grunt of the PS4 as is evident already in games like COD and BF4.
Of course none of this really matters if you prefer the games Microsoft produces compared to the games Sony does, as that is what the decision as to which console you purchase should be based on(unless you only play multiplatform of course).

        • -1

All those games ran at 720p. Looked great, but certainly not any better than the best looking 360 exclusives like Halo, Forza and Gears of War.

        • +2

If you're going to use Forza as an example I could throw Gran Turismo into the equation which unlike Forza ran at 1080p (1280x1080p anyway), included night racing(with day to night transitions) and also weather effects.
On a technical level the PS3 games I listed are more impressive(In terms of effects, AA, shaders etc.), I guess whether that equals more pleasing to the eye is completely subjective.
Still, you're free to have your opinion. :)

        • I'd disagree and state those few PS3 exclusives did look better than the XBox 360 exclusives. I own a XBox 360 but not a PS3.

What better way to show off a 4K TV - with a 720p console.

  • +5

Can get 55LA9650 for $3443 with free delivery from Videopro.

  • +2

No 4k content, no point. Marketing spin to sell panels.

Not to mention the fact that Panasonic / Samsung's best plasmas still outperform all the 4k LEDs anyway.

      • Hmm.. OK. Region B only?

      • +6

They aren't 4k blu rays. They're 1080p compressed from a 4K master. Very minimal difference. Most films are either shot in resolutions roughly 4K, or on film, then digitally converted to 4K masters. Either way, they're converted to 1080p, so the difference isn't going to be all that big.

      • Those are still 1080p.

I think its best to wait for the new HDMI standard to come out that supports 60FPS 4k rez before buying any of these 4k TV's

They are all stuck at 4k, 30FPS on the old HDMI when connected to "anything"

How annoyed are you going to be when next years 4k TV's have HDMI 3.0 and can now run things at 60FPS or more at max 4k rez

    • Can you define what you mean by outperform
I was under the impression this was new tech hence better hardware etc

      Replied to wrong person :)

    • I thought HDMI 2.0 supports 4k at 60FPS? http://www.hdmi.org/manufacturer/hdmi_2_0/

      • +2

        sorry i meant to say HDMI 2.0 comes out… not 3.0 ( typo )

        Current HDMI is at v1.4

Its great for the companies selling these 1st gen 4k TV's though because next year the 2nd gen 4k TV's will be a must have and the 1st gen buyers will all have worthless piles of crap! running everything at maximum 30 FRAMES PER SECOND

Do not buy a 4k monitor or TV until HDMI 2.0 comes out
        http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?101540-Do-not-buy-a-4k-monitor-or-TV-until-HDMI-2-0-comes-out-this-year!

Most 4k TVs should enable HDMI 2.0 via a firmware update in the near future, apparently.
EDIT: Well, at least Sony and probably LG and Samsung.

      • -3

i wouldn't get my hopes up! HDMI 2.0 is a new connection (plug) with new 2.0 cable. Something a firmware update wont fix..

This info is probably supported by Sony, LG and Samsung to help sell current 1st gen TV's .. next year they will release a press report and say ..ohh sorry we got it wrong!! you do need a new TV to use HDMI 2.0 … go out and buy our new second Generation 4k TV's they are on the shelf now! :)

Only way to get 4k 60FPS today is using the Dell 32" UP3214Q 4k Pro PC monitor via Display port 1.2 ( PC connection ) :)

        http://www.techpowerup.com/193639/dells-ultrasharp-up3214q-u…

        According to Dell's site:
        - 3840 x 2160 @ 60 Hz via DisplayPort 1.2
        - 3840 x 2160 @ 30 Hz via HDMI

  • From speaking to the Video pro guys the Sony 4k 55 inch tv is around 3500.

    • That's slightly more than the LG 55 inch and doesn't come with a free xbox.

  • +1

    Panasonic's new 4k tv supports HDMI 2.0.
    http://www.panasonic.com/au/consumer/tvs-projectors/led-lcd-…

The only benefit I currently see for 4k tv's is passive 3d in full hd but for 3x the price it's not worth it.

4k lg looked brilliant. Saw it side by side showing the same.content with the lg 8600 series 55" and 60". The 4k screen was much clearer and brighter. Made the 8600 TVs look like sdtv! Its sold me on a 4k screen

Also a good point to note if you like picture in picture, is that the LG 4k TVs are the only 4k TVs with twin digital tuners. Also the 8600 series are the only HDTV with twin digital tuners at the moment.

    • Side by side where? No store will have a 4k and 1080p panel showing the same source together side by side, it's marketing suicide. They always have demo HD material on 4k panels.

You're kidding yourself, sorry. Your LG may have other advantages other than resolution over the one you saw it compared to, that will be the difference, not resolution. From a conventional viewing distance there's no difference, especially if you're talking 55 or 60 inch. It's probably still a great panel, it just that for much, much less, the current top Plasmas are still better.

      • Its on display at Harvey Norman in Nunawading. They had the 4k 60", then the 55" and 60" 8600 models all lined up in a row!!!!. I changed all of the 3 tvs to show the same video.

Amazing to see the difference! They also had the LG OLED which was pretty epic.

I don't own an LG. I own a Samsung. The higher resolution, even though not utilised by the video source, still made a difference to the picture quality.

I bargained down the price of the 4k to $3750. Wasn't too bad. But I'll wait till next year. I think the LG 4K looked the best of all the 4k they had (Sony, Samsung, Panasonic), but that could be my preference to the image settings I guess

    • +1 to your HN salesman

  • just ebayed and this seller has the 55" samsung uhd tv:
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/261352420059

    $3500

    • That's still more than the LG from Videopro and doesn't come with a free xbox.

  • What about your own 4K content from GoPro+? Anyone tried it? Worth?

  • Currently@approx$1/pixel :D

    • +2

      there's a few more pixels than 4000 in a 4k TV, :P

    • Good news you get another 2159 lines of pixcels. At approx 8.3 megapixcels your $ is about to go much further
