As promised, we are going to bring back regular rewards for our most active members on OzBargain — to reward them for their hard work, and also to show gratitude to their contribution in the community here. We will bring back monthly rewards later in January 2014. It will happen at the end of each month based on the stats. Which stats? What kind of rewards? I won't reveal them yet. It might be different each month, but our aim is to reward more individuals for their commendable work here.
As for this year — which is just two and half weeks to go — we will run this one single event, awarding prizes to some of the biggest achievers at OzBargain in 2013. So drumroll please and here we go…
Deal Generator of the Year
This is rewarded to the member that posted the most deals this year. theearth has posted 817 deals since 1st of January this year (not counting the dupes) — that's on average 2.36 deals per day & 200+ deals ahead of the next runner-up. With an average vote of +21.09 and 186 of them got onto the front-page, these aren't random bargains either. What a great job! And please please don't leave us!
Rookie of the Year
This is rewarded to the best contributor who joined us this year. I think we are all familiar with WNK by now. Joined in April this year and has quickly shared some of the best deals on OzBargain (many great Android apps and Udemy free courses). He has posted 383 deals with +36.98 votes. Looking forward to more great deals from WNK in 2014.
Commentator of the Year
'nuff said. Almost 4,800 comments this year (and probably more by the time I finished typing this post up). Some of his classics — yes jv did it again. He is also the one with most comments that got -5 or lower — 244. As OzBargainers we all came to love and/or hate this guy. Imagine a day without reading jv's comments…
Helpful Member of the Year
Being "helpful" is quite subjective, but then again I am the one giving out prizes so I get to pick. scrimshaw came top 5 in the number of comments posted. Amongst the top 5, he has the highest average votes. +5/-5 ratio (number of comments with +5 or higher votes vs. number with -5 or lower votes) is high at 176 (100x of jv's at 1.75). That just means someone who has been helpful in comments, careful trying not to get into flame wars or posting trolling comments, etc. That's the kind of behaviour I would like to see from more OzBargainers.
Store Representative of the Year
This prize is rewarded to store representative / merchant that post best deals and are interacting with the community to provide support and listen to feedbacks. Out of all the deals posted by ShoppingExpress (the rep, not the store), more than half of them got onto the front page (44 out of 85). They have also posted over 1,300 comments this year participating not just in the deals they posted, but also ShoppingExpress deals posted by other community members. They should offer a course on Udemy on "how to be successful on OzBargain" (for free, of course).
Power User of the Year
For those who don't know what the power users do, here is a wiki page for you. They are the ones armed with extra editing power to fix up bad title, bad descriptions, bad tagging, etc in the deals and forum posts on OzBargain. The top 3 contestants for this prize are all pretty close, but roughana won out because of his recent effort in fixing up deals.
And finally we have
OzBargainer of the Year
The prize goes to … easternculture
What can I say? This MS Office deal got the most votes this year (+894), getting the most clicks (37k+) and received the most page views (99k+). Another deal of his also got into the top 5 of most clicks and more page views (determined by our Analytics reports).
But Eastern is far more than just posting one shot wonders. Throughout 2013, he has also posted 600+ deals with +34.31 average, 244 of them got onto the front page and posted 3,100+ comments, with +5/-5 ratio at respectable 5.75.
Thank you to easternculture for your contribution at OzBargain!
Prizes
I will contact all the winners in the next couple of days regarding claiming the prizes, which would be in the form of gift cards or PayPal credit. Top prize "OzBargainer of the Year" will get a $1,000 reward. All other prizes will get a $250 reward. Except for the "Store Rep of the Year". Our model rep should have already gained lots of customers and sales from OzBargain already :)
