    • exactly the same thing I was thinking..

My kids hate them, but they're good in-ear temperature readers.

  • meritline periodically sell these for ~$2.50 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/digital+thermometer…

  • Ive had a couple of these, seem to work for a little while then break. Invest in a brandname one.

  • Yeah, if you want it to really work get a Thermapen

EDIT: I bought from here on Ebay and it's fine. Good price compared to normal too.

If you don't like the colour choice, just watch it. They will relist with most of the colours.

  • Buy a brand name one..and buy a remote one. So you can put your stuff on slow cook and put an alarm timer on while you watch the game. :)

I purchased a brand name remote one, stopped working after not too much use, but out of warranty time period.
Everything turns on, it just wont communicate.
Most brand name ones are just a private label of an open design that anyone can brand. So no need to necessarily get a branded one.
Now to get another remote one.
This gasmate one from Bunnings for $24.95 is just like the one I got for $50
      http://www.bunnings.com.au/gasmate-remote-digital-grill-ther…

      • I have the gasmate one from Bunnings, so far so good 7+ months on it. :)

        • Is the gasmate a wifi one? I've been on the look out for one that I can leave stuck into the meat in the oven / bbq and check temperature over wifi, but the ones on Amazon are something like $150 and come with their own 'base' to communicate back to, which seems pointless (just send to a web interface, geez). Anyone know of anything that might fit what I'm looking for?

        • +1

No, the probe goes into that little black base, which then transmits the temp to the digital display receiver but not a wifi thing.
You can set it to go off at a “taste” level eg medium or temp level (taste level is of course just a temp level).
When it hits desired level you get an annoying beep, very convenient and I will get that one from Bunnings.

You could try this iGrill bluetooth one from JB or Myer for $99
