The brand and model of this is Smartsensor AR350 in case anyone is wondering.

  • Hmm, wonder how useful this might be on babies…

    • they are not sensitive enough for that.

      • +1

        babies are insensitive

        • that's insensitive to say that !

      • I'm hoping that means you've tried? haha

        • Heh heh, no, but let's say I've researched it…

    • +/- 1.5 degrees makes it useless. and in general, the lasers aren't great for skin because surface moisture (read: sweat) can throw them well off.

    Ouch! $18.10 shipping to 2480

  • any good for catalytic converters?

    • Probably not, a quick search finds this:

The ideal operating temperature range of catalytic converters is 900-1,000 degrees F, although they can, and often do, operate above this range.

Other results show similar numbers, all of which are well beyond what this item can read.

      Temperature Range -50℃~480℃(-58℉~896℉)

there's gotta be some engineer who uses this at work and brings it home and probably even tries to measure their baby's temperature from the other side of the room!

    • it will read the baby's temperature but it will be the skin temperature not internal(core) temperature, quite a few degrees difference, that's why a regular thermometer is placed up the bum or under tongue and not on skin surface!

  • I've often been meaning to get one of these for a bit of fun and mucking around.
I would have to have one that works on AA or AAA, since I don't like 9V battery usage, even though I have some rechargeables in 9V.
