I remember buying each season of seinfeld on DVD for $5 each when Dick Smith had their DVD clearance last year. Now those were the times.

That $69 deal from Kmart for the box set is the cheapest that i can find. Would be ok if your local Kmart actually has it in stock. Or maybe you could try price match JB Hi-Fi with this $69 price from Kmart.

    No soup for you! :(

This box-set is very good. I wouldn't recommend waiting for any significant shrinkage in price.

Does it come with a bonus DVD of Rochelle Rochelle - A young girl's strange erotic journey from Milan to Minsk?

And what about Death Blow… When someone tries to blow you up, not because of who you are, but for different reasons altogether!

  • Tempted, but will wait for the inevitable Blu-Ray release.

Don't know how it still isn't on Blu-Ray yet, it looked great when it was on 7mate and Go.

    • +1

      It was real and spectacular?

    • Wonder why it's taking Sony so long to put it on blu-ray.

    • +1

It'll probably be $69 for a single season on blu ray if it is ever released

    • +1

those SD 4:3 episodes will look great on blu-ray…. ;)

  • George is getting upset!

Hard to justify when the HDTV releases online are much better quality.

I wonder if they will ever release a bluray version.

    • Really ok if there are HDTV releases online then there's no reason why there shouldn't be a blu-ray release.

      • Not exactly.

The quality is quite good, better then DVD as mentioned.

However for bluray they would want the maximum quality possible, AFAIK this involves getting the original film and then remastering it.

I think it costs a lot of time and money.

        • Sony was in the process of remastering the episodes onto HD back in 2006 so they must be some way into it by now.

    • What HDTV releases? Seinfeld isn't even available on iTunes.

      http://www.slate.com/blogs/trending/2013/04/04/seinfeld_reru…

      • It has been on TV which is why its called HDTV.

  • OK turns out that Seinfeld must have been shot on tape in HD quality and back in 2006 Sony was in the process of remastering the 180 episodes of Seinfeld for HD release. Would be great on blu-ray if it ever eventuates some day. Sure is taking some time though i mean that was 7 years ago.

  • Why still no bluray? :(

    • Even if it comes out on blu-ray some day the seasons are likely to be about $70 each. Sony would want to re-coup the costly price of remastering the episodes. Like how Star Trek The Next Generation season 1 on blu-ray what was it at release about $70 or so?.

      • +1

I don't really care about the price, but rather the technology bluray can offer and a reduced quantity of discs.

        • There'd still be about the same amount of episodes on each disc but just the video bit rate will be much higher and possibly uncompressed sound.

        • I guess this will suffice. Dad will be pleased :)

        • Back in my day we used to watch VHS. Spoilt kiddos.

        • Same here, I remember recording each ep on VHS from Foxtel when they had the Seinfeld marathon.

      • +1

I think they have remastered them already - I'm sure ages ago they were being broadcast in HD on US cable and everyone started wanting a Blu-Ray release .. which has never arrived. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seinfeld#Seinfeld_in_HD

        • From memory that copy isn't from the original film so the quality wouldn't be as good.

Basically the amazing remasters you see done to movies, hasn't been done to seinfeld yet…

"You know I always wanted to pretend that I was an architect"

    • +9

As if you'd want to watch neighbours or home and away :D

    • -3

Why not do both? Not that Neighbours or Home & Away are on the same level as Seinfeld.

    • +13

      Cos they suck.

  • +1

Just don't hold your breath for the 3D version ;-)

How come the US version has an extra DVD ie, 33?
[Update: I think we miss out on "Bonus disc featuring the reunion of the cast plus Larry David on the ninth anniversary of the series finale" and the Coffee Table book]

    • Don't get confused with the garden variety disc set on sale here, with the 33-Disk Limited Edition Coffee Table Book Boxed Set Version.

The coffee table book version included a coffee table book and nicer packaging i.e. nicer hard box, separate boxes for holding the all the seasons, and extra (33rd) disk.

The coffee table book Oz (R4) version was $339 (JB Hifi) on release and sold out ages ago. It's become a bit of a collector's item for the true Seinfeld fan (like myself), even more so the Oz version (R4) than the US version (R1). I have two sets of the Oz coffee table book version myself as well as the garden variety version.

If you happen to come across a brand new unopened Oz version it will likely be worth a lot more than $339 if you tried to sell it, as it is as rare as a sabre-toothed butterfly.

From the link in your post, the odd US (R1)Coffee table book Version can be found through an Amazon reseller.

Finally, be careful of on-line (DVD) retailers that claim to have in stock cheap Region Free Coffee Table Book versions. This was never released region free and is a Chinese counterfeit.

  • Picked this up around the same time last year for $75. Best purchase. Always randomly watch some episodes, and the special content alone!

    • Nice. Though $69 from Kmart paid with ING pay wave would be better than buying it online with free delivery
