OzGameShop died this year. It used to be something special now it's just a ebgames in the UK.

    • +3

Yeah but that's the unfortunate reality of import shops, as soon as the exchange rate decided to go down the past several months, the prices on import sites become less desirable.

      • +9

Especially now that Big W and the others often have good prices on release that are similar to OZGS prices.

The exchange rate hasn't changed that much. Not like it's gone back to 60-70c where it was in 2009. It's actually still stronger than its initial growth when sites like Zavvi and Ozgameshop sprung up for us down under.

Ozgameshop launched 13/08/2010 for those that want to check those figures. We all used 365games.co.uk before then.

It's more to do with these websites wanting more money.

Australian dollar is, say 10% weaker now than last year. But prices on OzgameShop are about 20% worse now. OzgameShop used to be awesome for board games, but now Amazon USA and Book Depository (for Fantasy flight & D&D based games) generally have cheaper prices, and OzGameShop is only worth purchasing from when you have discount codes.

It's a competitive world online, and most people have little brand loyalty - they just buy from whoever is cheapest. I used to purchase all of my books from Amazon, then i discovered Book Depository is sometimes cheaper, and through Booko I discovered other sellers like The Nile, Kennys, Fishpond. Whoever has the lowest price with shipping factored in gets my money.

That's right. No need to despair, there is always plenty of competition and alternative e-tailers online in this market to purchase your games from.

Thaal - are you a black mage of commerce?

    • Well, OzGameShop aren't that bad. I cant find anywhere in Australia that will sell Fire Emblem 3ds for under $57 and with this deal its $48 from OzGameShop.

      • I've seen a couple of posts recently mentioning Blockbuster and EzyDVD.

Blockbuster has it for $44.16, free shipping for orders over $60
        http://www.blockbuster.com.au/games/fire-emblem-awakening-ni…

I think it's a similar price on ezydvd.

        • Yeah, I agree Blockbuster are generally cheaper but in my experience I am also generally waiting at least 3-4 weeks for delivery compared to ozgameshop's 1-2 weeks.

I'd rather pay the extra couple of dollars to get my product sooner, but if I was after the absolute cheapest price then Blockbuster/VideoEzy/EzyDVD/WOWHD would be the way to go.

Just bought a Luigi and a Mario Wii Remote for a total of $99.98 with the FRENZIED-10 discount code. Very happy since these are $69 each at JB HiFi and EB Games.

  • Hmmm Max Payne is down to $13 for PS3 now… Shame I can't find much I really want to bundle it with though.

  • anyone know wheres the cheapest place to get nba2k14 for ps4? with this special, it looks like $65 is the cheapest at ozgameshop.

im also considering getting it for ps3 and then using the redemption code, but i saw at ebgames there was a sticker on the ps3 game saying the redemption code is 29.99 to upgrade to ps4.
    can anyone confirm this?

Such a shame the prices at Ozgameshop aren't that good anymore..Rarely buying from them. I think I've shopped at EB more this year than at Ozgameshop which tells you something is really wrong :/

  • Hi guys,

Thanks for the comments about ozgameshop.com - it's great to get feedback on board from our customers.

As with any retailer, we have to price our items in line with increasing delivery costs, exchange rate fluctuations and the costings which we receive from our suppliers. We regularly check our prices against our Aussie competitors to ensure that we're giving the best value to our customers. Our aim is to be the cheapest option for Australian consumers, on the whole I believe this is something which we do achieve the vast majority of the time.

This is backed-up by a bit of competitor research we've done today: http://pastebin.com/mJifKiCk

As you can see, we're cheaper for 11 of the top 15 products - some by up to $30. We're looking at the pricing of Minecraft, Just Dance and Black Flag to see if we can come down to a better level.

We also offer some great benefits to our customers including free delivery on all orders (I believe most other retailers in Australia charge for delivery - keep in mind that we're shipping it halfway around the world) and the Player Points rewards system, which rewards customers with money off subsequent purchases.

    Many thanks,

    Rob

Which Aussie competitors do you check against? I hope it's not the three in that link.

      Hi Rob from OzGameShop!

Glad to see a rep having a look at customer feedback, that's a really good thing to have and it's understandable you've had to increase your prices due to the above stated reasons however it's still a little heart breaking to remember how crazy great the prices on OzGameShop were, you almost always had great AAA titles which were a year to 2 years old in the 20-30 dollar region, and other lesser known titles for 20 or less, nowadays most of the games are 40+ which puts you in the range for local sellers which even if they are a little more expensive, they are local and you can walk in to get them or have them delivered within the week. Also as you have listed the latest titles are almost the same price as local sellers which really draws away from OzGameShop.

I really loved the old OzGameShop, the extra few days wait was never a worry as the prices were always incredible and the regular sales had me buying at least 4 games a month! I hope you guys manage to bring back the golden days!

      Take care!!
