Not to keen on that 666 number haha

Must be a beast of a TV.

    • +8

It might keep the religious infomercials away!

    • +24

      One hell of a screen?

    • +2

It is a plasma. It probably gets hot as hell

      • you get a 2-in-1, TV and a heater. win/win.

      • Bought one of the Panasonic 50" recently and it doesn't get that warm.

    • +4

That's a really good price…where the devils am I going to get $666 from?

    • This tv consumes so0o much energy

  • Does this TV has subtitle? My brother is learning English and we need a TV that has subtitle so he can understand the news .

    • +1

I would not rely on teletext, it is delayed and sometimes inaccurate.

      • +2

        It depends on the network/channel.
Channel 7, 9, 10, SBS, ABC usually has subtitle.
However, it usually delay for live show such as news, sport events, X Factor final, etc

    • abc iview might be your answer

    • All TV's have subtitles (also known as Closed Captions).

  • +1

Is it smart TV? No Ethernet connection option.
    refer http://www.lg.com/us/tvs/lg-50PN6500-plasma-tv - no network port :( :(

    • +4

you can buy an Android plug in computer that will make it a smart TV, they are tinyand plug into the HDMI, cost $50~$100.
They are better in that if you want to upgrade just buy a new Android dongle :)

      • +2

Or just plug in your laptop. Can't get any smarter than that.

      • +4

Even better, buy a rasberry pi, that way you can count on future support.

Big problem with android sticks is that as soon as a new model comes out the manufacturer ditches them in regards to software updates.

      • Or get chromecast

        • Or get miracast, even better.

  • +4

    From description…
"boasts an energy rating of 2.5 stars, so you can enjoy your new LG TV without any billing surprises"

Yeah, with 2.5 stars, don't be surprised if your bill doubles.

    • +1

      From what to what?

      • +28

        From x to 2x.

    • O yeeeah….. This thing would suck electricity….. I have 42" plasma and it guzzles like my ford…:-)

      • I have a ford v8 and an XRT on 98. Who wins? :P

plasmas are better than they used to be, and 2.5 while not being great is probably using a newer version of the power scale as they generally update it fairly frequently, making the previously 'ok' tvs look terrible.

but then again it is a cheapo.

    • +1

All plasmas use more energy than LED, it is uniform across all plasmas. LED's are designed to be used everyday and as such more efficient, plasmas are for the more occasional movie watch and tv now and again (not saying that they cant be used everyday, just means you will pay more on your energy bill).

      • +6

http://www.rtings.com/info/lcd-vs-led-vs-plasma/power-consum…, for an extra $20-30 electricity a year for a 60' plasma, is the extra cost really that significant?

        • +2

$0.11c a kilowatt? That's less than half of what most of Australia pays.

        • +1

make it 22c it is still only $40

        • +1

I see you also chose the most efficient plasma panel when it's on a power saving mode to boot against a run of the mill LED power input.

I would like to see an objective comparison with watt meters and different models rather punching in doctored values to a calculator.

          http://www.lg.com/us/tvs/lg-50PN6500-plasma-tv
They don't even specify the input power, only the standby power, even after downloading the extended PDF specs. If it's so bad that LG are just omitting the value then I would think it's closer to 500w input power than the 100 that you put into the calculator.

        • Did you read the article it is based on averages and makes no mention of power save mode?

        • What that article comes down to is the calculator, the values and graph.

          And it's wrong.

        • +3

if you say so, there are numerous comparisons sites, do your research, the cost difference isn't that significant.

        • +2

I agree that plasma panels have significantly reduced their input power needs and that the gap isn't as large as it once was when LED first came out, but that the $ value would be closer to $100 and the input power on an 60" plasma would be greater than 130w. I can't find any information on the input power of this LG TV so it's a bit of a mystery until someone chimes in with a watt meter and that model.

TBH $100 per year is most likely not a concern if you are buying a 60" TV and a small cost if one prefers plasma to LED, or the feature set of one TV vs another.

      • More importantly than power consumption is this…

        1. Refresh rate compared to LCD/LED based screens. Plasma's will suffer lag in transition of pixel colors creating ghosting of images especially if your running it as PC/Gaming console display.

        2. Burn in and Image Persistence is still a problem with Plasma's. LCD's don't suffer from Burn in and image persistence is rare.

        source: http://lifehacker.com/5982108/is-burn+in-still-an-issue-on-t…

Plasmas are more power hungry, so add that as point 3 to question if the money your saving is worth it.

        • +4

Burn in isn't an issue on new gen plasma's. What about mentioning a few LED cons: poor black levels & contrast, excessive backlight bleed, poor viewing angles, motion blur and artificial looking picture just to name a few.

  • +2

this would have been a smarter deal for Bing to put out on Halloween.

  • -1

Satan switches the TV on at night

  • +2

    Devil's price… no deal!

    • +1

      pay $888 then.

      • +4

        That's Asian Plice.

  • -1

This price is not religiously tolerant.

    • You can pay $667 if that will put you at ease.

  • How is this compare to plasma 60 from panasonic?

  • -2

Buy this tv and PAY WITH YOUR SOUL!!!!!!!!!!

  • Any good deals for the 60inch?

  • -2

I'd really love a plasma but I don't have anywhere to put it until I move to a bigger place.

  • +8

I wish people would actually post some useful information or reviews or general feedback on the TV (or the deal) itself, rather than repeating useless 666-related jokes over and over again. It's just filling up the comments with spam.

    • -1

You can't google the information yourself and need someone else to do it? take your finger outta your bhole…

  • I bought one from Liverpool Bing Lee. $640. One thing to note: There is a black border about 1.5CM thick on the inside of the bezel. So the border is technically thicker than what you see in the pictures.

  • What a crazy price.

Are there any chain stores that will price match or beat this?

666 is not the number of the Beast. Papyrus 115 cleared that up a few years ago.
Based on this 2005 discovery, the number was revised to

    616

    So buy with secular confidence!

    • gosh… many emo and metal bands would be feeling quite awkward….

  • :( Bought this last week from bigbrownbox for $749. They do have a 7 day price guarantee so I'll see how that goes.

  • I bought one from binglee a year ago and it runs cool, power isnt an issue (save enough up front) and i put a usb/wireless kbd/mouse for the internet

I stream stuff to it but found the built in codecs are not all that great (prob a single core arm chip) so got a WD media player and it plays everything.
Wifi streaming speeds not great so bought a x2 cable off ebay for the LG/WD and its plenty fast enough
Has abc/iview, sbs but lacks apps as its an LG store and not an Andriod marketplace

If i was to buy agian i would get a 60"-65" LED for $2k but this ones going strong so i can wait for the price to drop

The built in web experience sucks, it works but sucks as the browser is shite!

I was overall disapointed but at $800 (now $666) i can live with the limitations

  • I bought this TV from JB HIFI 8 months ago for $498 + $50 Delivery. Good Tv when it's working have had it repaired twice under warranty in 8 months.
