  • So, will this run BF4 on ultra settings?

    • +2

It might even calculate the answer to the ultimate question of life, universe and everything.

Thought it might require you to use the 'turbo' button..

    • +1

Not BF4, BUT it may manage Solitaire at high settings…..

Will still lag during the finishing scene.

You jest, but pair it with one of the cheap 7850s from this deal:
      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/122471

…and I bet it will run a lot of new games nicely on high settings (some medium, but some even on ultra - my i3/7790 maxes out Valve games).

The CPU isn't exactly slow, Tom's puts it on the same tier as the i3-550 for games:
      http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overcl…

A gaming pc for $420 is marvellous if that's all your budget allows.

You'll need to throw in a $50 for a power supply upgrade as well, so it's not "just $420".

The 'heavy duty' power supply in this build is the bottom of the barrel grade stuff, so don't count on it if you want a gaming system. Just take a look at their website, it gives you an idea of how basic their stuff is. They don't even disclose the specifications of their PSU's.

        • It's not one of the major brands, but… eh, it's probably fine for a budget build. I've seen Honli around on a few budget systems.

I have a Corsair PSU now, and that gives me peace of mind, but… well, my last PSU was a no-name 500W, and it ran fine for over 10 years.

I only bought a new one because I thought it might be broken or insufficient (it wasn't - it was a mobo issue), so who knows how much longer it would have lasted.

        • Use it until it blows. Cheapies will usually last a year.

Total equivalent at MSY = $286, but cheap considering it's warranty, prebuilt and you don't have to wait in line for out of stock items at MSY.

    RAM: 4GB 1600Mhz DDR3 RAM [Kingston] 44

Hey cool - my gf asked to keep an eye out for budget PCs for her mum's internet/word use. Thanks!

    • Looks like someones gonna get some then :P

  • This or an N54L for a new NAS / development server?

  • +2

Install Linux Mint (13 is a long-term release supported until 2017, Mate) & save the cost/headache of Windows…easy set-up, all the stuff mum needs + no more viruses! Looks closer to XP than 8, as well.

    Imho.

    Cheers!

  • Hi rep, can we upgrade the CPU? can't seem to see that as an upgrade option.

  • how does this compare to a i3?
