  • Steering wheel mount? Somehow, no.

Most people I see talking in cars don't even know what hands-free or Bluetooth are, and just hold it to their ear with a Big Mac in the other hand. Good knee control I guess.

steering wheel mount for mobile phone??

GOOD LUCK using it in Australia, recent price rise of fine up to $433(if I remember correctly) in VIC, for using or even TOUCHING mobile phone while driving.

maybe it'll be good for people cycling, or use it elsewhere…other than car!

Yep! Not allowed to touch a phone for calls unless you are 'properly parked'! GPS and music only if in commercially made mount! Vicroads

Not true, your link is if you are holding your phone. In fact, they will book you if it's sitting on a seat too… A proper mounted phone holder is fine though…

        read here

Using a mobile phone while driving is prohibited, except to make or receive a phone call or to use its audio/music functions provided the phone:
is secured in a commercially designed holder fixed to the vehicle, or
can be operated by the driver without touching any part of the phone, and is not resting on any part of the driver's body.

Using a phone as a navigational device/GPS while driving is prohibited unless it is secured in a commercially designed holder fixed to the vehicle. All other functions (including video calls, texting and emailing) are prohibited.

Actually, reading it more carefully it does state or, meaning either is acceptable. But they still have an open clause with 'Failure to have full control of a motor vehicle', which also covers food and drink in a vehicle. So basically, it can still be at the officers discretion!

    • in VIC, for using or even TOUCHING mobile phone while driving.

You can use a mobile phone whilst driving in VIC for calls and GPS as long as it's in a proper holder.

I doubt this steering mount will qualify though…

    Must.. Drive… Straight… To… Read… Txt…

  • Don't know how convenient this would be to have attached to your steering wheel, but might work out for my motorcycle. Hopefully it's better than to one I have, I lost a 6210 Navigator going over the Gladesville bridge some time ago

Hell no!!! Like above wrote: From Nov 25th fines will now be $433 and a loss of 4 demerit points! Last thing I want to do is mount it somewhere even more visible to Police!

  • +1

In NSW you're allowed to use a phone for gps/music while driving if it is mounted on a cradle. But this is absurd. Might as well have it mounted to the floor of the car

    • I believe this is the same in VIC. There's definitely a bit about it being mounted in the legislation, unless it's changed in the last month or so.

      • +1

Must be a commercially made mount. And not allowed to use a phone for any reason if on Ls or P1s!

Lol http://www.newfrog.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/thumbna…. I like how everyone talks about fines and laws and none wonders where the phone+mount is gonna go once the steering wheel airbag has deployed :)

  • Its great that an order can be placed without having to create an account.

Made in China, for China. No wonder their road toll is insanely high.

      68,000 people per year !!!

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_traffic-re…

Are they all using this mount ?

      • Rich people paying government officials to pass driving test
        Driving without a license
        Driving without going through training
        Bad road conditions
        Bad driving habits

        Most likely contributing factors.

China is far from the worst. If you look at the second collumn, Road fatalities per 100,000 inhabitants per year, Eritrea has 48.4 which is more than two times as many as China..

        • Eritrea has 48.4

I'll have to remember that next time I go there for my holidays…

        • you never go on holidays jv, don't delude yourself.

      • Because they reverse to finish the job.

  • would get knocked of alot when turning the wheel

  • Steering Wheel Holder Clip Car Vehicle Mount for Mobile Phone

Not legal in this country and can't see how it could be practical in any country

      • Disregard - I read 'wrist' as 'waist'…

Rep, if you make a steering wheel hot coffee mug holder i'm sold! :)

    • +1

guess what happens when you turning too quick? :-P

      • +2

if it's too quick nothing will happen, coffee will stay in the mug(centrifugal force) :)

        • +1

And if you put your head under the steering wheel you can turn when you need to pour the drink.

        • too much Initial D?

  • Phone / talk or not. Do not go anywhere near this.
To have anything like that sticking out on the steering wheel is illegal.
And a very good indicator of what you are up to hence a reason for a booking.

  • This takes the cake for the most ridiculous post I've read on Ozbargain. The "device" may have uses but mounting for a phone on a car steering wheel isn't one of them. The description should be altered or the deal removed as inappropriate and irresponsible. Mods?

    • Didn't you read the last part of the description? "More easy and safe to drive." LOL

    • to be fair, i initially read that as "Steering wheel holder"
