2x Super Nintendo USB Controllers $18 (Delivery with Tracking Extra $7)

1010

To celebrate my new webshop www.retrozone.com.au I decided to have a "I can makes webshops sale"

Everything in the shop is on sale (Yes that's right all 5 items). For the time being we only accept Paypal.

The Super Nintendo style USB controllers have been my most popular ebay item so far and the feedback from everyone has been great. These controllers are easy to setup and work just about as well as the original Super Nintendo controls. They are perfect for emulation.

Item's are shipped by Australia post Parcel post with tracking and is a flat fee of $7.

Any feedback about the shop will be appreciated. In the near future my range will also be expanding and next week I should have USB Sega Saturn controllers, USB N64 and USB NES controllers.

Also if you have any requests about a retro controller or items please let me know and I will see what I can do.

EDIT. Just to let you guys know these are not official controllers. If anyone purchased them thinking they were please contact me for a refund.

Cheers

Chris

    Old skool!

    /highfive

I'll be having a look for sure, goood luck!

    • +4

Great to hear there is some interest.

When I started selling these item's I was really worried I was the only one who was keen.

      • This brightened my afternoon :) Do you guys have any specials for N64 USB controllers?

        • +1

Will have to get them in stock first. Next week they should arrive though I will make sure there is a bit of a discount.

I only ordered 10 of them though, since they were fairly slow movers on ebay.

  • +7

I might be back to place a small order if my will power crumbles, +1 for tempting me

  • I know you said you were new & all, but I can't help but say this:

Everything in the shop is on sale (Yes that's right all 5 items)

    Whoppin' big inventory!

    • +16

Almost too many to count (on one hand anyway) :)

      • +1

I just paid $18.95 for the same thing from an eBay shop in the UK. Took about 2 weeks to get here.

        • +2

You should sort the prices to show lowest first.

I got mine from an eBay shop in the UK and with delivery it was under $9.

        • I did get two of them.
Probably cheaper if you find a HK shop though.

        • $8.06 aliexpress. How are they compared to original.

I ordered the purple coloured ones once and they didn't feel right.

        • I got the coloured ones like these. Nowhere near the original in terms of quality or feel but good enough to play a few games.

      • Hoping soon that you have enough stock that I'll need to count my toes too :P

  • defo interested in usb N64 controllers (if they work with wii)

    • +1

Well the n64 controllers are Retrolink ones but I don't think they would work with the wii since it connects with USB.

      • I got a retrolink one for about $20 off ebay last year and it's served me well, I'd recommend stocking a few of them

  • how's the quality of these things?

how do they compare to the real deal?

    • Fairly good quality.

As for the real deal almost a good, I thought they were practically identical when I initially picked it up. However if you have one side by side you will notice some subtle differences. Feedback has been great from everyone so far and a friend of mine who is an avid gamer noticed the subtle differences as well.

  • good price, cheaper than ebay anyway (and local delivery)

  • Those look pretty rad. Might have to pick one up to compliment my smartjoy & other snes controllers :)

  • +4

If your gonna stock things like this I think you should also carry the Usb connectors chances are people who will want to play on their computers via usb already own the consoles and controllers and would like to use the Original controllers (much higher quality usually). Also if you do make sure if you carry the ps2 ones you get the kind that can be used for DDR mats (some don't have the option. most that do you need to hold a set of keys in the right order to activate "DDR mode") so people can use them for normal ps2 or DDR. Best of luck with your retro store.

    • +1

      ^this

I already have 2 original controllers and would buy 2 USB adapters if you had them.

    • +3

Yeah, the truth is the genuine controllers often have incredible build quality. For platformers and fighting games, my SNES controllers are still more accurate and responsive than my 360 controller (mostly due to the D-pad, I heard the next-gen consoles will have better d-pads as some of Nintendo's patents have finally expired).

Still, if you can't find them in good condition, the fakes are great for a little nostalgia.

      • +1

fakes are great for a little nostalgia

Was just about to emphasise this. Well said.

      • +1

I was playing Killer Instinct on my old SNES the other day and physically exclaimed "WHAT THE F*CK?" when I noticed how amazingly responsive the D-Pad was. Seriously - why don't they make D-Pads like this anymore?? Surely a patent or two can't stop you from making good controller buttons.

    • +1

Thanks for that I will look at getting those in the future. The only problem I had with those adapters is that I would have to charge more than the controller and I didn't think anyone would buy it at that price.

Not sure why it costs more but I don't think a simple adapter does it.

      • Maybe just buy a few and see? Can you match the cheapest ebay prices on the USB adapters?

        • I will see, however the cheapest on ebay is 12 bucks shipped. If I do manage to source some would you like me to message you?

        • Actually I have enough already, anyone else interested?

  • +1

By any chance do you have any Nintendo 64 USB controllers in stock? :D

    • Not yet they should come in next week though. Would you like me to message you when they arrive?

      • Yes please! :)

      • me too!

  • Your wired 360 controller for PC seems good value at $18, even though it's not genuine Microsoft.

    • +1

Yeah I am using it at home playing naruto storm 3 currently and I have no complaints. The cable on them is huge easily more than 2 metres. The LB and RB buttons make a bit more of a clicking sound than the genuine one though.

      • +3

I only buy generic controllers for players 2, 3 and 4.. and sometimes for player 1 when I'm trying to save cash.

        • +4

Yeah that's probably the best way of doing it. I mean the clones are good quality and all but they are just that fraction not up to the genuine. Which for a casual user and most games are fine but with long sittings and intense games isn't the best.

  • Ordered a Xbox 360 controller. Good bye motion joy

    • The headaches I had with motion joy. I actually gave up trying to get it to work, just seemed like so much effort for so little reward.

You would have placed the order before I put the notice that they were not official xbox 360 controllers I would be more than happy to give you a refund if that's what you want.

        • I'll take a look at this but wish there was a kickstarter type website were you could make a software/app idea and make a bounty pot that pays out if a developer makes it so random people could add to the bounty till someone makes it and claims it.

I would so fund a Open source software driver for windows that excellently easily connects the ps3 controller through bluetooth just because motion joy is such a piece of garbage.

  • +1

Good deal. I'll hold you to the N64 to USB controllers though. My N64 controllers have the all too common limp stick, so I'm not about to buy a USB to N64 converter so I can play N64 emulators.

You should start adding Android/iOS compatible gear for playing emulators also. Something like a generic gameklip (http://buy.thegameklip.com) and controller combo would be pretty damn awesome, as the game klip is ridiculously over priced (a bent piece of plastic costs more than a PS3 gamepad), There doesn't exist a generic one yet, but there are solutions such as 3D printing your own or using a spider podium (what I ended up doing).

    • I have seen a stack of Bluetooth controllers which do exactly that but I am always hesitant to order wireless devices. I will keep an eye out for the clip though.

      • +1

        Fair enough.

I don't blame your hesitancy, as the cheaper ones can use different protocols over bluetooth and might only use the usb port for charging rather than data (making a rooted phone necessary).

There do exist copies of the PS3 controller that work fine over USB (and can also charge from that port) and also work great over bluetooth. They are generally a little more expensive than the really cheap ones (still cheap though, got mine for $20 delivered a few months back) but act the same as an official PS3 controller so compatibility has been great, with and without using the six axis controller app.

The klip is a different story. I'm pretty sure that no generic ones exist but it would be awesome if you could find them or even have a batch printed from your own design.

That sounds awesome! Can you please tell me where to get it?

        • Wouldn't mind knowing also, as eBay is riddled with dodgy clones & fake cut 'n paste specs.

        • +1

          To you and Mike:

It was over 3 months ago so I can't view the item in eBay to tell you the exact one I got.

I'm fairly certain that this is the same one http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BRAND-NEW-Black-PS3-Wireless-Blue…

I'm thinking mine had a lip around the thumb sticks though (same as original) but I won't be 100% sure until I get home in 10 hours time and have a look.

It states specifically that it can be charged or played with using the USB cable and that it works with the PS3 straight out of the box. Those were the two important ones I was looking for when making my purchase a while back and it worked great.

It also heavier and sturdier than the real cheap ones with a build quality very similar to the real deal.

This is partly why I recommended to the rep to sell these. If I had the option of paying an extra ~$5 but was guaranteed that it was going to work for my purpose I would have taken it. It was a slight gamble for me to buy it on eBay with there being so many bad fakes out there that won't work.

EDIT: Just realised I posted this from a coworkers account :/

        • Thanks for the super detailed reply c0balt! :)

with and without using the six axis controller app.

Dooes this mean that you don't need the app (motioninjoy) for USB gaming, but you still need it to connect to a PC via bluetooth?

        • +1

I'm almost certain that when I had the generic PS3 controller hooked up to the PC that it was recognised as a normal gamepad. I haven't actually used it for PC gaming, as I use my xbox 360 controllers with the 'wireless kit for windows' for PC gaming that requires a gamepad and personally prefer the xbox controller to the PS3 one.

I used the generic PS3 controller for Android and it works both using USB without root, as a standard gamepad for the likes of the GTA series and emulators, and also when rooted over bluetooth so you can use pair it to the phone/tablet without a USB cable and also emulate on screen controls using the six axis controller app.

    • +2

      Hello C0balt,

I tried to send you a pm but I think you have that blocked.

Well it looks like the stock for the n64 controllers has arrived much sooner than I expected. I haven't posted a deal yet to give everyone who showed interest in this thread first opportunity to buy them.

It is 27 for the controller and 7 dollars for shipping. I think that makes me the cheapest seller in Australia. You can pickup if you want and I could reduce the price a bit more but the shipping is a killer on these things although it weighs under 500 grams I can't fit it in the 500 gram satchels so I have to put it in a 3 kilo one which costs 11.70. Since I haven't got weight based shipping working yet that is why the controller is a bit higher price and why I can reduce it if you pickup.

http://www.retrozone.com.au/index.php?route=product/product&… It's not featured and I have buried it in the retro section.

      Regards

      Chris

  • Sold! I was looking for these a while ago so I had something to control my dodgy DIY arcade table with, without having to invest in an arcade joystick and buttons. I could only find them from overseas (amazon or thinkgeek) with crazy high shipping costs.

Do they just output keyboard strokes?

    • "Do they just output keyboard strokes?"

If it's like any of the many, many gamepads I have had in my time then the controller's output would be as a gamepad and not keyboard strokes.

      • In that case, I assume my mac wouldn't natively support it?

Maybe my mame software (I forget what one it is) has built in support. I'll sort it out when it arrives.

edit: Can you tell I'm not a gamer :P

        • Pretty certain that OSX supports gamepads.

I have a gamepad and OSX so I'll plug it in and let you know.

EDIT: Well nothing really happened besides the controller started to charge and I can't see it in the preferences pane. I don't have any software to use and it's the first time I've tried using this controller on my Mac so it could be working just I can't test it.

Yeah have a look inside MAME.

    • I don't think they output keyboard strokes.

If you are emulating an arcade wouldn't a controller with analogue sticks be better?

      • It probably would be, but it's a pretty half arsed set up, so this will do. Up until now I've been using a keyboard.

The page said it supports mac… do you have any experience with that?

        • I don't actually unfortunately.

The specs they gave me for it says it does so I just have to trust it. If you find it doesn't let me know and I will give you a refund.

        • Ok. I'll let you know either way. Surely there'll be something built into my mame client, or if not, a third party solution.

        • All good. Recognised as a USB Gamepad in System Profiler, and works fine in MacMame. Thanks!

  • Hi OP,

All the best with your site! Is the xbox controller a legit Microsoft one? Price seems too good to be true.

    • +2

Thanks I have been quite surprised by the response so far. I am really glad there are a number of others like me who love this retro stuff. :D

No it's not legit, build quality is good but not as good as the official Microsoft ones. The LB and RB buttons are a bit noisier than the official. The cable is huge though.

  • Can these be used on a softmodded Wii with SNES emulator?

    • Sorry I really can't answer that question. I would just say no because it sounds like something if you were to get working it would be too much a headache with the process to justify it.

  • +5

+1 because retro is cool and because the rep is doing a great job here :)

  • Keen for a 360 controller to use for PC - what's the quality of these controllers they don't look too solid

    • +2

They are good but not as good as a genuine controller. However they are less than half of price.

I tested the controller playing Naruto Storm 3 and I have no complaints. Only thing I noticed was the missing X on the X box button and the LB and RB buttons make a much louder clicking sound.

The dpad is just as bad as the original xbox 360 controllers. Who knows why they decided to clone that perfectly. :/

      • Haha fair enough, as long as the buttons and thumbpads feel solid enough sounds like a good deal, I try to avoid the D-pad if possible for just that reason. Thanks for responding to questions on here as well. Do you have a link to your ebay store?

        • +2

Well I haven't setup a store yet because I don't have a huge range which justifies it but my username is Retrozoneau.

The controller I opened up is good but I can't be 100% sure if the rest of them are of the same quality. I haven't received any feedback from anyone who has bought them yet. However if you are unhappy with it please let me know and I am sure we can work something out. I kinda wish they weren't sealed in plastic because then I could press the buttons and make sure they are all working fine.

I don't want to be one of those sellers that just peddles crap. My goal is to find a good compromise in price and quality.

        • Fair enough, well hope it works well for you

Any plans to sell older consoles / controllers as well, like N64s, PS2s etc? Kind of hard to find a place to source this stuff which is reliable other than just searching eBay which can at times be unreliable. Would love a place to buy older consoles and games from which are hard to find

        • +1

Well I want to sell some retro consoles but the 2 in 1's and things like that. So they will be brand new and play the older games.

I really wanted to start selling old games and hardware but to be honest it is just too hard. It is a whole stack of work and extremely hard to source. If I did it I would just be another shop driving up the prices because I would have to charge a serious premium bunch because of the work involved.

I honestly think the less of these shops hoarding and driving the prices up the better to be honest.

    • +18

Maybe you should look before you leap, you don't want to keep breaking your spine in the shallow end do you?

These products are not advertised as genuine and are completely legal to sell.

    • +26

Ok added the footnote they aren't genuine products. To be honest I didn't think it came across like they were but have clarified. If anyone feels that they bought these thinking they were official please let me know and I will issue a refund immediately.

        • +16

Wasn't trying to misrepresent but to be honest I haven't seen anywhere else say that the products aren't genuine. However it doesn't bother me if it is there I wouldn't want people to be unhappy with their purchase.

If anyone is unhappy I will refund.

        • +16

Well I have corrected the products and if anyone is misled I will refund them. Not sure what else I can do.

        • +17

davedrastic: Get off your high horse mate. I don't think he was being misleading, and I think the vast majority of people would agree. Regardless though, he has acknowledged why you might feel that, has made changes to his website, and offered to refund anyone that is unhappy. What more do you want him to do?

        • +10

Keep digging that negative vote hole Dave, the numbers will tell you the general consensus that you're out of line. Lose the attitude.

        • +4

          it isn't breaking the law.

He didn't sell them as Genuine Nintendo controllers

some may get confused……..but the vast majority of people would not be and your rant helped nothing but showed us the OP seems like a decent seller

        • +2

          Dude, wow. Stop commenting.

        • -5

          Why?

        • Because you're being negged into oblivion. Sometimes you just have to suck it up and acknowledge that your wrong. Happens to everyone.

        • -3

          Firstly, suck what up?

People can neg all they want.

Secondly, how on Earth does being negged prove that you're wrong?

          Here's a clue…it doesn't.

But, then I guess there's no point in trying to prove that.

Some people just don't see sense

        • +3

I'm out of downvotes for 24 hours?

      • +2

Aside from the Xbox 360 one no one should think these are original controllers as USB didn't exist when all of these came out as far as I know. I've only ever seen a few Real controllers that have been modified to include USB but those are never mass produced.

Anyway your doing a good job with all your responses so keep up the good work!

    • +8

You've exhausted my negative votes for comments for the day. Top job.

      • +3

Is it weird that I log in just to read down voted comments?

        • +1

If you enjoy shaking your head at the most useless of ideas and virtually punching people in the face, then it definitely isn't weird at all.

      • +1

I've bookmarked the page so I can come back tomorrow and down vote some more.

    • +1

"how are we supposed to play any games with it?"

      tell my carpal tunnel that….

    • +4

@Jackbob, you are probably too young to use these controllers ;)

      • +7

^^^This. If people require any kind of dual analog stick, they have never gamed properly.

        Never.

    • +3

You're right! I should throw away my original NES because it doesn't have analog sticks. It's completely useless!

Actually, the same goes for my Macbook, television, fridge and toaster.

      • +1

@puffinfresh… you forgot the wife and the dog :P
