Melbourne to Kathmandu ~$400 return, not bad!

  • Dupe?

New sale period. The economy prices are slightly different (about $20 higher?) but business is much cheaper than the last deal.

AirAsiaX's doesn't really have a Business class product - even AirAsiaX names their product "Premium Flatbed" instead of Business class.

that said, Premium Flatbed is good if you just want to sleep through the long-haul leg, and at these prices a steal…

I just purchased a return airfare from Mel to KL in May next year. I purchased both fares, added meals there and back, 20KG luggage there and back, and selected my preferred seating there and back. Total price all in was AUD391. That is an excellent fare

  • Thanks! bought one for return SYD-KUL-BKK on Apr for $560 included meals and bag 20kgs.

  • Thanks! Just got great tickets too!

  • How did you guy get the low flights? i've looked at 21 March 14 - 4 April 14 (F1 weeks) and its showing $674 for a return total. Melbourne to KL

    • The airline only sets aside a small proportion of seats at the special low fare price, or they'd go broke. Once those seats are booked the displayed fare for that particular flight will go higher, sometimes much higher. The secret with these deals is to get in early and to be flexible on dates. So pick a date and then advance or go back a week at a time till you see a cheap seat(s) then do the same for the return trip and see if you can find an acceptable date and price. Most often you won't.

      • It's probably not a coincidence that tickets during F1 week are higher.

  • AIR ASIA / OPTIONTOWN WARNING - We recently took a flight to Singapore. Applied/ Paid for the Optiontown Flatbed Upgrade, about 4 hrs before the flight we were informed we were successful. Got the priority check in, asked the girl if food/drink/ blanket etc is provided, she said yes…off we went.

Got on the plane, there were no Flatbeds left. The hosties were in 'discussion' with ground staff. Neither had a clue what to do. They asked us to 'wait in the corner' while they sort it. Doors close, plane taxi's out to runway…still no seat. I speak to the hostie, says the only seats available are individual seats that can't recline, or row 50 (overnight flight btw).

Walking past there is plenty of spare 'hot seats'. They say "no sir, you can't have them as you need to pay in advance"…hello we got the uprgade to flatbeds??

Not happy, we go back to the land of shake and rattle (surely plane tails can't flex and rattle that much forever). We sit down, the girls apologies and then give us water and a blanket. GF is fuming, and says well at least we got this…..Spoke to soon…Hostie then says that will be $6 each. I say we didn't bring cash as we dont need it as we have business class. Hostie insists we pay, and ask for a refund when we return! GF opens and drinks and says too bad.

So here we are, $400 for the one way flight + the extra $ for upgrade-town Premium Flatbeds sitting in row 50, no inflight entertainment, no food, potentially no drink, blankets removed…not from GF…she was in "I will kill you mode".

3am listening to everyone commenting on the amazement that the plane is still in the air with the super shake tale. I sneak down the aisle and go sit in the "hot seats". Put my jumper over head, just about a sleep…get the "sir!, sir! you haven't paid for this seat" tap on the shoulder. After telling them to go and…well "un politely go away"..she keeps taping me on the shoulder…

More of this cr@p continued through the night, the plane had 2 fly around attempts at landing, then dropped on the tarmac like a stone.
In a nutshell, the airline is a joke, don't do it.

    • Optiontown probably recorded a successful upgrade so didn't automatically refund. What seat did your boarding pass say? Do you still have it? They might need your boarding pass in order to follow up on a refund.

  • You do realise that Optiontown refunds you when your upgrade is unsuccesful…I'd get onto that ASAP. As for them not giving you the seat, I am curious how that happened…I'd be contacting AA over that.

You should be bumped down to hotseat/exit row if the UTO doesn't come through, and from there to ESO (spare seats beside you) if PSO is unsuccesful…remembering of course that you bought an OPTION, not a guaranteed outcome, as is available at the point of sale.

Yes it sucks your cabin experience wasn't as good as TG or SQ but you paid less than half price, reality check - it's a budget airline…next time buy a hotseat upgrade when purchasing the ticket, then a UTO through Optiontown, at the very least you will have leg room!

  • Just noticed that when checking Premium options SING>MEL one way, 2 Adult fares or 1 adult + 1 child = $1015 but if I add an extra adult or child the fare total goes to $3173.
I think they only have a couple of premium seats per flight available at these prices.

    • That's standard practice for all airlines.

      • Granted limited seats might be standard practice.

When you jump to 3 seats the price is $1057.66 each.
I question why the first two seats are not $507.50 each and then the third is 1057.66
        total $2072.66
        as opposed to $3173.

Because you buy three you are not entitled to the first two discounted seats?

        • The booking system gives you the price for the lowest fare with 3 seats available. It's a bit of a limitation, I know. You could just book 2 seats at the lower price and then book a third at the higher price if you wanted to.
