Arguably an OS worst than RT.
You either hate it or love it.
If your needs are simply "getting on the internet and browsing" then this is a decent choice.
The only problem is that they are competitive choices out there too, which are more flexible and robust. Windows 8 RT tablets, x86 Windows tablets, Android tablets, and not to mention cheap, nasty sub $400 Acer/Compaq lappies.
The merit I see in this is that the battery life is good, it comes with a full keyboard and there is no need for 'operating system maintenance' because it's cloud based.
No OS maintenance is the only advantage I see (although I don't really maintain windows since it's auto). That asus x86 tablet on sale last week for $350 is 100x a better deal. Battery lasts just as long, maybe longer, bigger drive, has a keyboard aswell.
Google's cloud dream isn't for Australia. Our internet is nowhere near as good as it is in the states. Value per GB is low, no unlimited caps, shoddy coverage - so why rely heavily on it for daily tasks? Yes I know you can operate some tasks offline.
Arguably an OS worst than RT.
A big difference is that you can run a full OS on top of this if you want.

Wow, impressive. I was thinking if it can run matlab on it.
If we're going to have this conversation every time the topic of Chromebooks pops up, it's going to get old real fast. It's obviously not the OS for you, but it might be for some people - so why keep arguing?
The only thing that got old real fast here is the OS.
I feel you man, but what about the specs? The Asus TF810c that someone may have already mentioned was:
$350 vs $335
64Gb vs 16Gb
15hrs vs 6hrs
From a local supplier
Could be used as a tablet
And finally runs a fully functional OS (w8). IMaybe the economies of scale just aren't working for Google yet, but is there anything stopping you from using the Asus like you would a Chromebook?
If after a budget, can get a similar spec for much less: http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-1015E-DS03-10-1-Inch-Laptop-Black…
"ASUS 1015E-DS03 10.1-Inch Laptop ( Black ) cannot be shipped to the selected address.
Looks like a very generic netbook, can get ones just like it here for not very much
Yeah, no… very unlikely to get one of those delivered to aus.
On the other hand, I did buy one for 320 delivered and they were flogging refurbed ones for 280ish recently.
If you dont know the limitations of the andriod os, its a smartphone with a bigger screen and keyboard, don't go expecting to be able to do anything else with it unless you find out how BEFORE you buy it.
This doesn't run Android, it runs Chrome OS?
Samsung chromebook 250 last week (samsung sale, multiple stores including harvey). Much better deal imho
This deal is for a HP Chromebook not Samsung.
Is there much of a difference?
As far as I can tell, HP chromebook has better screen and slightly lighter. However I think Exynos 5250 is a bit under-powered for Chromebook. I'll go for Intel-based chromebooks like the new Acer C720. Faster, although heavier and needs CPU fan.
i know that… thats why i said samsung.
lol vote me down for telling you guys you can get almost the same specs and laptop for $100 less… nice
The reason I post it is so you can call or do some research and try to get it down to $250 as it was already for that price last week SAME specs.
