    • I didn't know Halloween was some time in December? That's probably when this item will arrive :(

Thanks, got one. Hopefully it works okay!

Be warned that banggood are e-mail spammers

  • nothing compared to this, http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/114833, could have bought 6 and still had change left over! i got one and it's ok

  • Exactly the same item on ebay is AU$1.85: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/QZO-Survival-Magnesium-Flint-Toot…

Cheaper versions (like the one linked above) start from $1.22 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Outdoor-Camping-Fishing-Survival-…
(so for 39c the ones above were a good deal)

    • I don't think it is the same - the eBay one's got a strip of flint in a metal cylinder, whereas the Bang Good one looks to be flint (mischmetal) all the way through. If you look at the first pic in the eBay listing, down at the tip of the flint (away from the handle) you can see it's two different materials stuck together.

      • Ask the risk of necro-ing this post, my order's arrived, and like I thought it's a solid block of ferrocerium. It's about 7mm thick, and 67mm long, and if you strike it at waist height it'll drop bright sparks onto the floor.

I haven't lit anything yet (knock on wooden floor) but I think it was good value.

    • While only 2 sold,3 available, maybe it's a clearance sale.Actually,we can even find some ridiculous prices on the web,but we could not receive the product in the end.

Looks like Banggood's got a longer and fatter one

they don't call it Banggood for nothing

All the ones you guys are comparing it to are a piece of wood with a strip of flint on one side - i have bought them before for about 99c
this is clearly very different - 1 solid block of flint, of course it bleeding costs more.
Its like complaining about the price of solid timber furniture cos melamine coated chipboard stuff is cheaper.

    Cheaper on eBay.

  • On eBay, if you the goods purchased are not received, you have an option to deal with the supplier. But the chance are quite limited with these type of direct sales.

eBay would be a preferred option, even if they are the same price.

    • banggood are pretty good, if stuff is wrong or doesn't arrive they refund willingly.
you still have paypal protection anyway.
I would prefer to go with a decent seller direct than know i am paying extra into ebay's pocket for nothing.

      • I don't believe there's paypay protect for non Ebay items.

        • There is - I've filed a couple against DealeXtreme & got my money back. DX have a bad habit of listing things for sale for which they don't have a supplier.

        • I dont know about paypay but Paypal definitely has protection against seller non-performance for anything you are BILLED for, i dont think it extends much to money you just send (from memory).

  • Edit.D:

  • This would have been useful when i was a boy scout… It takes forever to start a fire with 2 sticks…

    • +5

Not if one of them is a match.

    • +1

What are you talking about, I heard Boy Scout's dormitories were infernos…

  • It's done deal, no more $2 light starter that will broke in couple months

  • Why not use matches or cigarete lighter?

    • You can't pretend to be Bear Grills.

    • lol, someone's never been camping in windy or rainy conditions

    • +1

Matches don't work when they are wet, butane lighters don't work in serious cold (i.e. when you really need a fire), and both can be blown out in a high wind. Zippo lighters leak fuel (via evaporation) and so need regular topping up, even if you don't use them.

These Ferrocerium rods are popular with camping/outdoors types, because they are waterproof (you can just shake the water off), and the sparks are about 1000 degrees hotter than your average lighter (about the same as a butane blowtorch). Plus, you can (gently) scrape the flint shavings in to a pile, and use that as tinder, which will get a lot of hard-to-light stuff burning. Finally, they last for ages - I'm guessing there's about a thousand matches worth of fire starts in this thing.
