Brisbane Vasectomy at Gaythorne Private Hospital $99 (Plus Any Excess) for PHI Members

141

Montserrat Day Hospital provide a $99 vasectomy service for men with private health insurance (plus any applicable PHI excess - mine is nil).

This is done using the scalpel free method as day surgery.

Regular cost outside hospital is about $500 with a small Medicare rebate.

Sedation/general anesthetic is additional: I had full sedation which was a $150 gap as there is an anesthetist present during the entire procedure: this is optional and more than 80% of men have it without apparently.

Includes a bonus of 'no more kids' which will save you $$$ in the long run :)

    • -4

mind showing any evidence of that, as would normally be required for a neg?

      • +6

its a medicare rebateable procedure hence free in public hospitals

    • +1

Never seen this offered in public hospital: possibly if you have a health care card and can wait?
I doubt you'd be able to get sedation if you did manage to organize it.

      • +1

They are free in Victoria. I was sedated and demanded a team of doctor's and nurses on standby to jump in if the first team got tired. I never got the second team :(.

        • Where in Melbourne?

        • +1

I really hope that was a joke referencing how huge you anticipated your procedure to be!

    • I don't believe that you should neg this because it is free in a public hospital. Without getting into the public vs private debate, they are two different systems.

It's the same as negging a deal for software on a MAC because the windows version is free.

      • +1

Like most non-essential things in public hospital, I imagine there would be a long wait

    • +3

negging this deal!, you sound very testy.

  • I wonder if a placebo would work…

  • Just a note need to be 28 and over to get this done, or does anyone know of places that will do it under 28?

I'm currently 25 and have been trying to get one since I turned 21. However every GP I have gone to clearly states I have to be 28 (each one has said this) and that I am not of the age to much a judgement…….Wow its my life //end ramble :)

  • Vasectomies seem to be all the rage on ozbargain at the moment.

Birth control is no good, our country's birth rate is below replenishment (about 1.8 children/woman), though not at low as in Europe (1.3 children/women in many places like Spain, Russian and The Fatherland). We need more 'recruits' in order to fund all of our beloved entitlement programs and the huge, ever expanding public sector. Australia cannot just print more money. Boat people aren't acceptable because most of them never end up working and contributing to the economy. The posters mentions the expense of children, but for people on welfare, more children = more handouts.

(Some will consider this trolling, but I am somewhat serious about this issue. Demography is destiny. For better or worse, Muslims shall inherit the earth because they are outbreeding everyone else. Another issue is that dumber people in general are breeding more than smarter/more educated people, so that over time humanity will become less intelligent, perhaps 3 IQ points per generation relative to now. Intelligence no longers confers any survival advantage in the welfare state.)

Interesting conundrum- the world is massively overpopulated but Australia is underpopulated, on some measures- what to do?

    • +2

Boat people aren't acceptable because most of them never end up working and contributing to the economy.

What utter garbage. Can you cite any evidence that a majority migrants to Australia, regardless of how they arrive, are long term unemployed?
You are repeating a racist lie.
From the ABS, 26% of Australians were born overseas: http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/[email protected]/Lookup/2071.0main+fe…
Also from the ABS, the long term unemployment rate is about 1%: http://www.abs.gov.au/AUSSTATS/[email protected]/Lookup/4102.0Main+Fe…

The vast majority of migrants to Australia are hard working and value and contribute to the Australian economy.

    • +1

and the huge, ever expanding public sector.

you live in QLD but you fail to remember the recent butchery of Herr Newman to the Public Service?!?

dumber people in general are breeding more than smarter/more educated people, so that over time humanity will become less intelligent, perhaps 3 IQ points per generation relative to now. Intelligence no longers confers any survival advantage in the welfare state.)

dumber people are a necessary evil. they provide patients on a sunday morning for surgeons to stitch up after getting in fights at nightclubs, they provide jobs for centrelink staff, they keep the australian car spareparts industry alive, they make a ACA + TT funnier, they allow many of us to bask in a sense of superiority, etc.

I'm barely 40 and work in the legal industry and I often see grandparents younger than myself who are battling it out for "custardy" of their grandchildren from their own children (who are virtually children themselves).

    • Although, your argument takes the 'eye for eye' approach, where rather than promoting birth control in 'low IQ people as well as in Muslims and other religions' you would prefer to produce more people and put pressure on already stressed ecology….

Funny thing is life on earth will always sustain…. Its about our survival…

BTW this topic is about the deal :-):-)

"Another issue is that dumber people in general are breeding more than smarter/more educated people, so that over time humanity will become less intelligent, perhaps 3 IQ points per generation relative to now."

Any possibility the supposed intelligence reduction occurred a generation or two earlier than you expected?

  • is there a bank i can store some, incase i change my mind after the snip?

    • Yes, they send a brochure in the info pack, but it costs extra. It was called monash something.

  • comes with a free bag of frozen peas?

  • I'm kinda disappointed. I'd feel like it was more of a bargain if it was one nut for $99, BOGOF.

    • +1

A vasectomy is not an orchidectomy, so no nuts are involved, except for the patient himself :p

    • And anyway, it'd have to be listed as BOLOF!

  • I'd hope that after this surgeery there wouldn't be any "EXCESS"

  • Pretty good deal. I reckon a vet would charge as much to fix your dog.

    • And so they should… It takes the same level of skill!
