  • I think should move to forum.

I disagree unless you can find it cheaper. JBHIFI = $148. RRP = $149.99.

  • Who would honestly pay $366 for Win 8.1 Pro? lol

  • A free upgrade for existing Windows 8 owners

    good one.

i am on Win 8.1 now, remember, there are lots of competibility issues. e.g. drivers, and KIS etc

    • +2

I haven't had any problems what so ever with 8.1, we are running it on 3 x PC's here in the office, and both of mine at home, no issues.

      What problems are you having?

    • +1

Have it on 5 work computers now, no issues either. Although haven't installed on really old computers. Oldest one is a pentium 4 core 2 duo.

$125 at i-tech with free pickup so OW should price match

  • OEM license dies with your motherboard (Microsoft links the license to the MAC of the network card).

Full version, you can install unlimited number of times (one PC at the same time). Although after 5 times, you need to call Microsoft. Said another way, you license never dies.

Win 7 home premium costs $274.

I say: it is a deal!

This only applies if the OEM license was one that came with your computer. This rule does not apply if you bought system builder OEM kit, in which case you are simply a phone call away from transferring your OEM license from one motherboard to another.

However, you must deactivate or remove Windows from the old machine as part of the OEM licensing agreement.. Forum post shows how.

Here is the full licensing agreement. I've included the pertinent info

Can I transfer the software to another computer or user?

You may transfer the software to another computer that belongs to you. You may also transfer the software (together with the license) to a computer owned by someone else if a) you are the first licensed user of the software and b) the new user agrees to the terms of this agreement.

To make that transfer, you must transfer the original media, the certificate of authenticity, the product key and the proof of purchase directly to that other person, without retaining any copies of the software. You may use the backup copy we allow you to make or the media that the software came on to transfer the software. Anytime you transfer the software to a new computer, you must remove the software from the prior computer. You may not transfer the software to share licenses between computers. You may transfer Get Genuine Windows software, Pro Pack or Media Center Pack software only together with the licensed computer.

A lot of people don't know this and spend the extra on the Full ver to 'insure' themselves against potential motherboard loss or upgrades, when in reality you don't have to! Of course, Windows 7 is under another set of agreements, the above statement is true for Windows 8 only

Anyone in a nsw state high school (nor sure if applicable to all states) get a license for the following when they 'graduate' their government issued laptop at the end of year 12:

    Windows 8 pro upgrade key
    Windows 7 ultimate upgrade key
    Office 2013 pro plus key
    Office 2010 pro plus key
    Office 2011 mac key

This the laptop program that k-rudd started, and won't be rolled out next year onwards.

So if you are applicable, or have a child/friend graduating year 12 this year, tell them to get on that!
I've worked in he program for 3 years, and the kids have no idea the value of Microsoft keys, so don't bother claiming.

Sorry, I got sidetracked from the deal lol. But yeah, you don't need to buy windows 8 if you have a kid doing their hsc at the moment.

    Was $48. No deal LOL

Got 3x copies for $15 dollars from that 'loophole'. So glad I did!

  • upgrading now.. :)

  • Just read the 'full versions' are going to be the only ones available for purchase anyway:

    http://techcrunch.com/2013/09/17/microsoft-leaves-windows-8-…

    http://www.infoworld.com/t/microsoft-windows/microsoft-kills…

What's the advantage of purchasing this over Windows 8 OEM and getting the free 8.1 update? Just more up-to-date installation media?

  • +4

Title is misleading. This is not a Full Version. This is an Upgrade Version. Also $129 is for the standard version not the Pro version. No deal.

  • If you want media centre you might be better off buying Win 8.1 Pro (about $160)
Then you can get media centre upgrade for $10 instead of ridiculous price.
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows-8/feature-packs

btw this is no deal. Can get the OEM non-pro for $115 at Umart. Given that OEM version of Win 8 is transferable to another mobo/computer.

  • Hi folks,

an amateur question, .. Can I install this without having Xp or Vista installed, so it's clean install from DOS
It's my sister's old HP Dual core laptop.
    Any assistance is appreciated.
    Thanks!

Win 8 Pro "upgrade" versions are still available for circa $70-$80
    http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Sof…
    http://staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=win+8+upgrade&s…

These are effectively full versions of 8 PRO and eligible for the free 8.1 upgrade…

  • I'm afraid the OP didn't succeed in looking for the best deal.

Windows 8.1 full version $119 from The Good Guys. Beats the Officeworks deal. Maybe Officeworks will price match the The Good Guys price?.
