Is it possible to use these as recharges for existing customers? Guessing not…

    • I am about to jump on to prepaid. From what I have learnt: Use this, when expired, get the $1 prepaid sim card from any network, port it to theirs, and port it back to Boost using This starter kit. Stock this and some $1 cards handy. They expire quite long.

If I'm wrong someone please correct me thanks

      • So how long and how much effort does that take? Genuinely interested, not trying to b a dick. Lol

        • +2

It CAN take several days. My last port back to Telstra took close to a week

    • I have this question as well.

Say I wanted to use one of these sim cards, and then use the same type of sim card for another month, but on the same phone number, could I do that?

  • Too bad these are not recharge print-outs from the super market like once got from Woolworth mobile. That would persuade some people to stock up.

  • So this does not include international call so does that mean if you try to make an international call it will fail? Also with the data does it just stop once you hit 3GB?

    • +2

First question is common sense. Who offers unlimited international calls? Seriously. 3GB Data stops once expired. The data is accumulated in 1MB intervals.

      • -4

Actually TPG (and others?) offer unlimited international landline calls.

And if my experience is anything to go by which is only 1 month granted data does not stop when expired.

In any case I'm ditching Boost for Aldi seeing as "Telstra coverage" on Boost is worse than Kogan was despite Telstra owning Boost. Your experience will no doubt vary though.

        • But how would you know ALDI will be better than Boost?

        • Telstra do not own Boost, they supply the service.
I'm curious how the coverage could be any different as it is using the NextG 850Mhz network, not 3g or 2100.

        • Kogan had "Part of Telstra's 3G Network". Boost has all of it.

I've gone over my monthly 3GB quota with Boost; my internet connection dropped but my calls and SMS were still available.

        • My reading is that Aldi are also using the TW 3G network, not the full NextG network that Boost use. May not affect the majority of users though.

        • Same. I think the worst bit is, I couldn't work it out,. But when you received a MMS/PXT without your data, it will not allow you to accept those images via WiFi. Very annoying, especially when you run out of data 10 days out from your next recharge. (Phone: Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-9300i)

        • What about Telstra's 4G network?

        • No 4G

    • If you purchase a 'Boost Add-on' you can make international calls. Seems quite expensive though. $25 gets you $25 worth of credit - don't think that would last long.

Can be used for the following:
International calls/text/MMS, international roaming, premium services & content*

Details on this page: http://www.boost.com.au/frontend/rates.aspx (click on the arrow next to Boost Add-ons)

  • This is a starter kit only. How can u stock up?

    • +2

You can't. It comes with the sim card. Unless you were to report your sim card lost everytime you wanted to activate a new sim card, port your number to the new sim card etc.

    • Stock up for your overseas relatives/friends.

  • +1

Beware that you cannot use this if you want to port from a telstra prepaid.

    • What about Telstra postpaid?

      • Not sure, but you can ask on the boost online chat, they have been very helpful.

For a telstra prepaid they had to send me out a blank sim. May be the same for post paid.

      • what about Telstra postpaid?

You will need to get them to change it to prepaid before you can port to any prepaid plan with another carrier

    • Whilst there was an issue with porting from Testra prepaid, requiring Boost to send out a blank sim, this is no longer the case.

You can port directly over the boost sim purchased either froma store of direct.

      I have done this myself.

On the deal page it says "INCLUDES UP TO 30 DAYS UNLTD TALK, TEXT AND MMS + UP TO 3GB DATA". Just want to re-confirm that this really means we can't make free calls after 30 days?

    • +1

      Correct.

      Not, until you recharge again.

      • Thanks. But I assume you can still receive incoming calls on it? I actually need to buy 1 for my brother who is coming from overseas to visit me for 40 days. So if I get this, he can use it for the first 30 days and for the last few days I can call him whenever and if needed.

By the way, I am with Vodafail and my plan doesn't have unlimited calls to Telstra, but this is attractive as I get the bonus 3 GB data. Are there other alternatives?

EDIT: Thanks for the negative vote to my question above (whoever did it). Not everybody understands simple things as easily as some of you geniuses do. That is why we need clarification. It might seem trivial to you, but if I understood it, I wouldn't ask such a silly question.

        • +1

Thanks. But I assume you can still receive incoming calls on it?

Austin, you can receive calls, texts, mms (via Wifi as you will not have data) and anything else a mobile phone does with carrier network access.

You will be able to do all of this for usually 3-6 months, some carriers may vary. This means you can use the phone service without recharging your account balance.

Don't worry about the negative votes, I received 176 once on a Vodafone Deal. How ironic…

Your brother can also recharge once the 30 days are up. $10 will get him unlimited calls and text, and 500MB of data. This credit will expire after 5 days. A $20 recharge will get him unlimited calls and text, plus 1GB of data. This will last 15 days.

          Details here: http://www.boost.com.au/frontend/rates.aspx

        • Thanks Moots. I only asked because its been so long since I used a pre-paid card and when I last used it in my country, it only had a validity of 30 days. You can't even receive incoming calls unless you recharge it again.

I'm not a big fan of any of the 50% off prepaid deals as it's only for the first month.
Great deal if your a tourist but unless you just happen to be about to switch to Boost the saving is minimal if you plan to stick around. It's only a 20% saving after 3 months or 10% saving after 6 months.

  • Advantages with Boost over Aldi;
    1. Full telstra retail network coverage (i regularly use it in remote areas and aboriginal communities across the NT - where telstra is the ONLY provider) Aldi only provides the wholesale network.
    2. Decent download speeds (well, better then optus) - i play WOW tethered through my mobile phone
    3. no "400mb" download limit per day
    4. recharge vouchers at woolworths/coles (think ING paywave and frequent flyers/flybys)

    • maca667 - can you elaborate on the recharge voucher thing please. I'm a boost customer and have flybuys and woolworths rewards card. How much can i save?

      • more a case of getting the recharge instore, with ING direct paywave you get 5% on purchases. plus the points you earn through various flybys/frequent flyers programs (these programs themselves dont offer any discounts).

  • am i able to use this to port from telstra post paid (contract is finishing up)? or do i need to do the port to $2 sim and port back method?

    • I'm guessing it's more of a telco thing than what network the telco uses. Could be wrong though, hope not.
