Star Trek into Darkness DVD $19 at Kmart and BigW

30

Update 2: durd0008 says cheaper again: "$19 at Kmart for the DVD and will also be $19 at Big W starting Thursday", see comment below for link to BigW catalog.

For those who didn't already buy the Blu-ray for $32 in the recent offer, Target have the DVD version for $20:

If you don't have a Target handy, Coles also have it for $23, at the bottom of page 29:

I was looking for this about two weeks ago, and I have seen it on Amazon UK for the equivalent of 24 AUD. It's even cheaper at Target and Coles, and will presumably have the correct region code for Australia. And you can have it now, rather than waiting for delivery!

This deal originally was for the Coles offer, but dqtl74 found it even cheaper at Target. Thanks!

Sorry, I don't think any single movie DVD is now worth over $20…

    • Problem fixed, thanks to dqtl74, below.

    • Deal updated, thanks!

    • that made me chortle. Thanks

$19 at Kmart for the DVD and will also be $19 at Big W starting Thursday

    • Updated, Thanks!

I did check prices on Booko.com.au, but Booko doesn't list department stores. Anyone know of a better search engine for movie and/or music prices?

    • It's also $25 for the Blu-ray at Kmart

$19 for a prehistoric 20th century video format is not a bargain. Seriously who still watches 576i when 4K video is already here.

While Blu-ray is the current best home video standard DVDs are still very popular (hence why they are still being made). Blu has not enjoyed the adoption rate DVD did in the early 2000s and believe it or not many people still buy what you consider an obsolete medium. While I agree this is not so much a bargain as they will mostly be included in 2 for 1 sales, etc… around Christmas, there's no need to bash the format.

    • I only buy DVD if i absolutely have to if the video title is only on DVD like the Farscape Peacekeeper War DVD i just bought. Otherwise it's all blu-ray. Blu-ray is superior to DVD in every way.

      • -1

Not superior in PRICE. This is OzBargain remember?

I can take a DVD to any friend's house to watch it, and be pretty confident they will have a player of some sort. Much less so with blu-ray, so not superior in convenience either.

For me, blu-rays are just more expensive, and not noticably better. I've got a $30 up-scaling DVD player with HDMI output, and it's fine. You can buy your blu-ray, this deal is for those who don't care for blu-ray.

        • I'm sure some one with a 50" television could tell you the blu-ray is noticeably better over dvd. Not to mention dvd has compressed sound whereas blu-ray has full uncompressed highest quality sound.

blu-rays are … not noticably better.

if you close your eyes, BRs look exactly the same as DVDs.

        • If you dont notice the difference between DVD & Bluray then you are either watching your movies on an old CRT TV, a Dick Smith quality LCD or are legally blind. No deal.

lol. He's probably got his video output accidentally set at 576p so of course he wouldn't tell the difference. Yeah any one who knows any thing about blu-ray knows it's considerably better than DVD. I can tell a big difference between upscaled DVD and blu-ray high definition even on my old LG 32" LCD tv.

        • Gee thanks for the personal smear. Why are you even speculating about this, it seems you think this is a forum to discuss the relative benefits of DVDs versus blu-ray. It's not.

As it clearly says in the title, I found a good price for the DVD version. I'm putting the information here for people who are happy with DVDs, and as a service to those who like blu-rays, I even mentioned the recent blu-ray deal.

If I found a cheap price for Toyota cars, would you trash my posts because you like Ferrari, saying "Ferrari is better in every way"? Get off your high horse.

        • 10 years ago, if you bought a movie on VHS you could be confident you could play it just about anywhere as everyone had a VCR back then, but would you really want to ?! The analogy today is exactly the same.

  • Plenty of people were still buying VHS well into the 2000s as well, despite it being obsolete at the time. Remember the old ads that used to go "Out now on DVD and video". Only seems like a few years ago.

    • Every time i pop in my Star Trek blu-rays i'm seeing ads saying "out now on blu-ray high definition". I guess times have changed. Only people who are behind the times like old pensioners or those who can't afford a HD TV with blu-ray player are still using DVD. I mean why would you purposely buy a DVD for use on a HD TV. DVD is just inferior to blu-ray in every way. You won't catch me settling for a DVD when there's a blu-ray title available for that movie for just a few dollars more. Star Trek Into Darkness is one of those examples.

  • I would rather the blu-ray. $29.98 gets you Star Trek Into Darkness blu-ray from JB HI-FI and it also comes with the DVD copy as well. On one of the 20% off sales it would be about $26.

Oh and by the way the Target online store is saying $20 for the Into Darkness DVD not $19

  • For those who want the blu-ray. It's $29 at Target just under $1 less than JB HI-FI.

For anyone in Perth near Nedlands, the Civic Video there has 50% off all DVD/Bluray. They had Into the Darkness for $15 on Bluray! I think it's only for this week.

    • That's a good price, I suggest you post a new deal about it. Be sure to put Nedlands or Perth in the description.

    • Brilliant price. I wonder if that deal is only at that one Civic Video or if it's state wide or nation wide.
