$119 at Centrecom or MSY (and yes, USB2)

    • Below is what the website says.

      Storage

With a USB 2.0 interface and up to 3TB storage capacity, the WD Elements Hard Drive is perfect for backing up important documents and photos so you have them forever.

      • It's good your going to have forever, because at USB 2.0 speeds you going to need forever to transfer 3TB.

        • I dont get people who say this. Yes its slower than 3.0. But i use a 3TB usb 2.0 drive every day.. and its only got 600GB of free space. Its my media drive, i just add little bits and pieces to it over time. These drives are perfectly fine for that….
Not to mention some of us mere mortals dont have usb 3.0 yet.. :(

Model number: WDBAAU0030HBK does indeed correspond to USB2.0

Before anyone asks, the drive in this is most probably permanenty attached to the USB controller which means you can't take it out and use it inside a PC as a SATA drive. I think they first started doing this with their 2.5" elements drives and then the 3.5" drives. Annoying.

If anyone gets one and decides to open up for a looksie, please do let everyone know what you find.

I can confirm that the drive inside is a wd green drive and it is easly detachable like a normal sata cable.

  • I'm thinking of going to JB to ask them to price match Centrecom. Possible?

    • Why don't you get Officeworks to price match minus 5%?

      • OW doesn't carry this model at the moment.

Bare drive (Western Digital Green 3TB Green 64MB SATA 3 WD30EZRX) is $138 at MSY so it's a good price esp as you get a power adapter… Unfortunately, HN have closed their outlet in Brisbane CBD (sigh)
Looks like now is a good time to buy HD's (well, all tech) from a chain before the dollar inflation works its way down to the retail level.

  • got one of these layin around that i bought for $129 months ago from JB…..works well enough use it only once tho. My USB 3.0 3TB is MUCH easier to back up larger files on (steam game backups :) )

These are the ones I got for $69 from Australia post (gloat).
Apparently they run hot enough to make them somewhat less than reliable; just you know. ;-)
I used mine in a pc and they are great.

    • No, Aussie Post sold Seagates.
      No gloat for you.
