Fujifilm FinePix SL300 $170- @ Officeworks

50

This is store pick up only and limited stores in stock. There are some stores around Sydney in stock. Not best reviews but at this price point for 30x zoom I think its a good deal. Good luck grabbing one if your interested.

  • Although you have written it just as it appears on the Officeworks site, I suspect the camera involved is S3100, not S1300? Hubby has S3100 and the specs are the same. It's not a bad camera, and this is an awesome price for it. (assuming it is in fact the same camera)

EDIT, please ignore, has been clarified below by Shreddo

  • +1

It's the sL300. Has lithium Ion battery and a few small differences to the s4000 range. It's supposed to be slightly more expensive than the s4000 range but for some reason it's not more expensive in officeworks…. assuming your store has it in stock.

    • oh ok, that explains why nothing showed up in a google search for a fuji product by that number, it's an L, not a one.

  • Is this a good price/good camera? I've wanted to get into photography but been deterred by the price and not knowing anything about it…. Everyone I know has Canon's, but they seem expensive :|

    • Well, here is a review: http://www.photographyblog.com/reviews/fujifilm_finepix_sl30…

I don't think that I could give a better answer without knowing what sort of photography you were thinking of doing. A modern phone camera can take a good shot… under the right conditions. The main strength of this camera seems to be the zoom range so you can close up photos of tiny things and photos from a distance. Taking a photo from a distance is good for bird watching and can be flattering for portraiture as well. Its main disadvantage is that it almost as large as a DSLR. You won't be leaving it in your pocket all the time.

This camera seems to be alright for the price. It won't have as pleasing bokeh as a DSLR with a nice $300+ prime portrait lens on it. But it will let you take a variety of shots you couldn't take on a phone camera or a cheapo pocket camera.

If you want to think more on whether this is the right camera for you, you may want to have a read of: http://digital-photography-school.com/how-to-buy-a-digital-c…

Regarding image quality, the SL300 displays a few issues which cause concerns. To start off with, white balance displays quite a worrying level of inconsistency - images
vary from too warm to too cold from shot to shot, only occasionally
providing a level of results that prove pleasing. This is slightly
appeased by the fact that the white balance is user-customisable, but
it's an area in which you can usually rely upon the camera to get things
    right.

Exposures also prove relatively unreliable, once again
varying from under and overexposed from shot to shot. Those two issues
aside, when the SL300 gets white balance and exposure right, the results
are generally pleasing. The general level of sharpness is good, while
    colour is also accurately represented.

  • These reviews to me sound like people getting a cheap point n shoot sensor camera (ie this type) confused with far more expensive dslr cameras. Id rather check the reviews on something like Amazon. Com to see what the people in this camera market are thinking.
