Woolworths Whole Roast Chickens $8 Tuesday 27 August Only

180

I was in my local Woolworths (Metropolitan Melbourne, not prepared to give more details) today and noticed a large sign advertising hot roast chicken. $8 per hot chicken. The usual price is $10.50 and the best special I have seen on this recently is $9 per chicken. It is a special deal for today only. The $8 price doesn't apply to the Macro range. My store had plenty of stock. Given the type of large sign outside the store and the yellow stickers on the shelf, it looks like the type of deal that would be available in more than just one Woolworths store.

If you stop by your local Woolies one hour before closing time, they will usually announce that the roast chickens are anywhere to from 50-75% off.

We usually shop fairly late in the evening and find this too!

Why, it's not like your from Frankston is it??? LoL

Also if they've been sitting there for longer than 8 hours they will mark them down by 50% if you ask.

Just letting you know, they shouldn't be there 6 hours after they've been cooked ( the time written on the chicken bag)

        • Yeah… If they've been sitting there for more than 8 hours I'm sure they'd rather throw them out than make $2 and get a lawsuit!

    • Chapel Street is always sold out before it gets to this point.

      • ?? There's no Woolworths on Chapel St, only a Coles. There is however a Safeway close to Chapel St, but not directly on it.

    Competing with KFC is FUTILE

  • Time to stock up and lift

  • $8 for a BBQ Chook is a pretty good price (and Woolies dont have a $60 membership fee)

They've been 8 dollars on a tuesday for the past 3 weeks at least……

Thanks for letting me know. I don't usually go shopping on a Tuesday so this is the first I have seen of the promotion.

      • I think there was a bargain post for this on 13/8. I haven't found it though.
Last week I was surprised when the wife brought one home for $8.

        • I couldn't find it either and it didn't come up when the site asked me to check for duplicates. I just looked at Woolworths deals from 13/8 and couldn't see it. If I'd known about this offer a while ago I could have taken advantage of the deal when taking up EDR targeted offers for Deli goods.

  • I saw the ad on Facebook so i assume it is at all(most?) stores.

  • Hmmmm.. $8 BBQ chook or $10 for 9 pieces of KFC….

It's no contest. KFC wins hands down. Or rather chook down.

  • I love my half chicken meals…. despite the fact they're less than 30 day old Chickensteins…

in my days students ate noodles on their limited budgets…

    • In my day we didn't have limited budgets… Because we never had any money to budget with!

Always felt these chickens were a rip off compared to costco. Costco ones stew gigantic and moist. But you need membership .

    • I have to concur… Costco chooks are great value they were much larger and tend to be more tender an he must than the Coles/woolies. Still $8 from Woolie's still gets my tick off approval… I don't have to travel to get one.

  • I don't think I have another woolies whole roast chicken again, after eating it for a week straight when I was in NZ :D

    Good prices though.

    Cheers.

    • Thanks for sharing a photo of your monkey

I think the next National Census should at least explore the question of which big-supermarket whole roast chicken people prefer - Coles or Woolies.

At least in our household, we will go out of our way to buy a chook from Coles over Woolies. Don't like the texture (very obviously water-injected, like some other types of meat), and we don't particularly care for the seasoning.

I for one am intrigued as to numbers sold by each of the supermarkets.

    • I like the IGA chickens myself. They have flavoured seasoning ones as well with are really nice. The lemon and herb is great.

      • We've bought a few IGA whole chickens here an there. Quite some variation store-to-store, but overall they've been fine. Haven't tried the lemon and herb.

      • +111 IGA Chicken

    • Mum got them from Coles for years before i moved out of home & always advised me to get one from Coles as they were more moist, tender and flavoursome than Woolies ones. I still buy them on and off and have still found this the case - doesn't help the local Woolies (both stores in my area)ones tend to be a bit on the overcooked/dry side.

      • Dependent on the Coles/Woolies I guess

My local Woolies are much more moist and tastier than the dry Coles one
