  • Unlocked?

    • According to the ad on the back page of the mX and from experience, yes.

      • +1

OK because sometime Outright ≠ unlocked.

        • +3

For future reference, JB sell Telstra handsets. And all Telstra phones, with the exception of prepaid and iPhones are unlocked.

        • +1

Hmm, I bought this phone a few months ago and it was unlocked from the box…has Telstra crapware on it though

        • FYI for anyone interested, these come with some Telstra BLoatware, but east enough to deal with.

  • tempted but may be not because of battery capacity + non-removable. >.<

    • +1

the battery is removable (it's not soldered in), but you needed to disassemble (undoing 2 screws) to access it.

  • Is this phone similar to or better than the Samsung Galaxy S3? Which one to buy if same price?

    • +2

I'd buy this. Look them up on GSM Arena and compare.

      S3 has no 4G

      http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4238&idPhone2=…

      • +1

There is a 3G and a 4G version of the S3. I have the 4G. It also has 2GB RAM (versus the 3G's 1)and arguably worse battery performance.

As to which one is better i dunno.

        • Fair enough, didn't realise it could come with 4G.

        • S3 has a battery that is removable. You can change the stock battery and replace it with something like zero lemon.

    • This one has a higher res camera.

  • +4

Good phone. I have one from last $388 deal.

Can be rooted and CM added since its very similar to a Nexus. So you'll never be too far behind the curve Android wise.

Only thing is, this is a TELSTRA model, meaning that it will work best with Telstra networks. It essentially won't work on Optus rural 3G. It has no physical branding and isn't locked, just some network/radio changes.

If you want a LG OG that will work on all networks properly, get the Kogan version.

    • how is the battery life?

      • +2

Just fine, better on CM than stock in my experience. And even better if you make good use of things like Tasker and Juice Defender etc.

4G is what will drain your battery quickly, so either turn it on and off manually when you need it or use something to automate the process.

I can get 2 days of normal use.

I'd get the Kogan one for more network compatibility though.

      • +1

Reasonable. Battery lasts ~14 hours for me with heavy usage. Light usage I get around two days and recharge around 30%.

    • I was thinking of getting this so I can claim the GST back when I fly out next week. Are you saying that this is not worth getting if you are on the Optus network?

      • I'm using mine on Optus. no worries at all, except when I go country.
still get calls and texts in the country through the 2G network, but no 3G, which isn't a huge issue given I'm 99% on my folks WiFi anyway.

        • So 3G's fine in metro areas?

        • yep.. same as any other 3G phone on Optus. (if not slightly better.. I find that mine holds on to signal better than my Galaxy S did.)

  • Keep in mind it only has 32gb of internal memory and no microsd slot from the looks of it

    • +1 for me >.<, personally preferred with microsd slot.

    • -1

      Incorrect. There is MicroSD.

      • Micro SD is only in US models.
There is no MicroSD in the e975/e975k

        • I stand corrected. I guess the one I just bought on ebay is either imported stock or poorly described.

  • +1

I have this phone and confirm it's a winner.

  • will this work with with a vaya sim (which uses optus i believe)?

    • +1

It would, but you'd be missing out on 900mhz band.

  • +1

This deal was posted back in May for the same price which made it a good price. It should really be cheaper by now… nonetheless still a great phone.

    • Exchange rates have fallen, go figure :(

    • It's still almost $500 from a lot of other places.

  • +1

how it compares with nexus 4 performance wise.

    • +2

my wife has nexus 4 and I got LG Optimus G. For me, the LG have better screen colour display. Screen is actually bigger because the home button is on it's own row and not part of the screen. Somehow when I had my iphone 4, I always had signal issue in the bus stop under the building in Myer Brisbane but the LG has pretty good signal and I can now make calls. I do like the software that came with it.

    • +1

      edit: looked around

bigger screen, better camera, expandable memory. i wont need any of these.

for my needs nexus 4 wins.

    • +1

A little slower due to bloat in LG's OS..
If you flash Cyanogenmod, you get better performance than the Nexus from benchmarks I've seen.

  • Does it come with the wireless display adapter?

    • They did in during the last deal. It was in a second box shrink wrapped to the E975 box. The E975 won't let you use wifi and miracast at the same time though, so I'm still trying to think of something interesting to do with it.

      • +1

The E975 won't let you use wifi and miracast at the same time though

Actually, it will…(despite what it says in the manual)
I've used mine to stream Netflix from my phone to the TV.

To answer the OP though, I'm guessing not. That deal was for the first 1000 (or perhaps it was 5000) handsets only.

    • +1

grabed one from City JBHiFi, yes they gave the adapter and with free case / screen film.

      • Thanks Xdzzy,

I read your comment and asked the sales person about it. she is ordering one from a different JB hi-fi store (otherwise I would have just bought the phone without the wireless adapter).

P.S. This is not my life story and I don't have a cat!

      • You must've got the last one! I saw the case earlier this week (was considering at 446).
Was happy enough to buy today, disappointed on missing out on the case/film :)

      • I asked around about the free case and most stores didn't even have any :/

    • My local JB hi-fi doesn't have the wireless adapter but they are happy to order one from a different store.

  • Great phone. Got one from the last JB deal. Glass back shattered from 5cm drop on to flat rock on mine (slid out of pocket while laying down). Glass back still has tiny glass pieces that come off when touching back.

Highly recommend case if purchasing (~$5 for two on ebay).

    • I'd recommend a good protective case for any smart phone for that matter. Gorilla glass is kind of overrated marketing hype.

      • +1

I'd recommend phone manufacturers stop making glass backs, but I doubt they'd listen to me.

      • It looks like it was just a glass back, not gorilla glass. I honestly thought it was fake carbon fibre/plastic on the back. I didn't notice it was glass until it shattered.

    • Can i have url link…Thanks?

      • Last deal: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/101790

Is that what you were after?

Edit: The E973 case will fit. ebay has tons of them. Search "LG e973 case". I bought mine from an Aussie seller for a little more so I didn't have to wait a month.

  • Got my S3 4g for 450 from UM few days ago… Should of got this instead :(
    Oh well

    • No offense to the LG owners out there.. but for $70 more i'd buy a Samsung phone which has more chance of future software updates and fixes than one from LG … they are notorious with lack of on going support (spoken from experience) … it went as far as putting me off android altogether … HTC One brought me back to the dark side (from apple to android) ..loll

      • Thanks for the info. Wasn't a bad choice after all I guess

      • Except of course Android 4.2 came out 10 months ago and flagship devices (S3 & Note 2) from then are still on 4.1.2

      • +1

LG have committed to 4.3 for the Optimus G

Plus who cares what LG do.. The phone is a Nexus 4 with a few extra features..root it and flash Cyanogenmod!

    • Yeah and you also have a micro sd card slot. I'm going to buy a s3 4g to, what is UM ? cause the price is better than kogan ! I'm really interested

  • Just bought one, still comes with the bonus dongle

  • Does this come in white? Might actually buy one since the Note 2 doesnt seem to be going down anymore with the bad exchange rates and all

    • I bought one yesterday (note 2) from optus for $552.

  • Just bought one of these from another source:

Note its a pin style like iphone simcard entry (Since its non removable battery).

    And it's Micro SimCard

  • +2

Kogan sells this for $359 with free shipping, http://www.kogan.com/au/buy/lg-optimus-g-e975-4g-32gb-black/

Is JB selling E975 model such as Kogan?

    • JB sell the e975k
      The Telstra Specific model.

      • Differences?

        • e97s is Optus 3G compatible (2100/900MHz)
          e975k is Telstra 3G compatible (2100/850MHz)

        • So neither will do both Telstra AND Optus 3G and 4G??

        • Correct.

    • Surely local warranty is worth more than $29

      • No Telstra bloat ware and from what someone else's aid, better country reception if on Optus?

  • Hey guys I know its not the best place to post, but what would be the cheapest place to get a samsung galaxy s4 4G 16Gb or 32Gb ? thanks in advance if you have the deal !

  • Will this one work with Telstra NextG? Specifically Aldi 3G?

    • Well, its a Telstra phone…so it'd better work with Telstra NextG!

      • -1

All the info I've found online points to the fact that an E975 only does 900/2100 on 3G.

It might support Telstra on 4G up by the look of it it doesn't do 850 on 3G…

        Am I missing something here?

        • +1

          E975 only does 900/2100 on 3G.

This one is the E975K. Telstra specific model.

  • are there many phones out there with similar specs that support ALL frequencies used by Optus and Telstra in Aust?

    • Most of them..
      S3/S4 (although 4G s3 doesn't)
      Xperia Z
      Nexus 4 (I think)
      HTC One X and One
