  • cool man,

    any recommendations ? :)

  • +1

Any of this stuff actually drinkable?

  • I have tried Hollandia (From Holland), Oetinnger (Germany's #1 sold beer) and Tun Bitter.

My favourite would have to be Hollandia as Oetinnger is quite bitter, and TUN has a vegemite taste to it.

    • I was born and raised in Holland… never heard of hollandia or seen it sold anywhere there.

This is true, I also have a friend from Holland. It must be similar to our fosters. Huge beer overseas but you barely see it over here

It's pretty much Bavaria under a different name.

Bavaria is about the same as VB in my opinion. Read into that what you want.

        • Not sure about that (didn't see it in UK or Europe last year) but Hollandia is Dutch export beer and I like it. Been my choice of retail beer for more about a decade. A clean, crisp lager, MUCH better than Bavaria and infinitely better than Heineken to my palate. Agree that Oetinnger is bitter - okay with food but not so much as a quaffer.

Oh yeh forgot to say - thanks OP. Still have 36 bottles left from the last sale ($32?) but will stock up at $29.

    • I think suggesting that Oettinger is good quality based on it being a Germany's #1 sold beer is a stretch. I live in Germany… the reason it sells more is that it is very cheap - about half the price of decent German beers (which is not much anyway).
Good beer usually sells for between 11€ and 15€ for a case of 20 x 1/2 litre bottles. Oettinger normally sells for about 6€ to 7€, and can sell on promotion for as little as 3€ to 4€.
It is sold pretty much exclusively in the discount supermarket chains - think Aldi (but there's many of them here… Penny, Netto, Norma, Lidl, Aldi).
You can see some beer price comparisons here:

      • I'm actually a big fan of Oettinger. Yes its not the greatest beer in the world but its certainly not the worst.

I think its at least great value for the carton of 500ml cans at Woolies when its around 40.00 when you compare it to Carlton Draught/Dry etc…. and thats not even on sale.

        • I have no argument there - probably comparing apples and apples! At least Oettinger is brewed according to German purity laws (no preservatives or additives).

Both oetinger & hollandia arn't very good, but hollandias better than ottnger.

Personally speaking, Bavaria's better than both, wirh 5% al., but if u can find it (safeway liquor i know of) get the japanese cheapy in silver can from Suntory. Atleast i think suntory, its the largest beer company in japan!!

Yes, i drink too much cheap beer.

  • Tun and Gage are locally brewed Colesworth brands

    Oettinger is ok

  • Are they actually imported? In the past I've read on some Hollandia labels that it's brewed in Australia under licence… Under licence is nearly ALWAYS a let down :( (when compared to the original imported product)

  • I don't mind Oettinger. I've got that rule of no drink without food and for that it works a treat.

Also, on a stinking hot day just about any beer is incredible. Worth stocking up for summer methinks.
