My friend is coming to Australia for a visit and will stay here for 10 days. She asked me if she could buy a data sim for her tablet while staying in Australia. What would you recommend for her? She only needs to check email and occasionally surf the internet. Thanks in advance.

Yatango free trial…? Until 31st July, I apply 2 sim cards for my parents.
Yatango is a nice option. Their free trial is good. I used it when my Brother-in-law visited for 2 weeks. I havent had any calls or credit card charges after the trial.
Does it mean you have to supply your credit card details to get the free sim?
What networks can her tablet see? 850MHz, 900MHz cause that'll potentially eliminate Telstra or Optus.
(if she's American, make sure the device is compatible with any of our networks at all!)
Is it 4G capable and is she going to be in CBD areas to receive 4G signal? She said it's Samsung Note 10.1. I think it is compatible with all carriers in Australia. And I don't think it is a big issue to have 4G or not.
You'd probably want to go Telstra if speed and reliability (sort of) is what you're after. However, if you're looking at it solely from the cost-perspective, then you should probably get the ones recommended in prev posts (Amayasim etc).
Can a mobile phone sim (with mobile data allowance) be put in a 3G tablet like a data sim can? Will there be difference in the setup? I don't have a 3G tablet to test it. If it can, then Yatango free sim is definitely a good option.
Is there any plan that doesn't require a credit card for signing up? Since it is only for 10 days, I really don't want to give out my cc information for getting a sim card for less than a month.
$5/GB($15/3GB) seems about the cheapest you may find, if you can source that w/ 850Mhz then you've identified a positive bargain. May be an idea to boycott Optus till it lowers rates.
optus prepaid, 1gb of 4g data for a $30 recharge
