Looks like the Dell Ultrasharp 27" Premier Colour monitor is on-sale at the moment.

Seems like a good price for a monitor with wide gamut etc.

Until I can afford an Eizo for my photo-editing the Dell monitors will have to do.

Cheers.

  • How good is this for PC/console gaming?

    • Kind of un-necessary. I'm sure it'd be great, but I doubt you'd need to shell out that much for a half decent 27" for gaming.

    • crappy

      EDIT: seems they are up to rev A04 now, so some of the issues may have been addressed

    • Sensational for gaming with outstanding colour. Excellent LED backlighting. On gaming mode there is no noticeable input lag. I think Dell have something like a two week satisfaction guarantee ( you pay return postage perhaps) giving you time to decide.

    Tempted with this one, and the review from cnet.au doesn't take anything away from it: http://www.cnet.com.au/dell-ultrasharp-u2713hm-339341226.htm
    An earlier review from a UK site too: http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/monitors/1298425/dell-u2713h
    I always think of DELL as being overpriced (But they decent quality), but this looks OK at this reduced price.

    Tempting …

    Might hold off and see if I can get a 39" Seiki Digital 4K TV (3840x2160) … set it up as a monitor.

    • As countless others have found, a large (TV-sized) display is not a useful general purpose computer monitor - too distracting. I use this monitor as main work monitor and at 27", I think it's maximum flat size, anything bigger needs to be arc-shaped.
      For computer use, 4K is about quality of rendering, not real-estate. For me, it'd be great to get 4K at 27" - finally being able to see 8pt fonts finely rendered.

  • just got Dell Ultrasharp U2312HM for 30% off

    connect with my laptop by using DP cable, pretty good so far

  • Refurbs available at $599.

      3 year warranty on new ones is a consideration. Had two replaced at 2.5 years. Got the newer model as a replacement.

  • Bought one of these earlier in the year for the same price - haven't had any issues yet, great monitor.

  • If you can get these kinds of Dell monitors at a discount i recommend it - I'm very happy with mine.

    The U2713HM (HM-model) is often on sale at 30% off for $559 - so around $105 cheaper than this H model on special.

    The differences appear to be this more expensive H model has a faster response time (6ms compared to 8ms) and a wider colour gamut of 120% vs 82%.

    They both sound like great monitors, and for a professional art/photo person Id say this H model would be the go.

    But for non-professional home use, is it worth paying $100 more for this H model over the HM?

    I reckon this deal is a great price for anyone looking for this size/res/quality monitor.
    For anyone looking for this size/resolution (as I am) but at a lower price (but consider the quality or other specs may be lower) here are a couple of other options I have looked at.

    KOGAN 27" WQHD (2560x1440) LED IPS Monitor
    $439 (plus delivery, maybe wait for free delivery deal)

    Asus 27" PB278Q 6ms 2560 x 1440 PLS HDMI, DisplayPort, DVI, SPK LED Backlight LCD Monitor
    $ 625 (at MSY)

    Samsung 27" S27A850TSK PLS Professional LED Monitor
    $ 630 (at GoComp)

    The Kogan is the only stand out deal, at such a low price, but it may also be the lower quality of the 4 models so its not an Apples with Apples comparison.
