Maybe so but not a great deal when OW and DSE had Seagate 3tbs for $109/$103 a few days back.
Different company. Many people don't trust Seagate designs to last and advocate WD's.
Cheaper elsewhere like Scorptec ($119 pickup, $131 shipped) any day of the week:

@magoo
that was also a good deal but i think the WD is a lot more superior in quality..
Done Typo fixed
I thought WD and Seagate were pretty much on par
I own both and much prefer the WD
They are for the drives themselves but the previous model of the Seagate Expansion series suffered from the click-of-death. I think this issue has been resolved in the current model though.
"Done (sic) Typo fixed"
Which one? You did not fix this -> "a lot more superior".
The drives themselves were/are fine, it was the case design that used to lead to overheating of either the drive, drive electronics or USB electronics in the case.
"I own both and much prefer the WD"
Interesting. Why?
Also. Are the warranties at all different?
@ brick, I agree!!!
I'd take a WD external over a Seagate anyday!!
(only problem is, this one is USB 2.0 not 3… so deal aint that great)I've got both, and my seagate clicks away like its 100 years old…. and I've only had it about a year :(.
I'd happily pay a tad extra for WD over Seagate, and this is evidenced by the fact that when you look at spare parts pricing, Seagates are always cheaper than WD equivalent drives. People are happy to pay a little more because they believe there is a difference.
Ignore the negs you are getting, they are just Seagate fanbois.
@ A3Australia
I dont know about the externals, but the internal drives in my server are a mix of seagate and WD… and the WD's have 3 years, vs 1 yr for Seagate.

To be clear, A3Australia isn't criticising you stating one is superior to the other. He's pointing out your double comparative.
Seagate is USB 3.0 and 7200rpm, this is USB 2.0 and most likely 5400rpm.
Agree. This is only USB 2.0 and kind of slow for a drive of this size. These days all drives this size should at least be usb 3.0
"more superior"
Really?
IMO this is not a bargain at that price.
Ebay even has this for $126 with free delivery Australia wide! http://groupbuy.ebay.com.au/deal?itemId=330939792436&_trkpar… No bargain
This deal has hit a "brick" wall
A neg already for all the reasons above.
Sorry quite harsh, I know. That's the nature of ozbargain.
Btw, thanks for your contribution.I for one won't be touching WD externals again. Have experienced 3 failed ones now. At the end of the day they are all cheap consumer grade devices.
but but… aren't we consumers? …. and cheap?
:P
Ding dong. Sorry Bing. No deal.
