Referrers can receive $10-$20 credit after a referee's first ride with Uber.

Warning: DO NOT sign up via the https://clients.uber.com/#!/sign-up link on Uber, else your credit might be in USD instead of AUD :(

  • What can I do in an Uber Private ride Vs just a run-of-the-mill Private ride?

    • +2

you can play a harpsichord whilst you are upside down

  • What is Uber btw?

    • +5

Similar to Maxtreem, but not quite as much as Hardcore and almost as good as Pants Shittingly Cray.

  • Thanks OP, that was quick and easy!

    • no worries…

      a +ve vote would be welcomed :)

  • so what is your referral code

    Is it ubermelb ?

  • I ended up getting $20 in USD anyway, even though I used the ubermelb signup link…

    • are you in australia?

did you enter a mobile number with an australian +61 prefix, as well as a 4-digit postcode?

email [email protected] to convert it to aud :)

      • No joy. They won't convert currency. Stuck with 20 USD now :-(

Pretty sure I had all Aussie details selected during sign-up.

        • did you tell them that you used all aussie details during sign-up and were australia at the time (and/or oz ip address)?

i did and was given A$10 credit (it's normally $10 referral and was when i signed up) - they're usually nice/kind about these things :)

btw i'm still stuck with US$10 as well

        • Yeah, the guy noticed that I had another $20 credit in AUD, so he was basically like "too bad, mate". Oh well.

  • tonester, is ubermelb your personal code?

    • [redacted]

      • Has to be, cause you can personalise your code once you have an account.

    • +1

tonester, is ubermelb your personal code?

I just made an account, then went to referral section and personal codes start with uberXXXX (XXXX being ur desired code)

  • +1

Bah, all these codes are just for new users!

Apparently I have 30 singapore dollars in my account though…

  • Great . will use an Uber Taxi with my $20 return flight to the GC heading to the Syd airport

    • +1

It is if you book an Uber Taxi

uberTAXI No flagging or yelling required! Use Uber to request and pay for a taxi, at standard taxi meter rates plus a $2 fee. No credit card surcharge.

The other services are a bit overpriced

UberBLACK : Base Fare $8, Per Kilometre $3.25
UberLux: Base Fare $18, Per Kilometre $4.25

      • The $2 fee is waived at the moment in Sydney apparently.

    • Why did you even neg vote with a question like that?

  • Is there a way to bypass the credit card thing, don't really want to rack up hundreds of dollars of charges accidentally?

    • you can use the app to calculate approx how much the trip would cost

  • +2

ubermelb is his code. feel like i got duped
https://www.uber.com/go/uber[xxxx] insert whatever and you invite people, they get $20 you get $20

    • +4

      Agreed

Considering OP is a Power User, he should know ozbargain guidlines and declare that we are using his affiliate code. And i have nothing against using someones affiliate code as long as they declare it.

      • -2

sorry, i thought that originally writing "receive $10 or $20 referral credit" would be clear enough - obviously not :(

        • Very hard for me to believe this since you wrote and i quote in your wording:

Sign up with promo code ubermelb to receive $20 credit.

when clearly its not a promo code.

        • i wrote promo code as that is the field on the sign-up page :)

    • +2

I thought so at first too. However I believe the URL is always https://www.uber.com/invite/uber[xxxx] and not https://www.uber.com/go/ - not been able to confirm.

      • +1

just tried it on myself on another account using my link https://www.uber.com/go/uber[xxxx] and it showed up as a referral signup on my other account

    • He only gets money if you pay for a ride. :P

    • feel like i got duped

did you not receive $40 credit?

    • .

  • +5

Ive started a Wiki Here for $20 Uber referrals

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/uber_private_driver_20_refe…

Please add your referral links their

    • sweet - nice one

    • Great idea - I added mine: uberBargain !

    • +1

good idea - was thinking about starting a conga thread myself :)

conga being that you sign up using the last (most recent) name before then adding your own to the end of the list

interesting that not everyone listed in the wiki has voted +ve to this deal…

      • interesting that not everyone listed in the wiki has voted +ve to this deal…

Yes, i didn't upvote this because the OP initially didnt declare his affiliation with Uber. He listed his referral code as a promo code. Saying that, he is a Power User and Should be a role model and adhere to OZbargain rules rather than mislead us in using his referral code as a promo code.

        • Actually, looks like everyone including myself missed this in the original deal:

Unlike WinterIsComing, these are cash credit with no expiry date, not ride vouchers, so any leftover is for the next trip - and I should hopefully receive $10 or $20 referral credit after your first ride :)

Probably should have been a bit clearer though to which one was the ref code.

        • -1

I did report it right away as soon as i saw it. But then noticed you asked the OP in the thread if that was his aff link

  • +1

Great - signed up, $40 credit appeared.
I used UberSUV from the Wiki - I'll definitely be using this service (even just for a normal cab) so stand by for credits to appear everywhere :)

  • +1

topmelb works for existing users who have not used the service yet. (Yields $20 for first ride.)

Other code is just OP's standard promo code.

  • Website says topmelb has expired :(

    • +1

      try one of these:

      activemum
      sydneyindesign
      MelbYelper2013

  • Just FYI: I'be previously emailed these guys about removing my account and credit card details. No reply as yet.

    • Maybe try their twitter or Facebook for a quicker response?

  • does the $40 credit still work?
