I can vouch for CMW. Have clocked 256 hours (and counting). Obviously, just youtube it to get a feel for what it is.
Its strength is that the combat mechanics are VERY intricate - which means learning new tricks and moves is really quite satisfying. It's not about shooting people with the quickest reflexes, it's about swinging a sword at the right time in the right way.
Nevertheless its strength is also its weakness in that it has a very steep learning curve and i certainly dont blame new players for quitting early. (In fact, the only reason i kept playing in the beginning was because i had paid full price for it and wanted to get my "money's worth").

I've been playing Natural Selection for over 10 years (orginally started on NS1). Best game I have ever played! It's a mix of FPS and RPG.
NS2 is great game with recent releae of patches have improved fps and response, also new balance mod has improved game play and tech paths stratergies.
Only game I play nightly.
Also it has many mods now too, good one is faded, copy of the hidden mod, where a group of marines play in dark map against a invisible fade.I also been playing since NS1 halflife mod.
as i understand it generally the medieval period falls between the 5th and 15th centuries and people smelled a lot more than they do now
